Verdict: If your current Apple TV 4K still works, waiting is sensible unless you specifically need hands-free Siri, the new box’s claimed performance gains, AV1 decoding or the Find My-enabled remote. Apple says Siri AI beta also works on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation and later), so the headline software feature does not by itself justify replacing an older box.
What Apple announced
Apple announced the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) on October 13, 2026. Pre-orders opened the same day, with availability scheduled to begin November 13. Moneycontrol reported an Indian price of ₹39,900 on launch day. That price should be treated as reported until Apple’s India store publishes the new model’s official listing and configuration details.
Apple describes the new device as its most immersive home-theater experience yet. The announcement adds a faster A19 chip, a dedicated AV1 decoder and three far-field microphones for hands-free Siri. These are announced specifications and claims; no independent benchmark or hands-on test is established here.

Apple’s India buying page currently shows the previous Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), not the newly announced model. Its listed prices are:

The same page identifies the older box’s A15 Bionic chip and USB-C Siri Remote. Those figures describe the 3rd-generation listing only; they are not confirmed configurations or prices for the 4th generation. The reported ₹39,900 price is therefore being compared with an official store page for an older model, and the difference may change when Apple publishes the new Indian SKU, storage options and connectivity variants.
What is genuinely new
A19 performance
Apple says the A19 delivers up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous generation. “Up to” is important: these are Apple’s comparison figures, not results from an independent test. Faster hardware could matter for demanding games, graphics-heavy interfaces and future tvOS features, but ordinary streaming does not automatically require it.
Dedicated AV1 decoding
The 4th-generation box includes a dedicated AV1 decoder. Apple says this enables efficient, high-quality streaming while using less bandwidth. The practical benefit depends on whether a service supplies AV1 streams, your television supports the relevant picture formats and your network is actually bandwidth-constrained.

Far-field microphones and hands-free Siri
Three built-in far-field microphones allow Siri requests without holding the remote. This is the clearest hardware distinction for people who regularly search, control playback or operate a smart home by voice. Siri AI beta is available in English at launch in India and other named markets, but Apple says it is supported on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later). Older compatible boxes can therefore receive the AI feature without the new microphones.
Find My on the Siri Remote
The new Siri Remote adds Find My support with Precision Finding and an option to play a sound. Apple says the remote is compatible with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K and is sold separately. If losing the remote is your main frustration, this can be a narrower accessory upgrade rather than a reason to replace the streaming box. Indian pricing for the replacement remote was not confirmed.
What the previous Apple TV 4K still does
Apple’s current India listing describes the 3rd-generation model with an A15 Bionic chip, 4K output, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, FaceTime and smart-home features. Apple’s 2022 launch announcement also identified the A15 and HDR10+. For streaming, those capabilities remain a complete specification on paper; the new model’s value is concentrated in convenience, decoding efficiency and headroom rather than a newly announced basic video standard.

Audio setup is optional, not a requirement
Apple’s most immersive surround example pairs the new Apple TV 4K with four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers. That is an optional four-speaker arrangement, not a requirement for watching television or using ordinary surround sound. Buyers without compatible speakers should not add this setup merely to justify the new box.

Should you upgrade now?
Wait if your priority is Siri AI
Apple explicitly extends Siri AI beta support to Apple TV 4K (2nd generation and later). If your existing device is stable and you mainly want the software assistant, waiting avoids paying the reported ₹39,900 for a feature that is not exclusive to the 4th generation.
Upgrade if hands-free control changes how you use the TV
The microphones are built into the new box, so they provide a different interaction model from an older Apple TV paired with the existing remote. Choose the new model if calling Siri from across the room is worth the premium to you.

Upgrade for specific performance or streaming needs
The A19 and AV1 decoder are reasonable reasons to buy when you play demanding games, expect future graphics-heavy tvOS software or use services that deliver AV1 streams. Apple’s performance figures remain claims until independent testing is available.
Consider the remote separately
Because the new remote works with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, owners who primarily want Precision Finding can investigate the standalone remote once Apple publishes Indian availability and price. Replacing the box is not automatically necessary.

- Wait for Apple India’s official 4th-generation page to confirm storage, Ethernet availability, SKU and final price.
- Confirm that your television and receiver support the HDR and audio formats you use.
- Check whether your streaming services actually provide AV1 streams in your region.
- Budget for an HDMI cable if you do not already have one; Apple’s India buying page says HDMI is sold separately and specifies a Dolby Vision-compatible cable for 4K HDR streaming.
- Do not treat the four-HomePod configuration as a standard requirement.
The bottom line on the ₹39,900 decision
The 4th-generation Apple TV 4K is a meaningful feature update, but not an automatic upgrade. Apple’s own compatibility statement removes Siri AI as a reason that every older owner must replace their box. Until the official Indian store listing confirms the reported price and configurations, the prudent choice is to keep a working Apple TV 4K and upgrade only for hands-free microphones, AV1, the claimed A19 gains or a Find My remote.
