Yes, an Arduino can mine cryptocurrency, but it is best treated as a learning project—not a way to earn meaningful mining rewards. Duino-Coin is the clearest Arduino-focused option; Bitcoin mining sketches demonstrate hashing but run far too slowly to compete with purpose-built miners.
Which cryptocurrency can an Arduino mine?
Duino-Coin is designed for small boards
Duino-Coin describes itself as a cryptocurrency mineable with Arduino boards and uses its DUCO-S1 algorithm. Its project repository lists Arduino Uno, Nano, Mega and Pro Mini among supported boards: Duino-Coin repository.
The project FAQ says DUCO-S1 uses a non-vectorizable SHA-1 implementation intended to run on a range of low-power devices. It reports that most Uno, Pro Mini and Nano boards using the ATmega328P achieve about 196 H/s and 10 DUCO per day. Those figures are a project-reported 2023 example, not a guaranteed current rate or payout; actual results and coin economics can change. See the Duino-Coin FAQ.

An open-source Arduino Bitcoin Miner project for the Arduino Pro Micro reports about 50 hashes per second with its C implementation and about 150 hashes per second with its AVR assembly version. These are figures reported on the project repository page checked in 2026, not a benchmark of every Pro Micro or a promise of performance: Arduino Bitcoin Miner project.

- START CODING WITH THE ELEGOO UNO R3: Connect the included USB cable, upload your first sketch, and build sensor, motor, display, and automation projects, making it a practical controller for maker desks, classrooms, coding clubs, and robotics labs
- ATMEGA328P CORE FOR EVERYDAY PROJECTS: A 16 MHz clock, 32 KB flash, 14 digital I/O pins with 6 PWM outputs and 6 analog inputs provide a versatile foundation for LEDs, buttons, relays, servos, displays and sensors
- RELIABLE USB PROGRAMMING AND CLEAR WIRING: The ATmega16U2 USB interface supports sketch uploads and serial communication, while clearly labeled headers help simplify connections to jumper wires, shields and modules
- POWER AND EXPAND YOUR WAY: Run the board from USB or a recommended 7-12 V external supply, then add compatible shields and modules for data logging, automation, robotics, test fixtures and custom electronics projects
- BOARD AND USB CABLE INCLUDED: Comes with 1 ELEGOO UNO R3 development board and 1 USB-A to USB-B data cable; breadboard, sensors, shields and power adapter are not included, and younger learners should work with an experienced adult
The project does not support Scrypt: its ATmega32U4 has only 2.5 KB of RAM, while Litecoin’s Scrypt algorithm requires substantially more memory. That limitation illustrates why an Arduino sketch should not be mistaken for a general-purpose mining rig.
How do Arduino mining options compare?
| Option | Board compatibility | Reported speed | Algorithm | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duino-Coin miner | Uno, Nano, Mega and Pro Mini are listed by the project | About 196 H/s and 10 DUCO/day for most ATmega328P Uno, Pro Mini and Nano boards, per the project’s 2023 FAQ; not a guaranteed current result | DUCO-S1 | Low-power experimentation with an Arduino-centered project |
| Arduino Bitcoin Miner | Arduino Pro Micro, according to the project | About 50 hashes/s in C or 150 hashes/s in AVR assembly, as reported by the project repository page checked in 2026 | Bitcoin hashing demonstration; the cited project does not support Scrypt | Learning about hashing and embedded programming, not competitive Bitcoin mining |
The cited project materials do not establish a comparable power draw, connectivity requirement or setup complexity for these options. Check the current firmware and setup instructions for the board you choose rather than assuming that every Arduino model has the same networking or software requirements.

Can you create a mining farm with ESP boards or Arduinos?
You can connect multiple devices for experimentation, but adding boards does not turn them into competitive mining hardware. The Duino-Coin FAQ discusses diminishing returns for additional workers under its Kolka system, so scaling the number of devices should not be assumed to produce a proportional increase in useful results. Consult the project’s current FAQ for the system’s details.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a hobby setup, the more useful measure is what you want to learn: uploading firmware, communicating with a pool, monitoring workers or comparing a simple embedded implementation with a desktop system. For block rewards or serious mining, an Arduino’s reported speeds make it the wrong class of hardware.

How to try a beginner Arduino mining setup
What you need
- An Arduino Uno R3 or compatible Uno board, which is listed as supported by the Duino-Coin project.
- A USB data cable. A charging-only cable will not upload a sketch.
- A computer with Arduino software installed and any basic prototyping accessories your build requires.
Set it up
- Install the Arduino software. Use Arduino’s official documentation for the IDE, hardware and programming references.
- Confirm current Duino-Coin support and instructions. Start with the project repository and follow its current directions for the supported board, miner sketch and any required configuration.
- Connect the Uno with a USB data cable. Select the correct board and port in the Arduino IDE, following the official documentation if you need help identifying them.
- Upload the supported sketch and verify its output. Use the project’s current instructions to configure the miner and check that it connects and reports work as expected.
- Check wallet, pool and firmware details against current project documentation. These instructions can change, so do not rely on old setup screenshots or copied configuration values.
What to expect from an Arduino miner
- Useful learning: It can make hashing, firmware uploads and small-device networking concrete.
- Limited performance: The reported rates are hobby-scale. Arduino Bitcoin hashing is a demonstration, not a realistic path to Bitcoin block rewards.
- Project-specific compatibility: A board supported by one miner or algorithm is not automatically supported by another. Check the project’s current board list and instructions.
- Uncertain earnings: A historical or project-reported DUCO/day figure is not a payout guarantee; rates, network conditions and coin value can change.
