No. Apple’s Personalized Ads setting does not apply to Apple Maps, and Apple does not document a separate user-facing switch for turning Maps ads off. Changing Maps location access is a privacy choice, not a supported ad-removal setting, and it can disable features such as turn-by-turn navigation.

Does turning off Personalized Ads stop Apple Maps ads?

No. Apple says the Personalized Ads setting is not supported on Apple Maps. That control covers ads in the App Store, Apple News, and Stocks; switching it off does not turn off Maps ads and may not reduce the number of ads in those other apps. Apple Support explains the Personalized Ads setting, while Apple’s Maps advertising privacy page explicitly excludes Maps from it.

How does Apple choose ads in Maps?

Apple describes Maps ads as contextual. Signals may include your search terms, the map area you view while searching, device language and type, operating system version, and time of day. If you allow Maps to access your location, Apple says approximate location may also be used to show geographically relevant ads. Apple says it does not use precise location or Maps interaction history to select Maps ads. See Apple’s explanation of privacy on Apple Maps.

Would changing Maps location access remove ads?

Apple does not document turning off location access as a way to remove Maps ads. Location access controls Maps features that rely on your location; Apple warns that disabling it can make features such as turn-by-turn navigation unavailable. Consider this setting only if you want to change location access, not as an ad-off switch. Apple documents the controls and their effects in Location Services and privacy settings.

How can you identify an ad in Apple Maps?

Apple says Maps ads display an “Ad” mark and a distinct place icon. You can tap the mark to review information Apple says was used to serve that ad. Apple also says information about Maps ads you view or tap is tied to a random identifier that rotates multiple times per hour and is not associated with your Apple Account; this is Apple’s description of its privacy practices. Details appear on Apple’s Maps advertising privacy page.
