The Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 combines PIR motion and 60 GHz mmWave presence sensing with light, temperature, and humidity readings in a battery-powered device. Its fit depends less on the feature list than on your smart-home setup: Thread requires a Thread-enabled Matter controller, while Zigbee with an Aqara hub enables additional Aqara Home controls. Aqara publishes range and battery-life figures, but the available evidence does not independently verify real-room performance or longevity.
What the FP300 senses
Aqara describes the FP300 as a five-function sensor: PIR motion, mmWave presence, ambient light, temperature, and humidity. The combination is intended to distinguish presence from motion, but the product description alone does not establish how reliably it detects a person sitting still in a particular room.
Aqara specifies a maximum detection range of 6 m and a 120° field of view. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured coverage results; room layout and placement should not be assumed to match the published maximum.

Thread or Zigbee: choose based on your setup
The FP300 supports both protocols, but the setup and available controls differ. Aqara says Thread mode connects through a Thread-enabled Matter controller. In Zigbee mode, an Aqara hub provides Matter compatibility through its bridge function and unlocks additional configuration in Aqara Home.
| Mode | What you need | What Aqara says it enables |
|---|---|---|
| Thread | A Thread-enabled Matter controller | Connection with platforms through Matter; Aqara does not list the additional Aqara Home controls available in Zigbee mode for this setup. |
| Zigbee | An Aqara hub | Matter compatibility through the hub’s bridge functionality and Aqara Home controls such as detection range, absence delay, reporting frequency, and disabling individual sensors. |
If you already have a Thread-enabled Matter controller and want a Matter-based setup, Thread may suit your existing system. If you want the listed Aqara Home configuration options, choose Zigbee with a compatible Aqara hub. Confirm the exact hub, controller, region, and integration requirements for your intended setup; platform compatibility does not mean every feature is exposed the same way everywhere.

- [Installation Method] With the new installation method for the FP2, you can now mount it in the corner of a room. Just attach the included angle mount and switch to the corresponding mode in the app. This setting eliminates dead zones caused by the sensor’s angle and rotates the room layout by 45 degrees, allowing for enhanced zone detection and more automation options.
- [Multi-Person &Zone Positioning] The Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 can simultaneously detect up to 5 people and trigger different scenarios and automation. Moreover, the FP2(2.4GHz Wi-Fi REQUIRED) offers significant advantages over PIR infrared motion sensors by using a single radar sensor to monitor rooms of up to 40 m² (430 sq ft). You can also divide it into up to 30 zones, such as sofa, bed or desktop, etc. and set up individual automations for each zone. It is like having several PIR sensors at the same time with one Presence Sensor FP2. Please note: the FP2 is a wired sensor that should be constantly powered.
- [Sleep monitoring& Fall Detection] You can install FP2 next to the bed and select the sleep monitoring mode to sense the human body's sleep status in real time and generate a sleep health report. Moreover, you also can mount the FP2 on the ceiling and choose the Falling Detection Mode, which will detect and alert you through the app if someone falls. (Note: The FP2 is not a medical device, and can only be used for notification purposes)
- [Multi-Ecosystem Support] The Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 is exposed as multiple sensors to HomeKit, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant. (Note: The device can be added directly to Home Assistant using HomeKit Controller integration) You can integrate the sensor easily without requiring an Aqara hub, which is a great solution for smart home enthusiasts. For a stable connection, ensure the sensor is placed within 6 meters (19 feet) of your router.
- [Ultra-High Precision, Privacy, and Enhanced Features]By implementing millimeter-wave radar technology, the Presence Sensor FP2 provides precise detection of movement without false negatives, even for slight movements. No camera monitoring system maximizes privacy. With IPX5, it can be installed in wet environments. Additionally, it has a built-in light sensor for flexible lighting automations (Only available in Aqara Home, HomeKit, and IFTTT). Automations of FP2 are executed without sending to the cloud and will keep working even if there is no internet connection.
Platform compatibility depends on the integration
Aqara’s US product listing names Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey as compatible platforms. The connection path still matters: Aqara describes Thread integration through a Thread-enabled Matter controller and Zigbee integration through an Aqara hub. Check whether your particular controller or hub supports the functions you need rather than relying on the platform name alone.

What this review can—and cannot—establish
The available product information is manufacturer material, including Aqara’s own FP2-versus-FP300 comparison. It does not establish independent long-term reliability, false-trigger rates, actual battery duration, room-to-room coverage, or controlled comparative performance. In particular, the combination of mmWave and PIR supports Aqara’s stated presence-detection design, but does not independently prove reliable detection of a still person in every room.

Who should consider the FP300?
- It may fit: a setup where combining presence and motion detection with light, temperature, and humidity sensing is useful, and where you already have—or plan to add—the required Thread controller or Aqara Zigbee hub.
- Check carefully first: if your decision depends on still-person detection in a challenging room, proven real-world coverage, or a predictable battery replacement interval. Those outcomes are not independently established by the available evidence.
- Choose Zigbee with an Aqara hub if Aqara Home controls such as detection range, absence delay, reporting frequency, or disabling sensors are important to you.
- Choose Thread if your intended Matter setup includes a Thread-enabled controller and the additional Aqara Home controls are not essential.
Before buying, verify compatibility for the exact regional product, controller or hub, and platform integration you intend to use.
