To report a hazard in Apple Maps without touching your iPhone, say, “Hey Siri, there’s something in the road.” You can also try, “Hey Siri, report an accident.” Apple lists iOS 14.5 or later as the baseline for incident reporting in Maps on iPhone; the report options depend on your location.

When it is safe to do so, say, “Hey Siri, there’s something in the road,” or “Hey Siri, report an accident.” These are examples Apple provides for reporting incidents in Maps.

Follow any prompt Siri gives. The available report types and the exact options can vary by location, so a particular hazard category may not be offered where you are.

Apple identifies iOS 14.5 or later as the software baseline for incident reporting in Maps on iPhone. Its instructions do not make CarPlay a requirement for using Siri to report an incident.

For the hands-free method, use Siri. The CarPlay screen route is an alternative, but it requires interacting with the display.

What happens after you report
A report does not guarantee an immediate map marker. Apple says it evaluates incoming incident reports and displays markers for other Maps users when confidence in the reports is high. Apple also notes that Maps features are not available in every country or region. For example, its iPhone guidance says mainland China has a Roadwork option instead of a Speed Check option.

Do not handle or look at your phone while driving. Use the voice command only when it is safe and legal to do so, or wait until you are parked. Siri can be used in a car through CarPlay or Siri Eyes Free in some vehicles, but neither is required by Apple’s instructions for the iPhone Siri reporting route. You do not need to buy a mount, receiver, or other accessory just to make a Siri incident report.
