Choose Apple HomeView if your household will regularly use a shared screen for smart-home controls, camera feeds, FaceTime, recipes, timers, calendars and glanceable updates. Choose HomePod mini 2 if you mainly want compact music playback, Siri and voice-based home control at a lower price.

In the United States, Apple lists HomeView at $299, while a 2026 comparison listing puts HomePod mini 2 at a $149 starting price. The practical “HomePod” alternative here is the compact HomePod mini 2: it is an audio-only speaker, not a display or camera hub.

Apple HomeView vs HomePod mini 2 at a glance

These products overlap as Apple Home hubs, but they are designed for different interaction patterns. HomeView is a shared household screen with touch, voice, cameras and entertainment. HomePod mini 2 is a small, voice-first speaker that can control compatible accessories without showing anything on a display.

Display 7-inch Liquid Retina display No display
Camera monitoring Home Camera face can show up to nine feeds simultaneously No camera or camera dashboard
Smart-home control Home app controls, scenes, automations, lights, temperature and door activity Voice control and remote accessory control through the Home app
Audio hardware Two full-range drivers, down-firing woofer, two force-cancelling passive radiators and Spatial Audio on the tabletop model Compact 360-degree audio
Recognized household users Up to six people, with personal content separated by face recognition and paired-device requirements Voice-first household use; no HomeView-style shared screen
United States price $299 $149 starting price listed in a 2026 comparison
Mounting Tabletop or wall-mounted; wall-mounted model is also $299 Small tabletop speaker

The simplest rule is that HomeView earns its extra $150 when people will look at it and touch it. If everyone will mostly say “Hey Siri,” HomePod mini 2 avoids paying for a screen you may not use.

What Apple HomeView actually is

Apple positions HomeView as a central hub for accessories in Apple Home. It combines a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, Siri AI, entertainment, FaceTime, Home app controls, camera monitoring and hands-free automations in one household device. You can place it on a table or install it on a wall.

A shared screen that becomes personal

HomeView is intended to be shared by everyone in the home while still presenting personal information to the right person. Apple says it can recognize up to six people. Face recognition, paired-device requirements and Secure Exclaves in the A18 chip are used to keep personal content separate. Access to personal information depends on a compatible paired iPhone or iPad that has been recently unlocked, as well as Apple’s stated network conditions; recognition alone is not a promise that every feature works for every user in every situation.

Home controls and camera monitoring

The Home app view can show door activity, adjust lights and temperature, and run scenes and automations. HomeView works with HomeKit- and Matter-enabled accessories. Its Home Camera face can stream up to nine video feeds at the same time, making it the substantially better choice when checking several entrances, rooms or outdoor views is a routine task.

Communication and everyday information

The display can present widgets, timers, album artwork and household status. FaceTime gives the screen a communication role that a speaker cannot provide. In a kitchen, the same device can be used for a recipe or timer, then switched to a camera feed or a lighting scene without requiring a spoken command for every change.

Audio hardware

The tabletop HomeView model has two full-range drivers, a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators. Apple also lists Spatial Audio. Those are hardware and feature specifications, not independent measurements of loudness, bass response or room coverage; no comparative laboratory audio results are established here.

What HomePod mini 2 offers

HomePod mini 2 is the compact smart-speaker option in the current launch comparison. It has no display and no camera, so its interface is intentionally voice-first. You ask Siri to control the home, play music or perform supported tasks, while visual management remains available in the Home app on another Apple device.

Voice-based Apple Home control

For routine commands, HomePod mini 2 can be sufficient: switch lights, lock a compatible door, adjust a thermostat, run a scene or control another supported accessory by voice. Remote accessory control is also available through the Home app. The lack of a screen means you cannot glance at a dashboard, inspect a camera grid or tap a control when speaking would be inconvenient.

Compact placement and audio focus

The mini occupies less space than a display hub and is suited to a bedroom, desk, bookshelf or a kitchen corner where the priority is music and Siri. Its compact 360-degree audio design favors flexible placement rather than a visual centerpiece.

How the two hubs differ in daily use

Interaction: touch plus voice versus voice first

HomeView supports three ways to interact: touch the screen, use visual dashboards and speak to Siri. That matters when several people are present, when a command is hard to phrase, or when you need to verify a state before acting. A tap can confirm which light, room or scene you are changing.

HomePod mini 2 removes that visual layer. Voice is fast for familiar commands, but you must remember the accessory or scene name and trust Siri’s spoken response. If a household includes guests, children or people who do not want to learn voice phrasing, HomeView’s visible controls are easier to discover.

Information at a glance

HomeView can keep a household status view visible: widgets, timers, album artwork, camera feeds and accessory states. That turns the hub into an ambient information surface. HomePod mini 2 communicates through audio and requires another screen for visual status, so it cannot replace a wall display or dashboard.

Camera monitoring

HomeView is the clear choice for camera-heavy homes. Apple says its Home Camera face can show up to nine feeds simultaneously. You can inspect several views without opening a phone, which is useful near an entryway or in a room where you supervise children, pets or deliveries.

HomePod mini 2 has no camera and cannot present a feed. It can still be useful alongside cameras if your normal action is a spoken alert or another automation, but you will need an iPhone, iPad or another display to see video.

Music and room presence

Both products are intended to play audio, but their priorities differ. HomeView combines its display and home functions with a larger tabletop speaker system: two full-range drivers, a down-firing woofer, force-cancelling passive radiators and Spatial Audio. HomePod mini 2 is built around compact 360-degree sound and takes up less room.

Without independent measurements, it is not possible to declare one universally better-sounding. Choose HomeView when the shared screen is valuable and its audio hardware is an added benefit; choose HomePod mini 2 when small size and the lower listed price matter more than visual features.

Privacy and multiple users

HomeView’s multiuser design is more explicit. Apple says it recognizes up to six people and uses face recognition, paired-device requirements and Secure Exclaves in the A18 chip to separate personal content. Setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software.

Personalized behavior also has conditions. Apple says the paired iPhone or iPad must be compatible and recently unlocked, and that network requirements apply. Some Apple Intelligence and Siri capabilities vary by region and language, may require an Apple Intelligence-enabled paired device and can be subject to daily usage limits.

Space and installation

HomeView can sit on a tabletop or be wall-mounted. The U.S. price for HomeView (Wall Mounted) is also $299. Mounting hardware is separate: Schneider Home power mounts start at $59.95 for the USB-C Wall Connector and $79.95 for the AC Wired mount.

HomePod mini 2 is designed for a small tabletop footprint. It avoids installation work and leaves wall space available for another display or camera monitor.

Price, availability and regional limits

United States pricing

Apple lists HomeView at $299 in the United States. The HomeView Wall Mounted version is also listed at $299 before any separate power-mount accessory. HomePod mini 2 is listed at a $149 starting price in the 2026 comparison source. These are listed prices, not a claim about temporary discounts, retailer inventory or total installed cost.

Launch timing

Apple announced HomeView pre-orders beginning October 13, 2026, with availability beginning November 13, 2026, in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Singapore pre-orders begin October 15. In South Africa, Apple says availability is through authorized resellers.

European Union availability

Apple says HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union at launch because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU. That makes HomePod mini 2 the practical option of these two for an EU buyer who wants an Apple smart-home speaker, subject to local product availability.

Siri AI language coverage

At launch, Apple says Siri AI is initially available in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Siri and Apple Intelligence features can differ by language and region. Do not assume that a feature shown in one country will be enabled in another.

Which one fits each room and household?

Shared family room

Choose HomeView when people will check household status, browse widgets, start music, use FaceTime or control several accessories from one visible point. The six-person recognition limit is relevant when the room is genuinely shared and personal information must remain separated.

Kitchen

HomeView is the stronger kitchen hub if recipes, timers, camera views, music and hands-free automations are all part of the routine. Its screen lets someone tap a light or thermostat while cooking. HomePod mini 2 is the better value when the kitchen need is mainly music and short voice commands.

Entryway or hallway

HomeView’s camera grid and door-activity view suit an entry point. A glance can show several feeds or a security-related status without finding a phone. HomePod mini 2 is appropriate when the entryway only needs a spoken command, such as running an arrival scene.

Bedroom, desk or bookshelf

HomePod mini 2 usually makes more sense in a small personal space. It delivers Siri and music without dedicating room to a screen. Select HomeView instead when that location is also a monitoring station or when you want visible timers and controls.

Camera-focused household

Buy HomeView if inspecting cameras is central to the purchase. Support for up to nine simultaneous feeds is a capability the audio-only HomePod mini 2 does not have. Remember that the camera experience depends on compatible cameras and network conditions; the hub itself does not turn incompatible cameras into Apple Home devices.

Music- and budget-focused household

Buy HomePod mini 2 when the main requirements are compact 360-degree audio, Siri and voice-based control, and the $149 starting price is more appropriate than HomeView’s $299. You are choosing away the display, camera dashboard, FaceTime and visual controls rather than merely buying a smaller version of HomeView.

Setup requirements and a sensible installation plan

Before buying HomeView

  • Confirm that HomeView is sold in your country and that the Siri AI language support meets your needs.
  • Have a compatible iPhone or iPad ready, updated to the latest software, for setup and multiuser support.
  • List the HomeKit- or Matter-enabled accessories you expect to control, including cameras if video monitoring is a reason to buy.
  • Choose a location with a useful viewing angle for the 7-inch display and reliable network coverage.
  • If wall mounting, budget for a separate compatible power mount in addition to the $299 U.S. device price.

HomeView setup sequence

  1. Place HomeView on its tabletop stand or install the wall-mounted hardware according to the accessory instructions.
  2. Power it on near the iPhone or iPad that will perform setup.
  3. Update the paired iPhone or iPad to the latest software, then follow Apple’s HomeView setup flow to add it to the home.
  4. Add or verify HomeKit- and Matter-enabled accessories, rooms, scenes and automations in the Home app.
  5. Configure the people who should receive personalized content, keeping in mind Apple’s limit of up to six recognized users and the requirement for compatible, recently unlocked paired devices for personal information.
  6. Open the Home Camera face and arrange the feeds you want available for quick inspection; up to nine can be shown simultaneously according to Apple.
  7. Test touch controls, Siri commands, camera loading, FaceTime and any automations from the location where the device will actually be used.

HomePod mini 2 setup sequence

  1. Place HomePod mini 2 where its compact 360-degree audio can be heard without being blocked by furniture.
  2. Use a compatible iPhone or iPad to add the speaker to the Apple Home setup and apply the latest available software.
  3. Assign the speaker to the correct room so commands such as lighting or temperature changes target the intended location.
  4. Verify the names of accessories, scenes and automations; clear names reduce Siri misunderstandings.
  5. Test the core commands you expect to use, such as switching lights, locking a compatible door or adjusting a thermostat.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

Buying HomeView for voice control alone

If every planned task is a short Siri command and nobody will watch cameras, use FaceTime or read a dashboard, HomeView’s defining advantage may sit unused. Compare the $299 price with the $149 HomePod mini 2 listing and pay for the screen only when it solves a real household problem.

Buying HomePod mini 2 for a camera-monitoring role

A speaker cannot display video. If your requirement is a nine-feed camera view, door activity at a glance or touch-based monitoring, HomePod mini 2 cannot meet it by itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming every family member gets automatic personal access

HomeView’s personalization is conditional. Apple cites face recognition for up to six people, but paired-device compatibility, recent unlocking and network conditions also matter. Set expectations before relying on the device for private calendars, messages or other personal content.

Ignoring regional availability

HomeView is not sold in the European Union at launch, and Siri AI begins in specific English-speaking markets. Check the launch territory and language support before ordering, especially if you are buying from outside the United States.

Counting a wall mount as included

The wall-mounted HomeView model is priced at $299 in the United States, but power mounts are separate accessories. The USB-C Wall Connector starts at $59.95 and the AC Wired mount at $79.95, so include the mounting hardware in the installation budget.

Is HomeView worth paying more for?

HomeView is worth the premium when the screen changes how the household operates: people can see camera feeds, tap scenes, check timers, use FaceTime, follow recipes, view widgets and share one central status point. Those are recurring benefits, not cosmetic additions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

HomePod mini 2 is the better value when the home already has phones or tablets for visual tasks and the hub’s job is primarily music, Siri and a few dependable voice commands. Its smaller footprint also makes it easier to place in several rooms without turning each location into a display station.

Bottom-line decision

Buy Apple HomeView for a shared, visual smart-home command center—especially if cameras, touch controls, FaceTime, recipes, timers or multiuser information are central. Buy HomePod mini 2 for compact 360-degree audio, Siri and voice-based Apple Home control at the lower listed price. If you already own a HomePod and are happy with voice commands, HomeView is only an upgrade when you will actively use its screen, camera feeds and shared visual features.
