For one person covering up to three eligible devices, AppleCare One Individual is the natural starting point: Apple lists it at $19.99 per month, with additional devices at $5.99 each. Family costs $49.99 per month and covers eligible devices for up to six people in the subscriber’s Family Sharing group. It is most compelling when a household’s device count and added theft-and-loss claim allowance justify the flat price.
What’s the difference between Individual and Family?
Apple’s U.S. prices and plan details below were checked October 7, 2026. They can change, and coverage terms depend on the applicable state certificate and purchase date.
| Decision point | Individual | Family |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $19.99 for up to three eligible products | $49.99 for eligible products for up to six Family Sharing members, including the subscriber |
| Devices | Up to three included; each additional eligible product costs $5.99 per month | Apple says eligible current devices and newly purchased eligible devices are automatically added without extra fees |
| Theft-and-loss claims | Three total claims per year; Apple’s U.S. disclosure specifies three every 12 months, and adding devices does not increase the limit | Six total claims per year |
| Useful starting point | One person counting their eligible devices and any add-on fees | Households comparing the flat price against eligible devices across their Family Sharing group |

Count eligible products across the household, then compare the total Individual price with Family’s $49.99 monthly price. At the listed Individual rate, a person covering three products pays $19.99; each additional product adds $5.99. As a simple price comparison, five eligible products on Individual would total $31.95 per month ($19.99 plus two $5.99 add-ons), while six would total $37.94 ($19.99 plus three add-ons). These examples compare listed monthly fees only; they do not establish device eligibility or compare other AppleCare options.

- Count devices and people. Include only eligible products belonging to the subscriber and, for Family, members of the subscriber’s Family Sharing group. Family allows up to six people including the subscriber.
- Check device eligibility. Do not count an older or damaged device until Apple confirms it qualifies.
- Compare the monthly totals. For Individual, start with $19.99 for up to three products and add $5.99 monthly for each additional eligible product. Compare that total with Family’s $49.99 monthly fee.
- Weigh the claim allowance. Individual offers three theft-and-loss claims per year; Family offers six.
- Check the applicable terms. Service fees, deductibles, limits, and exclusions can vary by state and purchase date.
The arithmetic is only a first screen: eligibility, applicable terms, and the higher Family claim allowance can affect which option fits. Apple’s prices and rules are U.S. information checked October 7, 2026; confirm them during enrollment.
What coverage do both tiers include?
Apple says AppleCare One includes AppleCare+ benefits and theft-and-loss coverage for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Its U.S. disclosure lists unlimited accidental-damage incidents, hardware repairs, battery replacement if capacity falls below 80%, 24/7 priority access to Apple Support, and power-surge protection. Theft-and-loss service is subject to the applicable certificate’s fees, deductibles, limits, and exclusions. Read Apple’s U.S. disclosure and terms for the conditions that apply to your purchase.

Requirements for theft-and-loss claims
Find My must be enabled and remain enabled. The device must also stay associated with the AppleCare One plan and the relevant Apple Account throughout the claim process. A plan’s claim allowance does not remove these requirements.
Can you cover devices you already own?
Apple says existing devices may qualify if they are in good condition and four years old or newer; headphones may be one year old or newer. Apple may require a diagnostic check or inspection. Age alone does not guarantee acceptance, so check eligibility in Settings or at an Apple Store before including a device in your cost calculation.
