No—most players do not need a 1,000Hz monitor. A display that fast could matter to competitive players whose PC can deliver extremely high frame rates, but 1,000Hz is not the same as one-millisecond input-to-screen response, and it does not guarantee a visible or competitive advantage. AOC’s AGON PRO AGP257FT is an announced 24.5-inch Full HD monitor expected in Q1 2027; its price and independent performance are not yet established.
What AOC has announced
AGON by AOC announced the AGON PRO AGP257FT on 30 September 2026. AOC lists these specifications and launch details:
- Panel and size: 24.5-inch (62.2 cm) oxide-based Fast IPS
- Resolution: Full HD
- Refresh rate: 1,000Hz native, with an overclocked mode up to 1,050Hz
- Response time: minimum 0.3ms grey-to-grey (GtG), according to AOC
- Other listed features: VESA DisplayHDR 400 and hardware-based eye-comfort features
- Expected availability: Q1 2027; AOC has not stated a price
These are manufacturer specifications and a target availability window, not independent test results or confirmation that the monitor is currently available to buy. AOC’s César Acosta, Senior Gaming Product Manager, said the monitor was designed to remove the display as a limiting factor. That is the company’s promotional description, not a measured guarantee of how it performs in games. (AGON by AOC announcement, 30 September 2026; PC Gamer, 1 October 2026)

Refresh rate is how often a monitor can update its image. At 1,000Hz, the interval between refreshes is 1 millisecond. For comparison, 500Hz corresponds to 2 milliseconds and 240Hz to about 4.17 milliseconds. Those are intervals calculated from the refresh rates; they are not measurements of total time from a mouse click to a visible change on screen.

That full delay—often called end-to-end system latency—also depends on the input device, game and CPU processing, rendering, the GPU and the display. NVIDIA describes these as separate parts of the latency chain. A fast panel can reduce the display’s part of that chain, but it cannot make every other part take no time. (NVIDIA’s latency explainer)
Refresh rate is not frame rate
A monitor’s refresh rate is its capacity to update; frame rate is how many frames the computer renders. To make full use of 1,000Hz, a game and PC need to supply frames at a correspondingly high rate. If the system renders fewer frames, the display cannot show a new rendered frame on every refresh. A high maximum refresh rate alone does not guarantee that a game will run at that rate or that total latency will fall by the same proportion. NVIDIA notes that higher FPS generally correlates with lower system latency, but the relationship is not one-to-one. (NVIDIA’s latency explainer)

Who might benefit from 1,000Hz?
The most plausible audience is a competitive player in a fast-paced game who prioritizes responsiveness, can sustain exceptionally high frame rates, and is willing to choose a 24.5-inch Full HD display. Even in that case, the monitor’s actual motion clarity and latency need independent measurement before anyone can say how much it helps in practice.

The available NVIDIA Research study compared 60, 120 and 240Hz LCD conditions in specific competitive-gaming tasks—not 1,000Hz—and its results do not establish a universal optimum or a need for this AOC monitor. NVIDIA’s findings are task-dependent, so they should not be treated as a rule for every game or player. (NVIDIA Research, “Esports Arms Race: Latency and Refresh Rate for Competitive Gaming Tasks”)

What to weigh before choosing this monitor
The 1,000Hz headline is only one part of the decision. The AGP257FT pairs its announced speed with Full HD resolution, so compare it with alternatives based on what you play and what your PC can actually deliver:
- Refresh rate and sustainable frame rate: Consider the rates your games and hardware can maintain, not just the monitor’s maximum.
- Resolution and image detail: A 24.5-inch Full HD panel makes a different trade-off from a higher-resolution display.
- Measured motion performance: AOC’s minimum 0.3ms GtG figure is a manufacturer specification. A GtG number by itself does not establish real-world motion clarity or overall response performance.
- Latency across the system: The monitor is one part of the chain; input, game processing and rendering also matter.
- Game and use case: The value of extremely high refresh depends on the games you play and how much you prioritize competitive responsiveness.
- Price and availability: AOC has announced a Q1 2027 target, but the announcement does not give a price or confirm retail listings.
Independent testing of the AGP257FT is not available in the cited coverage, so its real-world latency, motion clarity and competitive impact remain unverified. Check the final specifications, local listings and price when it reaches its stated launch window.
