Apple COO Sabih Khan reportedly visited Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory on October 11, as production of Apple’s first foldable iPhone was being scaled ahead of pre-orders opening October 16. Apple has confirmed the order and availability dates, but the factory visit does not establish how many iPhone Duo units will be available or whether launch demand will outstrip supply.
What happened at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant
The Paper reported that Khan visited Foxconn Technology Park in Zhengzhou, Henan, on October 11, 2026. He toured work connected with the iPhone Duo production line, iPhone 18 Pro rear camera modules, exterior-frame anodizing and chip-level sputtering. Foxconn rotating CEO and business group general manager Jiang Jiheng accompanied him, according to the report. The Paper’s report said Khan described production as expanding while maintaining Apple’s usual quality standards.
Jiemian News separately reported that the Zhengzhou facility uses a specialized automated process to finish the iPhone Duo’s hinge area. In its account, equipment scans the hinge geometry with a laser, a machine-learning algorithm generates a fill plan, and the system applies as many as 25 layers of photosensitive polymer before scanning the surface again. This is reporting about a factory process, not a process specification published by Apple. Jiemian News also attributed to Khan a remark about the difficulty of combining factory scale and quality with complex product requirements. Its English rendering of the statement was translated from Chinese, not published as an official Apple transcript.
When iPhone Duo pre-orders and sales begin
Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, identifying it as its first foldable iPhone. The company says pre-orders begin Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in more than 70 countries and regions. Initial availability begins Friday, October 23, with additional countries and regions following on October 30. Check Apple’s country-specific schedule for local ordering and availability details. Apple’s launch announcement is the source for these dates.

What Apple has announced about the foldable
Apple lists a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, an A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery architecture for iPhone Duo. These are manufacturer-announced specifications, not independent test findings. Apple also announced two device-specific accessories: an iPhone Duo Case for $79 U.S. and an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand for $129 U.S. Both are scheduled to be orderable beginning October 16; that announcement does not verify retailer inventory or third-party case compatibility.
Does the visit mean iPhone Duo will be in short supply?
No reliable output target, yield rate, production volume, capacity figure or launch-inventory forecast has been reported in the material available about the visit. Khan’s reported comments indicate that production was scaling, but they do not quantify the ramp or guarantee delivery timing. The visit therefore cannot establish whether launch stock will meet demand.

There were earlier production concerns in reports summarized by MacRumors on September 29. The article relayed an attributed claim that final-assembly yields were slightly above 60% as of September 17, with production settings being adjusted. That figure is an indirect supply-chain claim, not a number confirmed by Apple. The October 11 visit does not show that the alleged yield issue was resolved. MacRumors’ summary should be read with that limitation in mind.

If you plan to order at launch, verify the date and time for your country or region, and compare the available configurations, delivery estimates and total price when Apple opens ordering. If choosing an accessory, confirm that it is specifically listed for iPhone Duo: Apple has announced its own case and folio, but the announcement alone does not establish the fit of third-party products or current stock at other sellers.
