Apple’s virtual assistant is Siri, a built-in assistant that lets people make requests and get help with tasks on Apple devices. Apple also uses “Siri AI” for its newer, Apple Intelligence-powered, beta-era feature set. The terms are related, but Siri AI’s capabilities and requirements do not apply to every device that supports Siri.
What is Apple’s virtual assistant?
Siri is Apple’s intelligent assistant, integrated into Apple devices. Users can invoke it to ask questions and request help with tasks. The exact features available depend on the device and its software.

Apple describes Siri AI as a more capable, conversational version of the assistant, powered by Apple Intelligence. Apple’s Craig Federighi characterized it as an assistant intended to help users find information and get things done throughout the day in an Apple Newsroom announcement dated June 8, 2026.

Siri and Siri AI: what is the difference?
Siri is the assistant. Siri AI refers to Apple’s newer Apple Intelligence features and rollout, which Apple describes as beta. They are not two separate competing assistants, and Siri AI’s requirements should not be mistaken for requirements to use Siri generally.

What can Siri AI do?
Apple describes Siri AI as adding capabilities beyond the basic assistant experience. These include:
- Using broad world knowledge and understanding personal context.
- Recognizing what is onscreen and taking actions in apps.
- Providing writing assistance and Visual Intelligence features.
- Supporting a dedicated conversation app.
These are Apple-described capabilities for supported devices and software, not a promise that every feature works on every Siri-capable device. Availability may also depend on language and region.
Which Apple devices support Siri AI?
Apple’s support overview lists the following compatible device families. A compatible model alone is not enough: Siri AI also requires an eligible operating system version, supported language settings, and an eligible region.

Apple’s September 14, 2026 release update described Siri AI as rolling out in beta in English across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish planned for the following month. Apple’s support overview identifies English availability and sets out regional restrictions. Because rollout details can change, check Apple’s current support information for the exact model, software, language, and region before relying on a particular feature.
