To use Apple Calendar on iPhone, add an event with its date and time, choose the calendar where it belongs, and tap Done. For reliable reminders, check both the event’s alert and iPhone’s Calendar notification settings. The steps below follow Apple’s iOS 27 User Guide; labels and availability can vary by iOS version, account provider, language, and region.
How to add or edit an event
Add an event

Open Calendar. In Day view, tap Add.

Enter a title and set the start and end dates and times. Add a location or video-call link if relevant.

Swipe up to reveal more fields, including invitees, travel time, and attachments.

Tap Done to save.
To attach a file, open the event, tap Edit, and add the attachment from Files. An event address can help Calendar use Maps information about location, traffic, and transit when estimating when to leave. Siri may suggest events it detects in Mail, Messages, and Safari; manage relevant suggestions in Settings > Apps > Calendar > Siri. Apple Intelligence features depend on device compatibility, language, and region.

Edit, move, copy, or delete

Tap an event, then tap Edit to change its details. To set an alert, choose Alert, select a reminder time, and save.

In Day or Week view, touch and hold an event to drag it to another time. Adjust its handles to change its duration.

Copy an event and paste it at another date and time when you need a duplicate.

In Day view, open an event and choose Delete Event to remove it.
How to organize events with multiple calendars
Separate work, family, and personal events into distinct calendars, then show only the calendars you need. Tap Calendars to add a named iCloud calendar, subscribe to an external read-only .ics calendar, or add a holiday calendar. You can also toggle which calendars appear, including birthday and holiday calendars.
To move an event, open it, tap Edit, choose Calendar, and select the destination. To choose where new events go by default, open Settings > Apps > Calendar > Default Calendar. You can set calendar colors, but some account providers, including Google, control colors on their servers.
Calendar settings also include default alert times for birthdays, events, and all-day events; Time to Leave; default event duration; location suggestions; week start; week numbers; and alternate calendars.
How to set event alerts and fix missing notifications
An event’s alert and iPhone’s system notification permission are separate controls. Setting an alert on the event does not by itself ensure that a banner or sound will appear.

Open Settings > Notifications > Calendar and allow notifications.

Choose how Calendar notifications appear, such as on the Lock Screen, in Notification Center, or as banners, and set sound if desired.

Check the event itself: open it, tap Edit, select Alert, choose when to be reminded, and save.

If you want a consistent reminder for a category of events, review Calendar’s default alert settings rather than changing each event individually.

Calendar also has customized notification controls for event notices and invitee responses. The precise presentation can depend on your notification settings.

Sync with iCloud

Open Settings and tap your Apple Account name.

Tap iCloud, then See All.

Turn on iCloud Calendar for this iPhone.
iCloud Calendar keeps calendar information current across devices signed in to the same Apple Account. If an event is missing, check which account owns the calendar and whether that calendar is enabled for display on the iPhone.
Other calendar accounts and computer sync
Calendars can also come from account providers, and Apple documents syncing calendar information between iPhone and a computer for people who do not use iCloud. Updates for accounts without Push support may use a fetch schedule instead. Find it in the calendar account settings. Apple says the Automatically option fetches new data when iPhone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi, so updates may not appear immediately in every setup.

By default, Calendar displays events according to the time zone of your current location. Two settings address different needs:

Time Zone on an event: Use this when scheduling the event in its actual time zone. Edit the event’s start or end time, tap Time Zone, and search for the location.

Time Zone Override: Use this to keep Calendar displaying a chosen zone while you travel. Go to Settings > Apps > Calendar > Time Zone Override and select a place. Existing events display in that zone while retaining their original zone information.
Time Zone Override changes only the time zone displayed in Calendar; it does not reschedule events.

How to find an event with Search
Tap Search in Calendar and enter a term. Results can match an event’s title, invitees, location, or notes. You can also ask Siri a question such as, “What’s on my calendar for Friday?”
Invitations, sharing, and calendar views
Apple’s iPhone User Guide includes separate instructions for sending and responding to invitations, changing event views, and sharing iCloud calendars.
