Apple Invites separates event creation from attendance. The person hosting an event needs a paid iCloud+ subscription, while invitees can view the invitation and RSVP for free without iCloud+ or an Apple Account. Guests can respond from iCloud.com in a browser, including on Android, using an email address and verification code.
The important limitation is collaboration: guests without an Apple Account can RSVP, but they cannot add items to the event’s shared photo album or music playlist. Hosts also control whether people using a public invitation link join immediately or wait for approval.
What Apple Invites does
Apple Invites is Apple’s event-invitation service for creating, sending and managing gatherings. Apple describes features including customizable invitation backgrounds, RSVP tracking, shared photo albums and shared music playlists. The service is available through an iPhone app and on iCloud.com.

Those two roles have different account requirements. Paying for iCloud+ is a host requirement, not a requirement imposed on everyone who attends.
Do you need iCloud+ to use Apple Invites?
Creating an event requires iCloud+
Apple’s support documentation states: “To create an event, you must have an iCloud+ subscription.” In practical terms, the person setting up the invitation must be signed in with an Apple Account that has iCloud+.
iCloud+ is Apple’s paid iCloud subscription tier. The documentation does not make iCloud+ a requirement for simply opening an invitation, responding to it or attending the event. A person who is invited is not expected to buy the host’s subscription.
Age requirement for hosts
Apple also says children under 13 cannot create an event. The applicable minimum age can vary by country or region, so a child account that is permitted to use other Apple services may still be unable to host an Apple Invites event.
What the subscription requirement means
The subscription requirement applies at event creation. If you are organizing the gathering, check that the Apple Account you plan to use has an active iCloud+ subscription before looking for the event-creation controls. If you are only attending, your guest status does not create an iCloud+ charge.

Can guests RSVP without an Apple Account?
Yes. Apple explicitly says guests do not need iCloud+ or even an Apple Account; attendance is free. A guest without an account can use iCloud.com, enter an email address and type the verification code Apple sends to that address.
This email verification replaces the normal sign-in flow. A guest who already has an Apple Account can sign in on iCloud.com with the email address or phone number associated with that account and its password. Both routes lead to the event invitation, but the account-based route unlocks more participation features.

Can someone join from Android or a browser?
Apple’s introduction guide says attendance is available on the web with or without an Apple Account. Because the guest flow is on iCloud.com rather than restricted to the iPhone app, an Android user can open the invitation in a compatible mobile browser and complete the RSVP there. A desktop browser works the same way.
Browser RSVP without an Apple Account
- Open the invitation link in a browser and choose the option to join or view the event.
- When prompted for sign-in, select the route for a guest without an Apple Account.
- Enter the email address where you can receive mail.
- Retrieve the verification code Apple sends to that address.
- Enter the code in the browser, review the event information and choose an RSVP state.
The verification email must arrive before the browser session can continue. Check spam or junk folders if it is missing, confirm that the address was typed correctly and request a fresh code if the original expires.
What a browser guest can see
The exact event information depends on what the host publishes, but the web invitation is the place to review the event and submit an RSVP. A browser guest does not need to install an Apple app or own Apple hardware to attend.

How Apple Invites links and guest approval work
Unique invitations versus a public link
Hosts can send uniquely generated links to contacts or share a public invitation link. Apple warns that “Anyone with the link can view and join your event.” Treat a public link like an access credential: forwarding it can give another person the ability to see the invitation and request or complete entry, depending on the host’s settings.
Automatic joining
With automatic joining enabled, people who use the public link can join without waiting for the host to review each request. This is convenient for an open gathering or a link distributed to a trusted group, but it provides less control over who enters the guest list.
Approve Guests
The host can turn on Approve Guests. With approval enabled, a person using the public link submits a request rather than joining immediately. The host can then approve or deny that request. Apple also provides an unblock action for a person who was previously blocked.
Apple notes that individually invited contacts can automatically join. Therefore, approval behavior can differ depending on how the person received access: a public-link request may need review, while a contact who received an individual invitation may be admitted directly.
Changing access after sharing
If a link has been forwarded more widely than intended, review the event’s guest-management controls. Use approval for future requests, deny unwanted requests and remove guests who should no longer have access. Because anyone with a public link can view and join under the applicable setting, do not post that link publicly unless the event is meant to be open.

Which RSVP states are available?
Apple lists four RSVP states:
- Going: the guest intends to attend.
- Not Going: the guest declines.
- Maybe: the guest is undecided.
- Not Responded: the invitation has not received an RSVP.
Hosts can use these states to see who has answered and who still needs a response. A host can also remove guests from the event. Removing someone is different from changing that person’s RSVP: it takes the person off the event’s guest list rather than simply recording a decline.
What can guests do without an Apple Account?
Available: view and RSVP
A no-account guest can access the event on iCloud.com after verifying an email address. That guest can submit an RSVP and participate in the basic attendance workflow without creating an Apple Account or purchasing iCloud+.
Unavailable: adding shared content
Apple specifically limits no-account guests from adding items to the shared photo album or music playlist. This is the practical difference between attending and collaborating. Someone may be able to confirm attendance from a browser while still being unable to upload event photos or contribute songs.
When an Apple Account may be worthwhile
If the guest needs to contribute photos or music, an Apple Account may be necessary, subject to the event’s settings and regional availability. If the guest only needs directions, event details and an RSVP, the email-verification route is sufficient.

The labels can vary slightly between the iPhone app and iCloud.com, but the decisions follow the same order.

- Confirm eligibility. Use an Apple Account with an active iCloud+ subscription, and make sure the prospective host meets Apple’s age requirement for the relevant country or region.
- Create the event. Open Apple Invites on iPhone or the service on iCloud.com and start a new event.
- Enter the event details. Add the name, date, time, location or other information guests need. Select a customizable background if desired.
- Choose guest access. Decide whether to send unique invitations to contacts, share a public link, or use both methods.
- Set approval behavior. For a public link, choose automatic joining or enable Approve Guests when you want to review requests.
- Share the invitation. Send individual invitations or distribute the link through the channels appropriate for the event.
- Monitor responses. Use the guest list and RSVP states to identify confirmed attendees, declines, tentative responses and people who have not replied.
- Manage changes. Approve or deny public-link requests, unblock a person when appropriate and remove guests who should no longer be included.
Troubleshooting guest access
The guest is asked to sign in
Look for the no-account guest option on iCloud.com. A guest does not need to create an Apple Account merely to RSVP. If the option is not visible, open the invitation in a current browser, reload the page and follow the web flow rather than trying to use an iPhone-only app route.
The verification code did not arrive
- Confirm the email address shown on the invitation screen.
- Check spam, junk and filtered-mail folders.
- Wait briefly before requesting another code; repeated requests can make older codes unusable.
- Try the newest code in the same browser session.
- If the mailbox blocks automated mail, use a different address that the guest controls.
The guest cannot join immediately
The event may use Approve Guests. In that case, the person using a public link must wait for the host to approve the request. Ask the host to check pending requests and to verify that the request was not denied or blocked.
The guest cannot upload photos or add music
This is expected for a guest without an Apple Account. RSVP access does not include permission to add items to the shared album or playlist. The guest can continue attending and communicating an RSVP, but collaborative contributions require the account-based access Apple supports for those features.

A feature is missing in a particular country
Apple repeatedly cautions that not all Apple Invites features are available in every country or region. A missing control may therefore reflect regional availability rather than a problem with the device, subscription or invitation. Check Apple’s current support documentation for the country or region associated with the account.
Privacy and access decisions for hosts
Use individual invitations when the guest list is known and stable. Use a public link when distribution needs to be simple, but remember that anyone who obtains the link can view and join according to the event’s access setting.
Approval is the safer choice for a public link used in a community, classroom or workplace where the link may be forwarded. Automatic joining is better suited to an open event where reviewing every request would create unnecessary work. Regardless of the setting, periodically review the guest list and remove people who should no longer have access.
