Apple HomeView is easiest to choose by location, not specifications: the $299 U.S. tabletop model is for a counter, nightstand, or side table, while the separately sold $299 U.S. wall-mounted model is designed for permanent wall installation. The wall version also needs a compatible Schneider Home mount, so its installed cost is higher. Apple has not announced built-in storage capacity or storage tiers for either model; iCloud+ storage is a separate cloud subscription and cannot be used to infer the device’s internal storage.

This guide is based on Apple’s October 13, 2026 launch announcement. Availability starts November 13 in the initial markets Apple listed, and the capabilities below are Apple’s stated specifications rather than results from independent hands-on testing.

The short buying answer

  1. Choose tabletop if you want a movable display on a kitchen counter, desk, nightstand, or side table. Its screen tilts from a domed speaker base, so you can adjust the viewing angle without installing anything.
  2. Choose wall mounted if the display should stay in one location and sit flush as part of a room’s controls. It is a separate model with audio tuned for on-wall placement, and it requires a separately purchased compatible mount.
  3. Do not choose a storage tier yet. Apple has not disclosed internal storage capacity for either model. Buying more iCloud+ storage gives you cloud space and some HomeKit Secure Video features; it does not add published local storage to HomeView.
  4. Confirm your phone, region, accessories, and power first. Setup and multiuser features require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. The wall model additionally depends on the right wired, USB-C, or later PoE mounting option for your wall.

Apple HomeView models compared

The two devices share the same announced display size and broad feature set. The practical difference is where and how each one is installed.

Choose the form factor by room and installation

Tabletop: the flexible choice

The tabletop model suits homes where the display may move or where opening a wall is undesirable. A kitchen counter can show cameras, timers, music, or a Home control view; a desk can provide a glanceable calendar and messages; and a nightstand can provide a personal display without committing to a fixed location. The tilting screen lets you aim the panel toward a seated or standing position.

Because the speaker base is part of the tabletop design, leave a stable, level surface and enough room around it for the display and power connection. The announcement does not state dimensions, cable length, ingress protection, or a battery mode, so plan on an indoor, powered location rather than assuming it can be carried around like a tablet.

Wall mounted: the installation-first choice

The wall model is intended to remain in one place. It is appropriate beside an entry door for a home status view, in a kitchen for shared controls, or in a hallway where a counter is unavailable. Apple describes its audio as tuned for on-wall placement and says it has the same feature set and 7-inch Liquid Retina display as the tabletop model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not treat the wall version as a tabletop device that happens to include a bracket. The mount is a separate purchase, and your wall must have a suitable power route or network-power plan. Before ordering, identify the mounting surface, locate electrical wiring, confirm whether a qualified installer is needed, and check the current mount compatibility information. Apple has not published every installation dimension in the launch announcement.

When the decision is still unclear

  • Pick tabletop when you rent, rearrange rooms, or want to test the experience before committing to wall work.
  • Pick wall mounted when a fixed, uncluttered control point matters more than portability and you already know how it will be powered.
  • If two rooms need displays, evaluate each location independently; the models are not interchangeable after installation without buying the relevant hardware.

Storage: what is known, and what is not

Apple’s launch announcement does not state a built-in storage capacity, a storage tier, or a difference in storage between the tabletop and wall-mounted models. There is therefore no evidence-based “best capacity” to select at checkout. Do not infer a number from the product’s price, display size, or app support, and do not rely on unverified retailer listings.

Device storage versus iCloud+ storage

iCloud+ is online subscription storage associated with an Apple Account. It is not a specification for HomeView’s internal memory and cannot be used to compare the two hardware models. Apple Support lists iCloud+ plans of 50 GB, 200 GB, 2 TB, 6 TB, and 12 TB; those figures describe cloud tiers, not local HomeView capacity. The plan list is documented at Apple Support’s iCloud+ guide and may vary by country, currency, taxes, or later plan changes.

Storage question What you can conclude
How much internal HomeView storage is included? Not stated by Apple in the October 13 announcement.
Can you choose a HomeView storage tier? No tier choice is identified in the announcement.
What do 50 GB through 12 TB describe? iCloud+ cloud-storage subscriptions, not the device’s internal capacity.
Will more iCloud+ storage expand local HomeView space? There is no published evidence that it does.

When iCloud+ may matter

Some camera capabilities, including video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video footage, require an eligible iCloud+ plan. Apple also says supported camera counts and plan features can vary. Treat iCloud+ as a feature requirement to verify for the specific cameras and recognition functions you intend to use, not as a reason to buy a particular HomeView hardware model.

If storage is your deciding factor, the responsible choice is to wait for an official technical specification or confirm the capacity directly with Apple for your market. Until then, buy based on placement and connectivity, not an invented number.

Wall mounts and the real installed cost

The wall-mounted unit does not include a mount in its announced base price. Apple lists three Schneider Home options, each sold separately:

Mount Announced U.S. price Availability and use
Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector From $59.95 Orderable from October 13, 2026; uses a USB-C wall-power connection.
Power Mount AC Wired From $79.95 Orderable from October 13, 2026; intended for an AC-wired installation.
Power Mount PoE Wired $129.95 Planned for early 2027; availability was not stated as immediate at launch.

These are U.S. starting prices announced by Apple and are separate from the wall-mounted device. “From” means the final amount can depend on the current configuration, region, tax, and installation. Confirm the latest price and fit before purchase at Apple’s announcement page or the seller’s current listing.

Match the mount to your wall

  • Existing USB-C power: the USB-C wall connector may be the least disruptive option when a suitable outlet and cable path are already available.
  • In-wall AC wiring: the AC-wired mount is the relevant option when power is being routed inside the wall. Electrical work may require a qualified professional and must follow local rules.
  • Power over Ethernet: the PoE mount is planned for early 2027, so it is not an immediate launch-day solution. It may suit a home with structured Ethernet and a compatible PoE network, but confirm requirements when it becomes orderable.

Do not buy a mount solely because its connector is familiar. Verify the wall material, stud or anchor locations, cable route, outlet position, network equipment if applicable, and the mount’s compatibility with the exact HomeView model.

What HomeView can do

Apple positions HomeView as a shared household display rather than a simple smart speaker. Its stated functions include smart-home control, camera viewing, automations, FaceTime, Messages, music, podcasts, Apple TV, and compatible third-party audio and video apps. Apple News is listed for Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. App support, content, and subscriptions vary by region and service.

Camera view

The Home Camera face can show up to nine video feeds at once. That is a vendor-stated maximum, not an independent test of simultaneous streams, network performance, or image quality. Your practical result will depend on the cameras, network, Home setup, and any service limits.

Personalized home screens

HomeView can recognize up to six people and personalize each person’s Home Screen. Apple says personal information in apps such as Messages and Calendar appears only when the enrolled user is recognized, their paired iPhone or iPad is present, and that device has been recently unlocked. These are Apple’s privacy and feature claims; they are not an independent security audit.

Compatibility and setup requirements

Before ordering, make sure your existing Apple equipment and accessories meet the requirements Apple states for HomeView.

  • Setup device: a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software is required for setup and multiuser support.
  • Home accessories: HomeView works with Apple Home Collection products and other Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories, but functions differ by accessory.
  • NFC pairing: Apple says Home Collection accessories require an iPhone running the latest operating system for NFC pairing.
  • Camera intelligence: certain recognition and video-description features require a supported iCloud+ plan and setup through an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.
  • Apps and content: some apps require a paired compatible iPhone nearby, and some media requires a subscription.

A practical setup sequence

  1. Update the setup device. Install the latest available software on the compatible iPhone or iPad you will use for configuration. If several household members need personalized access, update their devices too.
  2. Choose the location. For tabletop, select a stable surface with a useful viewing angle and nearby power. For wall mounted, mark the intended height and viewing direction before buying the mount.
  3. Resolve power and network details. Confirm the outlet, cable route, Wi-Fi coverage, and—if considering PoE—the network equipment and timing of that mount’s availability.
  4. Prepare Home accessories. Check each camera, thermostat, lock, Matter device, or other accessory for its required software, hub, subscription, and regional support. “Works with Apple Home” does not mean every feature is identical.
  5. Install or place HomeView. Put the tabletop unit on its surface, or install the wall model with the compatible mount according to the mount’s instructions and local electrical requirements.
  6. Complete Apple Home setup. Use the updated iPhone or iPad to add HomeView, assign it to the correct home and room, and apply the latest available firmware or software when prompted.
  7. Enroll household members. Add the people who should receive personalized Home Screens, then test recognition with each person’s paired device present and recently unlocked.
  8. Test the features you actually need. Open camera feeds, run an automation, place a FaceTime call, play media, and check Messages or Calendar privacy before relying on the display for daily routines.

Smart-home accessories to plan for

Apple says a new Home Collection with cameras, thermostats, and a lock is being developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The collection begins in December, with select accessories planned for early 2027. That schedule is separate from HomeView’s own launch, so do not assume every announced accessory will be available when the display ships.

For third-party products, check the exact Matter or Works with Apple Home function you need. A device may support basic control while omitting advanced features such as secure video, intelligent recognition, energy history, or remote access. Apple explicitly says features vary by accessory.

Availability, countries, and language limits

Apple began preorders on October 13, 2026 in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, with availability stated for November 13. Singapore preorders start October 15. South African availability starts November 13 through Apple Authorized Resellers.

Apple says HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI is not currently available in iOS there. Do not assume that importing a unit will provide the same software, warranty, language, or accessory support as a local purchase.

Apple announces Siri AI in English for the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Canadian French support is planned through a software update. Availability of apps, Apple News, camera functions, and smart-home accessories can still differ within those markets.

Buying scenarios

Kitchen counter in a rental

Choose the tabletop model. It avoids permanent work, can move when the counter is needed for cooking, and lets you evaluate camera and automation use before considering a fixed display. Use the latest-compatible iPhone or iPad for setup and check whether your cameras need iCloud+ for the functions you want.

Entryway in a newly renovated home

Choose the wall-mounted model if the location is permanent and the electrical plan supports it. Select the mount only after confirming the wall construction, power route, and installation method. If the project depends on PoE, account for the announced early-2027 timing rather than planning around immediate availability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Family display with private messages

Either form factor can serve a shared household, but the value depends on enrolling users and keeping their paired iPhones or iPads available and recently unlocked when personal content is needed. Test recognition and privacy with every intended user before placing the display in a busy common area.

Camera-heavy home

Start with the cameras’ HomeKit Secure Video requirements, supported camera count, and iCloud+ feature eligibility. HomeView’s ability to show up to nine feeds does not remove limits imposed by the camera models, network, region, or cloud plan.

Pre-order checklist

  • Confirm that your country and language are supported and that the stated availability date applies to your market.
  • Choose tabletop or wall mounted based on the physical location, not on an assumed storage difference.
  • For wall mounting, select USB-C, AC wired, or—when available—PoE only after checking power, network, wall, and installation requirements.
  • Budget for the separate mount and any professional electrical or wall work.
  • Do not pay extra for a supposed HomeView storage tier unless Apple publishes one.
  • Separate iCloud+ cloud storage from local device storage when evaluating camera features.
  • Update the compatible iPhone or iPad that will perform setup and multiuser enrollment.
  • Verify each camera, Matter device, thermostat, lock, and media app for its own compatibility, subscription, and regional limits.
  • Check current local pricing, taxes, warranty terms, and accessory availability before completing the order.

What remains unresolved at launch

Apple’s announcement leaves several details open: internal storage capacity, whether either model will later receive storage options, physical dimensions, networking specifications, detailed installation measurements, and the complete list of regional app and accessory limitations. Those omissions do not prevent a placement decision, but they do prevent an evidence-based storage recommendation or a full installation plan.

If you need exact storage, professional mounting dimensions, a specific camera workflow, or a country-specific price, wait for the relevant technical documentation or confirm the detail with Apple before paying. The launch announcement is sufficient to choose the form factor and identify the accessory categories; it is not a substitute for the final specification sheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

Buy the tabletop HomeView for a flexible, no-wall-work display; buy the wall-mounted model for a dedicated location and include the compatible mount in your budget. Treat storage as an unanswered hardware specification, not a shopping option, and evaluate iCloud+ separately for cloud-based camera features. Your final checklist is location, power, compatible iPhone or iPad, accessory support, regional availability, and the current total price.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
