Choose Apple HomeView if your household already relies on Apple devices and you want a shared screen that personalizes itself for family members. Choose an Amazon Echo Show if you prefer Alexa, want more screen-size choices, or need a large display for a wall. The decision is not a straight model-for-model contest: HomeView is a 7-inch display announced at $299 in the U.S., while Echo Show is a family ranging from 5 to 21 inches. HomeView was announced on October 13, 2026, with availability scheduled to begin November 13; it was not yet available when announced. Prices below are announcement prices, not verified current offers.
At a glance: HomeView versus the Echo Show family
HomeView is Apple’s shared household display, built around Apple Home, Siri, FaceTime, and personalized screens. Amazon’s Echo Show line spans multiple sizes and uses Alexa for visual answers, entertainment, camera feeds, and smart-home controls. The most relevant countertop comparisons are HomeView versus the Echo Show 8 or 11. The Show 15 and 21 are larger wall-mountable alternatives, not direct size equivalents.

|---|---|---|
| Screen and placement | 7-inch display. Available as a tabletop model or a separate wall-mounted model. Apple’s announcement | Amazon lists Show 5, 8, 11, 15, and 21. The 15 and 21 are large-screen, wall-mountable models. Amazon’s device guide and large-display announcement |

These are vendor-announced product details, not results from a hands-on test. Apple had not reached HomeView’s stated availability date on October 13, 2026, and no comparable independent benchmark establishes which display has the more accurate assistant, better sound, or stronger privacy protections.
Which one fits your household?
Pick HomeView if Apple is already the center of the home
HomeView makes the most sense when the people who will use it already have compatible iPhones or iPads and use Apple Home, Siri, FaceTime, or Apple services. Apple says the screen can recognize up to six people and show a personalized experience, including personal content from apps such as Messages and Calendar under specified conditions. That is a meaningful distinction from choosing a screen by size alone: HomeView’s value depends partly on the household having the Apple devices and settings that unlock those personal features.
#1 Best Overall
- New size, more viewing area: The 11“ smart display features a vibrant Full-HD touchscreen with 60% more viewing area versus Echo Show 8 (2025 release), built-in smart home hub, AZ3 Pro chip for powerful performance, and Omnisense technology for highly personalized experiences.
- Content looks and sounds incredible: Watch shows on Prime Video, Netflix, and more on the vibrant Full-HD 11" screen and enjoy room-filling spatial audio, crisper vocals, wider sound stage, and up to 2x bass versus Echo Show 8 (2023 release). With Alexa+, find the name of that song you love and discover new shows based on your preferences.
- Your everyday assistant: The 11" display makes it easy to see recipes and calendars at a glance, find meal inspo, and manage your shopping lists. With Alexa+, find recipes based on foods you love, make reservations, order groceries, and more.
- Simple Smart Home control: Pair and control thousands of devices that work with Alexa without needing a separate smart home hub. Easily view your camera feeds. Manage lights, thermostats, and more using the display or your voice. With Omnisense technology, you can activate routines via temperature, presence, or visual ID detection.
- Crystal-clear video calls: Video calls feel natural on the vibrant 11" screen with a centered, auto-framing camera, 3.3x zoom, and noise reduction technology. Use live view to check in on your family, pets, and more while you're away.
It is not a standalone route into Apple’s personalized experience. Apple requires a compatible iPhone or iPad with the latest software for setup and multiuser support. Personal-context Siri requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, Siri AI enabled, and a supported language. If your home has no compatible Apple device, or you do not want to pair one, the requirements should weigh heavily against HomeView.
Pick an Echo Show if Alexa or screen choice matters more
Echo Show is the more flexible family to shop by physical size. The Show 8 and 11 are the nearer alternatives to a 7-inch countertop display, while the Show 15 and 21 are aimed at household organization and entertainment on a larger screen. Amazon describes Show devices as providing visual Alexa responses, video, security-camera feeds, and photos. The catalog also includes a Show 5 for a smaller display.
Alexa+ is part of Amazon’s announced Show 8 and 11 experience, with household calendars, task organization, Ring summaries, and a shopping widget among the described features. Amazon cautions that features may not be available on every device or in every location. Some Ring features require an additional subscription, so do not assume a display purchase alone includes every Ring capability.

Choose by the actual model, not the Echo Show name
“Echo Show” does not identify a single screen size or installation plan. If you are considering a large household dashboard or entertainment screen, compare the Show 15 or 21 specifically, including their current revisions and wall-installation needs. Amazon also lists Echo Hub, a wall-mounted touch-control display for managing an Alexa smart home; it is a distinct product rather than another Echo Show model. The available sources do not establish that Echo Hub is a substitute for the entertainment and video functions described for Show devices.

Screen size and installation: countertop or wall?
For a kitchen counter or shared surface
HomeView’s 7-inch screen sits on a tabletop speaker base with a tilt hinge. The Show 8 and 11 are the sensible Amazon models to compare for a shared surface, but pick based on the space and viewing distance rather than treating the announced prices as a performance ranking. The cited details do not provide comparable measurements for screen resolution, speaker output, or footprint across the devices.
For a wall-mounted display
Apple sells a distinct wall-mounted HomeView model. Apple names three purpose-built Schneider Home mounts for that version. Its announcement lists U.S. starting prices of $59.95 for USB-C Wall Connector, $79.95 for AC Wired, and $129.95 for PoE Wired, with availability expected in early 2027. These are announced accessory prices and timing, not verified stock or live listings. Confirm which mount and power arrangement suit the intended wall before budgeting.
Amazon describes the Show 15 and 21 as wall-mountable large-screen displays. Their installation is a different proposition from putting a 7-inch screen on a counter: decide whether the display will be viewed across a room, used for family schedules, or mainly used near the kitchen. The cited announcement does not provide current prices for these models, so check a local listing before comparing total cost.
Smart-home control and protocol compatibility
HomeView and Apple Home
Apple says HomeView can control lights, thermostats, locks, and blinds, show camera feeds, and work with Matter accessories. It describes a view of up to nine camera feeds. That number is Apple’s product description, not a guarantee that every camera or every configuration will provide the same features. Confirm that each accessory is compatible with Apple Home and supports the functions you need; a shared protocol name alone does not prove feature parity.
Rank #3
- Alexa can show you more - Echo Show 5 includes a 5.5” display so you can see news and weather at a glance, make video calls, view compatible cameras, stream music and shows, and more.
- Small size, bigger sound – Stream your favorite music, shows, podcasts, and more from providers like Amazon Music, Spotify, and Prime Video—now with deeper bass and clearer vocals. Includes a 5.5" display so you can view shows, song titles, and more at a glance.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart devices like lights and thermostats, even while you're away.
- See more with the built-in camera – Check in on your family, pets, and more using the built-in camera. Drop in on your home when you're out or view the front door from your Echo Show 5 with compatible video doorbells.
- See your photos on display – When not in use, set the background to a rotating slideshow of your favorite photos. Invite family and friends to share photos to your Echo Show. Prime members also get unlimited cloud photo storage.
Echo Show hubs and compatible accessories
Amazon’s announcement specifies built-in Zigbee, Matter, and Thread hub support for the Show 8 and 11. For the Show 15 and 21, Amazon lists Matter controller capability and connectivity including Wi-Fi, Thread, and Zigbee. These are not interchangeable promises: hub, controller, and accessory support depend on the device and product combination. Before buying a smart-home accessory, check its stated compatibility with the particular Echo Show model and the control features you expect.
If your household already has a large collection of devices configured in one ecosystem, that installed base is usually a more useful starting point than protocol checklists. Compare the exact functions you use—such as camera viewing, lock control, or lighting scenes—and verify support for those devices. Neither announcement establishes identical support for every accessory across the two platforms.
Assistants, personalization, and what the announcements establish
Siri AI on HomeView has device and language dependencies
Apple says Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software version 27.2. Personal-context requests require the paired, Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, a supported language, and Siri AI turned on. Apple lists Siri AI on HomeView in English for the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK; Canadian French is planned as a later free update. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, with expanded access planned for a future fee. The announcement does not state the amount of those limits or the fee.

Alexa+ and the larger Show models
Amazon describes Alexa+ features for the new Show 8 and 11, including calendar and task organization, Ring summaries, and a shopping widget. Its announcement does not establish that every feature is available in every location or on every Echo Show. The Show 15 and 21 announcement instead emphasizes large-screen entertainment and organization, including Fire TV apps and family-calendar widgets. Check model-specific feature availability before choosing a larger unit for a particular app or service.
Amazon reported in its November 20, 2024 announcement that customers had created and managed over a billion calendar events with Alexa, and that Show 15 customers watched seven times more video monthly than customers on any other Echo Show device. These are Amazon-reported usage figures, not independent comparisons and not evidence that a particular household will use the display in the same way.

What Apple says about HomeView
Apple says the A18 chip and HomeView use Secure Exclaves to process camera and microphone data separately. It says Siri requests may be processed on-device or with Private Cloud Compute. What Amazon says about Echo Show

The available product information does not provide an equivalent independent assessment of how the two platforms handle camera, microphone, or personal data. Compare the vendors’ privacy controls and policies for your own requirements rather than treating either company’s announcement as proof of a winner.

HomeView launch markets
Apple announced November 13, 2026 availability for the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the UK. Singapore pre-orders were scheduled to begin October 15, and sales in South Africa were to be through authorized resellers. Apple said HomeView would not be for sale in the European Union at launch because Siri AI was then unavailable in iOS there. Those details describe the October 13 announcement; check Apple’s local store for any subsequent change.

How to make the decision
- Start with your existing devices. If setup and multiuser support through a compatible, up-to-date iPhone or iPad is not workable for your household, HomeView is a poor fit. If you already use Alexa, compare specific Echo Show models and their local feature availability.
- Measure the intended location. Decide whether you need a small countertop screen, a larger tabletop option, or a wall display. Compare HomeView’s 7-inch screen with the specific Echo Show size you are considering, not with the entire product family as if it were one device.
- List the tasks you will actually use. For example, check which platform supports the household calendar, video service, camera feeds, and smart-home accessories you care about. Verify compatibility and any Ring or content subscriptions instead of relying on protocol names or broad product claims.
- Check launch and local availability. HomeView’s announced date was November 13, 2026, with country and language differences; Amazon’s listed availability and features also vary by model and location. Confirm current stock and supported features in your market.
- Compare the full installed cost. Use current local prices, and add any required wall mount, power hardware, or subscription. The announced U.S. device prices do not show the final cost for every installation or service combination.
- Set your expectations for evidence. Product announcements describe intended capabilities, not assistant accuracy, sound quality, or independent privacy results. If one of those is decisive, wait for a comparable hands-on evaluation of the exact models you plan to buy.
Verdict by use case
- Apple household, personalized shared display: HomeView is the more natural fit if you have the required Apple devices and want Apple Home, FaceTime, and personal screens.
- Alexa household, countertop display: Compare the Echo Show 8 and 11 by space, current local price, and feature availability; their announcement prices were below HomeView’s announced U.S. price.
- Large wall screen: Look at Echo Show 15 or 21 if a large entertainment and organization display is the priority. Consider HomeView Wall Mounted when Apple integration matters more than screen size.
- Need a device immediately: HomeView’s announced availability was still a month away on October 13, 2026. Check live listings for Echo Show models available in your country rather than assuming every announced device is in stock.
