Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026, as a shared smart-home screen for touch control, Siri AI, cameras, entertainment and household communication. It arrives more than a decade after HomeKit and after smart displays became an established product category. The timing is undeniably late; whether that lateness matters will depend on setup, accessory compatibility, Siri’s usefulness and real-world reliability—none of which has been independently tested yet.
What Apple HomeView is
HomeView is a screen-based home hub available in two physical formats. The tabletop model has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, a domed speaker base and a stainless-steel hinge for adjusting the viewing angle. Apple lists silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray finishes. The wall-mounted model uses the same display and core features, comes in space gray or silver, and requires a separate mount.
Apple says HomeView can recognize up to six people and personalize each person’s home screen. That makes it different from a conventional single-user smart speaker: household members can receive individualized information while using one shared device.
Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak described the goal this way: “Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.”

Price, preorder and availability
Apple lists a U.S. price of $299 for either HomeView model. Preorders opened October 13 in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Singapore preorders are scheduled to begin October 15 at 9 a.m. Singapore time. Apple says both models will be available in those listed markets on November 13, 2026. South African sales are also scheduled for November 13 through Apple Authorized Resellers.
HomeView will not be sold in the European Union at launch because Siri AI is not available in iOS there. Apple’s launch terms can change, so buyers outside the initial markets should check local availability rather than assume a global release.

Show cameras and recordings
The Home Camera view can livestream up to nine camera feeds. With compatible cameras and a supported iCloud+ subscription, Apple says the system can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, packages and vehicles.
Video summaries and natural-language searches of HomeKit Secure Video recordings require setup from an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and an eligible iCloud+ plan. Camera limits and plan features can vary, so those capabilities should be treated as conditional rather than included without qualification.

Provide household communication and entertainment
Apple positions HomeView as a shared screen for household communication and entertainment as well as automation. The announced feature set combines home controls, camera views, personalized screens and Siri interactions in one fixed location rather than requiring everyone to use a phone.

- Initial setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software.
- Personal-context Siri requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, current software, Siri AI enabled and a supported language.
- Siri AI is beta software in HomeView version 27.2.
- Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily limits; Apple says expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.
- Camera recognition and recording-search features require compatible cameras, setup on an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and an eligible iCloud+ plan.
- Every smart-home device must meet its own Apple Home or Matter requirements; HomeView does not replace the need to purchase compatible accessories.
Why people call it nearly a decade late
HomeKit launched more than a decade before the November 2025 reporting that described Apple’s planned smart-home update. MacRumors characterized the company’s 2026 direction as overdue. In an October 11, 2026 preview, TechCrunch called HomeView Apple’s most serious smart-home bet to date and assessed that HomeKit and HomePod had not gained much traction. That is an attributed assessment, not a published market-share figure.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The “late” label is therefore a timing argument, not a technical specification. Apple entered a category that already includes established smart displays while its own home platform has had years to develop. A late product can still be relevant if it solves a problem better for the people already invested in Apple devices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Could the delay end up not mattering?
Apple is combining several pieces that many households currently assemble separately: a shared dashboard, voice control, camera monitoring, household personalization, communication and entertainment. Support for Apple Home and Matter gives existing Apple households a possible migration path instead of forcing them into a new accessory ecosystem.
The unanswered questions are practical. How quickly will setup discover accessories? Will Matter devices expose useful, consistent controls? How accurate and responsive will Siri AI be, especially while it remains in beta? Will the privacy controls and subscription requirements feel clear? And is a $299 screen, plus a mount where needed and separately purchased accessories, better value than a phone, tablet or another smart display?
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNo independent hands-on review, benchmark, comparative test or validated adoption result is available in the launch information. Those tests—not the calendar—will determine whether HomeView’s late arrival is a disadvantage.
How to decide whether to wait
- Inventory your devices. List the Apple Home, HomeKit and Matter accessories you already own, then verify that each supports the controls you need.
- Choose the installation point. The tabletop model needs a suitable surface; the wall model adds the cost and installation requirements of a compatible mount.
- Check Siri prerequisites. Confirm your language, region, iPhone or iPad model, software versions and Apple Intelligence eligibility before counting on personal-context requests.
- Price the complete setup. Add the $299 HomeView unit, any $59.95, $79.95 or later $129.95 mount, compatible accessories and any eligible iCloud+ plan required for camera features.
- Wait for independent testing if reliability matters. Apple’s announcement confirms capabilities and launch terms, but not real-world performance, interoperability or long-term support.
HomeView versus other approaches
A meaningful comparison should use the same criteria for every option: total purchase and installation cost, compatibility with the household’s existing ecosystem, tabletop versus wall placement, voice-assistant language and region support, camera and subscription requirements, and independent testing. The announced HomeView information establishes Apple’s price and feature claims but does not provide like-for-like competitor pricing or test results.
