Update: Apple’s WWDC26 keynote took place on June 8, 2026, so the event is no longer upcoming and the Siri overhaul is no longer merely “expected.” Apple formally introduced Siri AI, its name for the redesigned assistant, as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27.
The announcement describes a much more capable Siri that can understand what is on screen, use relevant personal context, follow up conversationally, search personal information, and complete actions across apps. However, Apple said the consumer version would arrive as a beta later in 2026—not as a fully released feature available to every device.

What Apple announced at WWDC26
WWDC26 ran from June 8 through June 12, with the opening keynote on June 8. Apple used the event to introduce Siri AI alongside the next-generation releases of its operating systems.
Siri AI is intended to move beyond isolated voice commands. Apple says it can combine information from the current screen, the user’s personal data, and the web when answering a request. It can also maintain conversational context, so a follow-up question does not necessarily require repeating the original request.
#1 Best Overall
- Rich, 360-Degree Sound – Delivers deep bass and crisp high frequencies for immersive audio in any room.
- Siri Voice Assistant – Control music, smart home devices, and get information hands-free.
- Seamless Apple Integration – Works effortlessly with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV for a connected experience.
- Compact & Stylish Design – Small but powerful, fits perfectly in any space.
- Privacy & Security – Designed to keep your personal information safe and secure.
Examples shown or described by Apple include:
- Understanding onscreen content and answering questions about it.
- Searching across messages, email, photos, and other personal information.
- Drafting an email based on a conversation or request.
- Editing and sharing photos.
- Adding a recipe to Notes after reading it from onscreen content.
- Using the web to provide more current answers.
These examples describe Apple’s capabilities for Siri AI, not a guarantee that every third-party app supports every cross-app action. The available actions will depend on the operating system, app integrations, language, region, and the feature set in the installed beta or release.
Siri AI is not the official name “Siri 2.0”
Apple calls the redesigned assistant Siri AI. “Siri 2.0,” “Siri chatbot,” and similar phrases may be useful informal descriptions, but they are not Apple’s official product name.
The new system also includes a dedicated Siri app. Apple says the app stores conversation history and uses iCloud to sync conversations across the user’s Apple devices. That makes Siri AI more like a continuing assistant experience rather than a feature that disappears after each voice response.

Apple’s announcement documents several ways to start Siri AI, although the exact interface can vary by device and software build.
On iPhone
- Say “Hey Siri”.
- Press the side button.
- Swipe down from the Dynamic Island to start a conversation.
For visual questions, open the iPhone Camera app and tap the shutter button to start Siri’s visual mode.

On iPad and Mac
Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight on iPad and Mac. Apple also says you can Control-click an image, file, or piece of text and choose Ask Siri from the context menu.
Apple has not published a command-line command for Siri AI. There is no documented terminal syntax such as siri enable, and “Hey Siri” is a voice invocation phrase—not a shell command.
When Siri AI will be available
Developer testing began on June 8, 2026, for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Apple said watchOS 27 support would arrive in a future watchOS 27 beta.
For ordinary users, Apple said Siri AI would be released as a beta later in 2026 for users with a supported device set to English. That means it is inaccurate to describe Siri AI as fully released or available to everyone based on the June announcement alone.
Apple has also warned that features can change and may vary by language, region, local law, and regulatory requirements.

Which devices support Siri AI?
Apple’s listed Apple Intelligence hardware requirements include the following:
| Device category | Supported hardware listed by Apple |
|---|---|
| iPhone | iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max |
| iPad | iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models with M1 or later |
| Mac | MacBook Neo with A18 Pro and Mac models with M1 or later |
| Headset | Apple Vision Pro |
| Apple Watch | Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone nearby |
Installing iOS 27 alone does not make every iPhone compatible. Apple’s list excludes older models, including the standard iPhone 15. Hardware requirements are important because some processing uses on-device components such as the Spotlight index and App Toolbox.
Regional availability is more complicated than “not available in the EU”
Apple’s regional notes do not support a blanket claim that Siri AI is unavailable throughout the European Union.
- Mac and Apple Vision Pro: Users in the EU can access Siri AI when the device is set to a supported language.
- iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch: Availability is initially excluded in the EU.
- China: Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features were unavailable while Apple worked through regulatory requirements.
Availability can also depend on the selected language and the local software release. Apple says its features may vary by language, region, and regulatory requirements.
Privacy and cloud processing
Apple says Siri AI uses a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. The company says Private Cloud Compute requests do not store personal data or make it accessible to Apple or other parties.
Rank #4
- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
That architecture is relevant because Siri AI may use personal context from messages, email, photos, and other data. The assistant’s ability to retrieve useful context does not mean that all processing happens locally; some requests can use Apple’s server-based models.
Voice improvements and usage limits
On supported hardware, Apple says Siri AI provides more expressive voices, adjustable expressiveness and pace, and improved systemwide dictation with better capitalization, punctuation, and formatting.
Apple has not published one universal Settings path for these controls in the WWDC26 announcement. Menu names and locations should therefore be checked against the specific installed operating-system build rather than assumed from an unreleased or early beta interface.
Some Apple Intelligence features, including image generation, have daily usage limits because they use powerful server models. Apple says most iCloud+ subscription plans provide increased access. That does not mean an iCloud+ subscription removes every limit or automatically unlocks Siri AI on unsupported hardware.

For now, the practical questions are whether your hardware is on Apple’s supported list, whether your region and language qualify, and whether your software build includes the relevant beta. Do not rely on an invented Settings path or terminal command. Apple’s June 8 announcement confirms the capabilities and broad rollout plan, but it does not provide a universal activation procedure or promise identical behavior on every supported device.
