No: the claim that AnyPS5 developers have ported nearly 90% of the PlayStation 5 library is misleading. The reported figure refers to implemented system-library functions, not PS5 games. A separate figure near 96% measures tracked shader instructions—not the share of games that run.
What AnyPS5 does—and what “ported” means here
AnyPS5 is a project intended to automatically port PS5 executables to Linux and Windows. Its README describes a relinker that converts an executable to the target system’s native format and supplies implementations of system PRX libraries needed for dynamic linking. The project says this approach does not use emulation or a separate runtime process.
Ars Technica characterizes the method as relinking a game’s original x86 code into a native PC executable, placing it between static decompilation and emulating the full PS5 environment. That description helps explain the approach, but it does not mean AnyPS5 has ported most PS5 games. A game still depends on the system functions and GPU behavior it uses, and a working result for one title does not establish compatibility for others. Ars Technica’s October 1, 2026 report also describes the project’s work as an early development effort.

What the nearly 90% figure measures
It measures a portion of system-library functions known to the project—not games. The AnyPS5 README says its percentage counts functions declared or discovered so far, rather than every function in the PS5 system libraries; the known-function denominator can increase as the project identifies more functions. That percentage cannot be translated into a share of the PS5 game catalogue.

Two October 6, 2026 reports give different snapshots of progress. Keep their figures tied to their source and snapshot rather than combining them into one definitive live total:
| Report and snapshot | System-library functions | GPU shader instructions | What the figures describe |
|---|---|---|---|
| GameGPU, October 6, 2026 | 2,449 of 2,815 discovered PRX functions implemented (87.0%) | 1,125 of 1,166 known instructions translated (96.48%) | Reported coverage of discovered functions and known shader instructions, not games. GameGPU |
| TweakTown, October 6, 2026, reporting an October 5 screenshot | 2,538 of 3,207 tracked functions (79.14%) | 1,118 of 1,166 tracked instructions supported (95.88%) | Reported project-tracked coverage, not game compatibility. TweakTown |
The reports differ in their system-function totals and percentages, so neither number should be presented without its publication and snapshot context. Both distinguish these engineering measures from whether commercial games are ready to run. Ars Technica’s earlier October 1 snapshot reported about 76% system-library coverage and 50% shader-instruction support; those are earlier figures, not current measures.

Why shader coverage also is not game compatibility
Shader instructions are another part of the translation work. AnyPS5’s reported shader percentages compare translated or supported instructions with the instructions tracked by the project. They do not count games, and a high percentage does not show that a particular game’s shaders—or its other dependencies—work correctly.
For the same reason, system-library coverage and shader coverage are separate engineering indicators. Neither tells a reader how many games boot, reach gameplay, run reliably, or are suitable for release. A game-by-game status list is more useful for that question than either aggregate percentage.

What has actually been shown to run?
The project README names Dreaming Sarah, a 2D platformer, as running at a stable 60 fps on a GTX 1050 Ti and an i5-7500 at 3.4 GHz. That is a specific documented result, not a minimum hardware requirement or evidence that the wider PS5 library works. The README links to the project’s verified-games list for per-title information.
Ars Technica also reported proof-of-concept footage of the PS5 edition of Dead Cells running as a native PC executable through AnyPS5. “Proof of concept” matters: the footage demonstrates a result for that title, not general readiness or broad compatibility.

- Enjoy smooth and fluid high frame rate gameplay at up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.
- PS5 consoles support an 8K output, so you can play games on your 4320p resolution display.
- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
What happens when a game uses an unsupported feature?
The README states: “Unsupported or unexpected states strictly throw std::runtime_error. what() is printed to stderr and the process terminates.” In practical terms, an unsupported state can stop execution rather than being handled transparently. A game’s behavior therefore depends on whether the project implements the specific functions and GPU behavior that title reaches.

Are there published PC or operating-system requirements?
The cited project documentation and reporting do not establish minimum PC specifications or supported Windows and Linux versions. The GTX 1050 Ti and i5-7500 setup is the configuration documented for one game result; treating it as a general requirement would go beyond what the project has stated. The README describes the intended target platforms as Linux and Windows, but readers should consult the project’s current build and usage documentation for applicable setup details.

Does AnyPS5 mean PS5 games are now playable natively on PC?
Not as a general claim. The project describes a way to relink executables and implement required system libraries, and there are reports of individual proof-of-concept or verified results. Those examples do not establish that most PS5 games—or 96% of them—can run on PC. For an individual title, use the project’s verified-games list and look for the exact status rather than inferring compatibility from aggregate technical percentages.
Legal and project-use context
The README says AnyPS5 is intended for interoperability, research, preservation, and compatibility. It also says the project does not include, distribute, or require copyrighted software, firmware, cryptographic keys, or proprietary libraries, and assigns users responsibility for obtaining and using binaries in accordance with applicable laws and license terms. Those statements describe the project’s documentation; they are not legal advice.
