Apple HomeView is a 7-inch smart-home hub and entertainment display announced on October 13, 2026. It combines Siri, FaceTime, music and video playback, home controls, automations, and camera monitoring in one device. It works with accessories in Apple Home (including HomeKit) and compatible Matter products.
There are two requirements that determine whether HomeView will work for you: initial setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, and a fully personalized experience requires an Apple Account with membership in the shared home in the Home app. Camera streaming, recording, recognition features, and guest privacy are separate questions, explained below.

What Apple HomeView does
HomeView is designed to stay in a shared room as a control point for an Apple smart home. Apple describes it as a place for music, video, FaceTime calls, Siri requests, home monitoring, and automations. Its 7-inch display can show controls and camera feeds while household members interact with Siri or touch controls.
HomeView is not a replacement for the Apple Home app during setup. Apple states that “Apple HomeView setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software.” After setup, the device can still provide useful shared-room functions to people who are not recognized, but personal content and personalized responses depend on the requirements in the multiuser section.

Which smart-home accessories are compatible?
Apple Home and HomeKit accessories
HomeView controls accessories that are supported by Apple Home, including HomeKit devices. Apple lists lights, locks, cameras, thermostats, blinds, and other accessory types as supported categories. When shopping, look for the Works with Apple Home logo or the equivalent compatibility information in the product documentation.
Matter accessories
Compatible Matter devices can also be used in Apple HomeView when they are supported by Apple Home. Matter is intended to let a compatible accessory work across several smart-home platforms while retaining Apple’s pairing privacy controls. Matter support does not mean every Matter product exposes every feature in HomeView; the accessory’s category, firmware, and Apple Home support still determine what controls appear.
| Accessory type | What to verify before buying | Typical HomeView use |
|---|---|---|
| Lights | Works with Apple Home or supported Matter certification | On/off, dimming, scenes, and automations where the accessory exposes them |
| Locks | Apple Home compatibility and any manufacturer security requirements | Lock status and supported lock controls |
| Cameras | Apple Home compatibility; HomeKit Secure Video support for recording features | Live feeds, notifications, recordings, and camera intelligence depending on plan |
| Thermostats | Works with Apple Home or compatible Matter implementation | Temperature and supported mode controls |
| Blinds and shades | Apple Home or Matter support for the specific model | Open, close, position, or scenes when exposed by the accessory |
Compatibility is accessory-specific. A product may connect to Apple Home but expose fewer controls than it provides in its manufacturer’s own app. Check the exact model and region rather than relying on a product family name.

Does HomeView require an iPhone or iPad?
Setup and multiuser support
Yes. Apple requires a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software for HomeView setup and for multiuser support. Apple does not publish a separate HomeView-only setup path that avoids an iPhone or iPad.

Personalized use
A personalized experience also requires an Apple Account and membership in the shared home in the Home app. That account and home membership are what associate supported personal content and settings with a household member.
What visitors can do without personal access
Guests and unrecognized users can still use HomeView for shared-room tasks: they can control accessories, check the weather, set timers, and play music. They do not receive access to personal information merely by standing in front of the device.
How HomeView multiuser recognition works
Apple says HomeView “Recognizes up to six people and delivers a personalized experience for each one.” The six-person figure is a recognition limit, not a statement that only six people may ever belong to the shared home.

For a recognized experience, each person’s paired iPhone or iPad must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, must have been recently unlocked, and must be recognized by HomeView. If any of those conditions is missing, HomeView may treat the person as unrecognized and provide only shared, non-personal controls.

Guest privacy boundary
Unrecognized users can control supported home accessories and use common features without seeing personal information. This separation is useful in a kitchen, living room, rental property, or other shared space where visitors need practical controls but should not reach another person’s private content.
Practical household checklist
- Update each participating iPhone or iPad to the latest software supported by Apple.
- Make sure each person has an Apple Account and is a member of the shared home in the Home app.
- Keep the paired devices on the same Wi-Fi network as HomeView when recognition is needed.
- Unlock the paired device recently before expecting a personalized response.
- Test HomeView with an unrecognized person so everyone understands which guest controls remain available.
How many camera feeds can HomeView show?
The Home Camera face can stream up to nine videos simultaneously. This is a live-view capacity; it does not mean that every connected camera records continuously or that every camera supports Apple’s intelligence features.
Live streaming versus recording
An Apple Home-compatible camera can stream in the Home app. HomeKit Secure Video adds recording and activity notifications. Therefore, a camera that appears in a live view can still lack cloud recordings, recorded-event search, or notifications if it is not compatible with HomeKit Secure Video or if the required iCloud+ plan is not active.
Camera intelligence
Apple says compatible cameras plus an eligible iCloud+ plan can provide recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, packages, and vehicles. The same combination can support video descriptions and natural-language search across HomeKit Secure Video recordings. These AI features require setup with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.
Rank #4
- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Availability of these features can vary by region and language. A compatible camera and sufficient storage do not override regional or language restrictions.
Which iCloud+ plan is needed for cameras?
Apple Support lists the following HomeKit Secure Video camera allowances. The table describes the stated camera limit for each plan, not a price; current prices, billing frequency, and regional taxes are not established in the information available here.
| iCloud+ storage plan | HomeKit Secure Video camera allowance | What it enables |
|---|---|---|
| 50GB | One camera | HomeKit Secure Video recording and supported activity notifications |
| 200GB | Up to five cameras | HomeKit Secure Video recording and supported activity notifications |
| 2TB | Unlimited cameras | HomeKit Secure Video recording and supported activity notifications |
| 6TB | Unlimited cameras | HomeKit Secure Video recording and supported activity notifications |
| 12TB | Unlimited cameras | HomeKit Secure Video recording and supported activity notifications |
Apple notes that camera limits and features can change. “Unlimited” in this table refers to Apple’s stated HomeKit Secure Video allowance for the plan; it does not remove practical limits such as network bandwidth, camera hardware limits, or HomeView’s nine-feed simultaneous display capacity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDo you need iCloud+ just to view a camera?
No iCloud+ requirement is stated for basic live streaming from an Apple Home-compatible camera. iCloud+ becomes relevant when you want HomeKit Secure Video recording, activity notifications, and the associated recognition, descriptions, or natural-language search features. The camera must also support the specific HomeKit Secure Video functions you want.

Setting up HomeView
Apple’s published requirements support this sequence. Exact screens and labels may change with software updates, so use the wording shown on your current iPhone or iPad.
- Prepare a current device. Use a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest available software. This is mandatory for HomeView setup and multiuser support.
- Confirm your Apple identity. Sign in with an Apple Account and confirm that the account belongs to the shared home in the Home app if you want personalized features.
- Audit accessory compatibility. Check every light, lock, camera, thermostat, blind, and other accessory for the Works with Apple Home logo or supported Matter status.
- Add HomeView to the home. Complete the on-screen setup from the current Apple Home workflow on the iPhone or iPad, then verify that the device and accessories are on the intended home network.
- Configure cameras separately. Confirm that each camera is Apple Home-compatible. If you need recording or activity notifications, verify HomeKit Secure Video support and select an eligible iCloud+ tier for the number of cameras you have.
- Prepare recognized household members. Ensure each person has current software, an Apple Account, shared-home membership, the paired device on the same Wi-Fi network, and a recently unlocked device.
- Test guest behavior. Ask an unrecognized person to control a light, check weather, set a timer, and play music. This confirms the shared functions that remain available without personal access.
Common problems and fixes
An accessory does not appear
- Check the exact model’s Works with Apple Home or Matter compatibility rather than assuming that a similar model is supported.
- Update the accessory firmware and the iPhone or iPad used for setup.
- Verify that the accessory was added to the intended shared home, not a different home or account.
- For Matter products, confirm that the product’s specific category and features are supported in Apple Home.
A household member is not personalized
- Confirm that the person is a member of the shared home and is using the paired iPhone or iPad.
- Connect that device to the same Wi-Fi network as HomeView and unlock it recently.
- Check whether HomeView has reached its limit of six recognized people.
- If any condition fails, use the guest experience while restoring the requirements above.
A camera streams but does not record
- Verify that the camera supports HomeKit Secure Video, not only basic Apple Home live viewing.
- Check the iCloud+ tier against the number of cameras: 50GB supports one, 200GB supports up to five, and 2TB, 6TB, or 12TB support unlimited cameras under Apple’s stated allowances.
- Confirm that the iCloud+ account is the one associated with the shared home and that recording is enabled for the camera.
Recognition or natural-language search is missing
- Confirm that the camera is compatible and that recordings are available through HomeKit Secure Video.
- Use an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad for setup.
- Check regional and language availability, because Apple says feature availability varies by both.
You cannot see every camera at once
HomeView can stream up to nine videos simultaneously. If a home has more cameras, use the available camera views or the Home app to switch among them; the nine-feed figure is a display limit, not a maximum number of cameras that may be connected to an eligible iCloud+ plan.
Release timing, regions, and what is not yet specified
Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026. Apple also announced an Apple Home Collection containing cameras, thermostats, and a lock developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The newsroom release says that collection will be available starting in December 2026, with select accessories beginning in early 2027.

Apple has not established exact models, prices, or regional availability for every item in that collection in the information available here. Treat December 2026 and early 2027 as announced timing, not a guarantee that every accessory will launch in every country. Check the model, local availability, and price before purchasing.
HomeView features themselves can vary by region and language. This qualification applies especially to Siri behavior, camera intelligence, recognition, video descriptions, and natural-language search.
How to compare HomeView with another smart display or hub
Use these criteria instead of comparing screen size or brand names alone:
| Comparison axis | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Accessory standards | Does it support Apple Home/HomeKit, Matter, or only a manufacturer-specific platform? |
| Camera capacity | How many live feeds can appear simultaneously? For HomeView, Apple states up to nine. |
| Recording and cloud limits | Is recording included, and what subscription or camera-count limits apply? HomeView uses HomeKit Secure Video allowances tied to iCloud+ tiers. |
| Setup requirements | Is a phone or tablet required for installation, account linking, and household management? HomeView requires a compatible current iPhone or iPad for setup and multiuser support. |
| Recognized users | How many people receive personalized experiences? HomeView recognizes up to six people. |
| Guest privacy | Can visitors control shared functions without opening personal content? HomeView allows accessory controls, weather, timers, and music for guests and unrecognized users. |
| Regional and language support | Are the desired Siri, camera, recognition, and search features available where you live and in your language? |
| Total cost | Include the display, compatible accessories, network equipment, and any recurring cloud plan. Specific HomeView and accessory prices are not stated in the available announcement. |
Bottom line for prospective buyers
HomeView is a sensible fit if your accessories already belong to Apple Home or Matter, you have a current iPhone or iPad for setup, and you want a shared display that combines controls, entertainment, calls, and camera views. Plan separately for camera recording: live viewing, HomeKit Secure Video recording, and camera intelligence have different requirements. Choose the iCloud+ tier from your camera count, remember the nine-feed display limit, and expect up to six personalized users while preserving a restricted guest mode for everyone else.
