Apple appears to be preparing another small tablet, but it has not announced an “iPad mini 8.” The concrete clue is a French regulatory listing for a previously unseen Smart Folio model, A3632. That accessory listing fits months of reports about a next-generation iPad mini, while its name, launch date, price and final specifications remain unconfirmed.
What Apple’s website revealed
Apple’s French regulatory website listed Smart Folio model A3632 in a document dated September 8, 2026. 9to5Mac reported the listing on October 15. A3632 does not match an existing Apple product, making it a credible sign that Apple is preparing a new accessory for a device with different physical requirements.
The current sixth- and seventh-generation iPad mini models share a Smart Folio. A new folio model number could therefore indicate a changed camera position, speaker layout, dimensions or another detail that affects case fit. It is still indirect evidence: Apple listed a case, not a tablet announcement.

The regulatory material also lists different environmental figures from the previous folio. The new model contains at least 3% recycled material and at least 6,610 milligrams of rare-earth elements, compared with at least 9% recycled material and 3,947 milligrams of rare-earth elements in the previous version. Those figures come from Apple’s regulatory documentation as reported by 9to5Mac; they do not identify the tablet’s final hardware.

Does this confirm an iPad mini 8?
No. The listing supports the conclusion that Apple has a new iPad mini-related project or accessory in development, but it does not prove that the tablet will be marketed as “iPad mini 8.” Apple has not confirmed the product name, launch date, price, display technology or processor.
The careful description is “a new iPad mini appears to be in preparation.” Calling it an announced iPad mini 8 would go beyond the evidence.

What current reports claim about the hardware
MacRumors reported on October 12, 2026 that code associated with the next-generation iPad mini uses the codenames J510 and J511 and points to an A19 Pro chip. Separate code reporting summarized by MacRumors has pointed to an A20 Pro, so the processor remains unresolved.
| Component or feature | What reports currently suggest | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | A19 Pro in one code report; A20 Pro in another | Neither chip has been confirmed for a new iPad mini |
| Display | OLED is widely rumored; Apple reportedly evaluated panels made by Samsung | Apple has not announced OLED |
| Refresh rate | One report expects 60Hz; Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple tested both 60Hz and 120Hz | The final refresh rate is unknown |
| Bezels | Thinner bezels are reported | No official dimensions or renders have been published |
| Front camera | A landscape-oriented relocation is reported | Unconfirmed |
| Speakers | A redesigned speaker system is reported | Unconfirmed |
| Water resistance | Apple is reportedly working toward better water resistance | No rating or test result is known |
These are competing or incomplete reports, not a final specification sheet. In particular, an OLED panel does not automatically mean a 120Hz display; the refresh-rate question remains separate.

How the rumored model compares with the current iPad mini
Apple’s current iPad mini specification page lists the sixth-generation design with an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, 2266-by-1488 resolution at 326 pixels per inch, and an A17 Pro chip with a six-core CPU, five-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. It has a USB-C connector, supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), and includes a 20W USB-C power adapter.
Apple’s wording qualifies the screen measurement: “The iPad mini display has rounded corners. When measured diagonally as a rectangle, the screen is 8.3 inches. Actual viewable area is less.”

Is an October 2026 launch likely?
MacRumors has summarized Bloomberg reporting that places a possible unveiling in late October 2026, with October 27 suggested as a forecast. That date is not an Apple announcement and should not be treated as a confirmed event. The Smart Folio listing may appear shortly before a product launch, but it could also relate to a product that arrives later or changes before release.
Will your current iPad mini case fit?
Do not assume it will. The shared folio design for the current sixth- and seventh-generation models makes A3632 notable, because a separate case number often reflects a physical change. However, the listing alone cannot show whether the difference is large enough to prevent an older case from fitting, or whether the new folio is simply a revised accessory.

- Keep your existing case if you already own the current iPad mini; nothing in the listing changes its present compatibility.
- If you are buying a case for a rumored new tablet, wait for Apple’s official dimensions and confirmed model identifier.
- Check the case listing for the exact iPad generation rather than relying on a phrase such as “fits all iPad mini models.”
- Do not purchase a replacement Smart Folio based only on the A3632 number; the tablet itself has not been formally identified.
What remains unknown
- Whether Apple will use the name “iPad mini 8.”
- The launch date, availability by region and retail price.
- Whether the final processor is A19 Pro, A20 Pro or another chip.
- Whether the display is OLED and whether it runs at 60Hz or 120Hz.
- Official dimensions, camera placement, speaker design and water-resistance rating.
- Compatibility with current Smart Folio cases and other accessories.
For now, A3632 is the strongest physical clue, while every major tablet specification remains provisional. Buyers who need a small iPad immediately can evaluate the current A17 Pro model on its confirmed specifications; anyone prioritizing OLED, a newer chip or a redesigned enclosure should wait for Apple to identify the device officially.
