Apple Invites delivers an event link rather than a traditional calendar attachment. When an invitation seems missing, first verify that the host has iCloud+, copy the event’s current link, and have the guest open that link directly. Then determine whether the event uses Apple Invites or iCloud Calendar, because their delivery, notification, and RSVP settings are different.
Check the basic Apple Invites requirements
Apple Invites is available through the Invites app on iPhone and through iCloud.com. The person creating an event must have an iCloud+ subscription. Guests do not need iCloud+ and do not need an Apple Account to view an invitation or respond. Availability can vary by country or region, so a missing feature or unavailable app may be a regional limitation rather than a delivery failure.
What the host needs
- An iCloud+ subscription associated with the account creating the event.
- Access to Apple Invites on a supported iPhone or through iCloud.com.
- The correct event in the host’s account before sharing a link.
What the guest needs
- A web browser or device that can open the invitation link.
- An email address if the guest is responding on iCloud.com without an Apple Account, because Apple sends a verification code to that address.
- No iCloud+ subscription. An Apple Account is optional for the guest workflow.
First identify which Apple invitation system you are using
Many troubleshooting attempts fail because Apple Invites and iCloud Calendar are treated as the same product. They are separate workflows with different delivery methods.
| Feature | Apple Invites | iCloud Calendar |
|---|---|---|
| How the invitation is delivered | A shareable event link sent by email, text, Messages, or another channel | A calendar invitation generated from a calendar account and delivered according to Calendar settings |
| Where the host starts | Invites app on iPhone or iCloud.com | Calendar app or iCloud Calendar |
| Guest identity | Anyone with a public link can join; a contact-specific link is intended for one guest | The invitee address or account supplied to the calendar invitation |
| RSVP choices | Going, Not Going, or Maybe | Calendar invitation responses handled by the calendar service |
| Approval control | Approve Guests can hold a request in a pending state | No Apple Invites approval queue; behavior depends on calendar accounts and server compatibility |
If the message mentions an event link and a View Invitation button, continue with the Apple Invites steps below. If it is a calendar invitation that should appear in the Calendar app, use the iCloud Calendar section instead.

When an Apple Invites message never arrives
1. Check Apple’s current service status
Open Apple’s System Status page and look for Apple Invites and related iCloud services. An incident there can prevent links, event data, or responses from loading. If a service is degraded, changing local mail or notification settings will not repair the outage; retry after Apple reports recovery.
2. Copy the current invitation link
In the iPhone app, open the event, tap Invite Guests, and copy or share the link again. Send it through a second channel, such as a text message instead of email, or paste it into a message the guest can open. This tests whether the problem is the original delivery channel rather than the event itself.
Use the link currently shown for the event. Do not rely on an old preview, a forwarded message, or a link copied before the event was changed. A public link can be opened by anyone who has it. A contact-specific link is uniquely generated for its intended guest, so verify that it was sent to the correct person and has not been confused with another guest’s link.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. Have the recipient open the link directly
Ask the guest to paste the link into a browser instead of waiting for a push alert or tapping an email preview. If the page opens, the invitation was delivered and the remaining issue is usually the response or approval state. If it does not open, copy the link again and test it in another browser or on another network.

4. Verify the recipient detail
For a contact-specific invitation, check the email address or phone number used for that guest. A typo can send the link to the wrong destination, while a message sent to an inactive address can look like a system failure. Correct the contact information and share a newly copied link.
5. Check for a channel-specific block
Email filtering, carrier filtering, or a blocked sender can hide a message even when the link itself works. Look in spam, junk, blocked-message, and filtered-message folders. If the guest still cannot locate it, use a copied link in another channel rather than repeatedly resending through the same one.
How a guest completes an Apple Invites RSVP
Apple’s documented flow is link based: “When guests receive the link, they can RSVP.” The guest should follow this sequence:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open the host’s current invitation link.
- Select View Invitation.
- Choose Going, Not Going, or Maybe.
- Send the response.
RSVP without an Apple Account
On iCloud.com, a guest who does not have an Apple Account can enter an email address. Apple sends a verification code to that address; entering the code confirms the guest’s identity for the response. The guest should use an inbox they can access immediately and check spam or filtering if the code does not appear.

An Apple Account is therefore not a prerequisite for a guest response. Requiring the guest to create one can send troubleshooting in the wrong direction.
Why an RSVP remains pending
Approve Guests is enabled
If the host turned on Approve Guests, a guest can successfully submit a request while the host still sees that person as pending. Pending means the request is waiting for the host’s decision; it does not necessarily mean the guest’s link or response failed.
The host must open the event’s guest-management controls and approve or deny the request. After approval, the guest can access the event according to the host’s settings. If the request is denied, the guest can be blocked. An unblocked or reinvited guest may need a new invitation link, so do not keep testing a link that is no longer valid for that guest.
Approval is not enabled
When guests are accepted automatically, a response that is not visible immediately is more likely to involve an outdated link, a browser session that has not refreshed, or the guest responding through a different invitation than the one the host is viewing. Have the guest reopen the current link and submit the choice again, then refresh the host’s event view.

Browser and notification checks
Opening the invitation directly is more reliable than waiting for an alert. On a non-Apple PC, iCloud browser notifications require Firefox, Chrome, or Edge, and the browser must be allowed to show notifications for iCloud.com.
When browser alerts do not appear
- Open iCloud.com in Firefox, Chrome, or Edge.
- Check the browser’s site-permission panel and allow notifications for iCloud.com.
- Confirm that the invitation or update was configured for in-app notifications. Apple states that iCloud Calendar browser notifications are sent only when the user has chosen in-app invitations and updates.
- Open the event or invitation link directly even if notifications remain disabled.
A missing alert is not proof that the invitation was never sent. Notification permission controls the alert surface; it does not replace the invitation link.
If the problem is an iCloud Calendar invitation
Use these checks only when the missing item is an iCloud Calendar invitation, not an Apple Invites event.
Enable the calendar account on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Calendar.
- Tap Calendar Accounts.
- Select the relevant account and make sure Calendar is enabled.
If the account is disabled, invitations for that account cannot appear in the expected calendar view.

Confirm the sending address and receiving mode
iCloud Calendar lets users choose which email address invitations are sent from and whether incoming invitations arrive as Calendar notifications or email. Verify the Send From address is the one recipients recognize, then select the receiving mode you actually monitor. A correct invitation sent from an unattended address can look like a delivery failure.
Check the invitee address and server compatibility
Confirm every invitee address character by character. Apple also warns that not every calendar server supports every invitation feature. Exchange or another CalDAV server can therefore change how an invitation, update, or response behaves after it leaves iCloud.
Phone-number invitations for iCloud Calendar are supported only in China and India. Outside those regions, use an email address or the supported calendar-account workflow instead of treating a phone number as a universal option.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Follow this order to isolate the failure without changing unrelated settings:
Quick Recap
- Name the product: decide whether the item is an Apple Invites link or an iCloud Calendar invitation.
- Check service status: look for an Apple Invites or iCloud outage.
- Verify the host requirement: for Apple Invites, confirm the host has iCloud+.
- Generate a fresh test: copy the current Apple Invites link from Invite Guests.
- Change the channel: send that link through a different method than the one that failed.
- Open directly: have the guest paste the link into a browser and select View Invitation.
- Complete the response: choose Going, Not Going, or Maybe and send it; use email verification on iCloud.com if no Apple Account is available.
- Inspect approval: if Approve Guests is active, approve the pending request or reinvite the guest after a denial.
- For Calendar only: enable the account, verify Send From and the receiving mode, and account for Exchange or CalDAV limitations.
- Check alerts last: allow iCloud.com notifications in Firefox, Chrome, or Edge only after confirming that the underlying link or calendar invitation works.
Common symptoms and the most likely next action
| Symptom | Most useful next action |
|---|---|
| The guest received nothing | Copy the current Apple Invites link and send it through a second channel; open it directly. |
| The link opens but no RSVP appears | Use View Invitation, select a response, and send it; check whether the host enabled Approve Guests. |
| The guest has no Apple Account | Use iCloud.com and complete the email verification-code step. |
| The host sees Pending | Review Approve Guests and approve the request; reinvite with a new link if access was denied. |
| A Calendar invitation is missing | Enable the account under Settings > Apps > Calendar > Calendar Accounts and verify Send From and receiving mode. |
| A browser alert never appears | Allow iCloud.com notifications in Firefox, Chrome, or Edge and open the invitation directly. |
How to avoid repeat failures
- After editing an event, copy the current link again instead of forwarding an older message.
- Use a public link when broad access is intended; use contact-specific links when each guest should have an individually generated invitation.
- Tell guests that an Apple Account is optional, but an email address and verification code are needed for the no-account iCloud.com response path.
- If approval is required, explain that a submitted response may remain pending until the host acts.
- For iCloud Calendar, keep the sending address and notification mode aligned with the inbox or app the recipient actually checks.
