Short answer: customer experiences with P.C. Richard & Son TV repair appear mixed, and the outcome depends more on your coverage, TV size, location and failure than on the retailer’s name alone. P.C. Richard operates an electronics service center in Farmingdale, New York, but a TV described as eligible for in-home service may still be transported there. Before surrendering the set, confirm who is responsible, what the plan covers, how transport will work and what happens if the panel is uneconomical to repair.
Identify which service you are actually requesting
“Warranty repair” can mean several different things:
- Manufacturer warranty: the TV brand or an authorized servicer handles a covered defect.
- P.C. Richard extended service plan: the retailer or an assigned provider administers the claim under the plan attached to your purchase.
- Paid, out-of-warranty repair: you authorize diagnosis and labor at your own expense.
- Excluded damage: impact, cracked panels, burn-in, liquid, surge, lightning, environmental damage and some cosmetic or screen-related issues may not qualify.
- Installation or delivery issue: a loose cable, wall-mount problem or damage from delivery or a previous service visit may require a different claim route.
Check the receipt and the actual contract rather than relying on the word “warranty.” P.C. Richard’s published terms contain important exclusions and qualifications: product-warranties.html.

- Comfortable View with tilt range from +10° to -5°.
“In-home service” does not always mean in-home repair
P.C. Richard says some large products may qualify for in-home service under a manufacturer warranty. Its extended-plan terms also state that televisions 37 inches and larger may still need to be transported to the service facility. In-home work requires clear access; wall mounting, built-in cabinetry or other obstructions can delay service and may create additional charges or responsibility for related property damage.
Ask these questions before booking:
- Will the technician diagnose the TV in my home?
- If a part is needed, who removes and transports the set?
- Who pays pickup, redelivery, wall-mount removal and reinstallation?
- Will the TV be recalibrated after service?
- What happens if the panel is declared failed?
- Is a loaner guaranteed in my written plan, or merely something a local store may offer?
Manufacturer warranty versus P.C. Richard plan
| Question | Manufacturer warranty | P.C. Richard extended plan |
|---|---|---|
| Who may authorize service? | The manufacturer or its authorized servicer | P.C. Richard or an assigned provider |
| Parts and labor | Depends on the brand’s warranty | Published plan describes parts and labor coverage during the term, with no deductible or minimum advertised |
| Physical damage | Usually excluded | Published terms exclude several physical and environmental causes |
| In-home work | Depends on brand and location | Large TVs may still be transported |
| Replacement | Controlled by the manufacturer’s terms | Comparable-performance replacement, generally capped at the original purchase price; display models may result in store credit |
| Downtime payment | Usually limited | Published terms provide no compensation for downtime |
“Repair or replace” is not an unconditional promise of the same, new model or cash. The plan gives P.C. Richard discretion over a comparable replacement and recognizes that technology changes can produce a lower-priced substitute. Service may be outsourced, and coverage can be affected if you leave the service area.

What the plan may exclude
The published terms list or limit coverage for:
- Screen-viewing panels and certain screen-related components (the public wording does not explain every panel-failure scenario).
- Cosmetic parts and burned-in images.
- Impact or other physical damage.
- Water, sand or other external substances.
- Lightning, power surges, floods and natural disasters.
- Altered serial numbers, rust or insect infestation.
- Failure after an unauthorized repair.
Do not assume a cracked screen, burn-in or surge damage becomes covered merely because the TV is within the plan dates.

Positive reports
Some customers describe successful warranty handling, in-house repairs, replacement or store assistance. One Long Island discussion reports a TV repaired at the company facility and a loaner being provided; that is an individual account, not a published benefit: Reddit discussion.

Negative reports
Other accounts mention missed or rescheduled appointments, slow parts, unclear status updates, disputes over plan coverage and long periods while a set is away. These are reported failure modes, not a measured company-wide average.
The BBB page currently shows 533 complaints in the previous three years and 133 in the previous 12 months for P.C. Richard & Son overall. Those figures cover the company broadly—not TV repairs specifically—and BBB says complaint records do not represent all customers: BBB complaints. Another anecdotal discussion describes extended-warranty dissatisfaction: Reddit discussion. No public P.C. Richard page establishes a standard TV turnaround time.

How long could it take?
There is no published guaranteed completion deadline. The repair-status lookup provides tracking, not a promised finish date. Ask for the next update date in writing and document every missed appointment.

When paid repair makes financial sense
The failed part usually determines the economics. A panel replacement is commonly the least attractive paid repair; boards, power supplies, inputs, speakers or fans can be more reasonable depending on age and labor. Best Buy’s national-average examples—about $1,500 for a panel, $500 for a main board, $500 for a power supply, $490 for a control board, and $335 each for fans, speakers and inputs—are illustrative industry figures, not P.C. Richard quotes, and vary by region and provider: Best Buy television guide.

A practical consumer heuristic is to compare any estimate above roughly half the cost of a comparable new TV. Request a replacement-versus-repair determination before authorizing a panel job. Premium OLED, mini-LED and very large TVs can justify a higher repair threshold; an older budget set usually cannot. A covered claim is different because parts and labor may add no charge.
Alternatives to P.C. Richard
Use the manufacturer
Choose the brand first when its warranty is active, the defect appears model-specific or genuine brand parts matter. Samsung describes certified technicians and genuine Samsung parts at samsung.com/us/support/service; Sony describes authorized technicians and parts at sony.com/electronics/support/articles/S1F0681. Confirm that the exact failure is covered before assuming service is free.
Use Best Buy/Geek Squad
Best Buy describes in-store repair for TVs under 42 inches and in-home repair for TVs 42 inches or larger, including many out-of-warranty brands. Its TV/home-theater page states a 90-day workmanship warranty; it does not publish one universal repair price. An in-store repair sent to a service center is described by Best Buy as usually taking 1–2 weeks, which is its estimate for that route—not a P.C. Richard benchmark: Best Buy TV repair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse an independent specialist
For an out-of-warranty board, backlight, power or connector problem, obtain a written diagnosis. Require the diagnosis fee, whether it is credited toward repair, parts source (OEM, refurbished or compatible), labor warranty, pickup charges, insurance and a maximum approval amount. Do not authorize open-ended work, and be cautious when the panel is suspected.
Protect yourself before pickup or drop-off
- Photograph the TV powered on, including the defect.
- Photograph model and serial labels.
- Photograph the stand, wall mount, cables and surrounding furniture.
- Record existing scratches or damage and keep the images timestamped.
- Sign out of streaming accounts and remove personal data if the set is being surrendered.
- Ask for the suspected failure, coverage decision and every transport charge in writing.
- Confirm whether replacement means cash, store credit or a comparable model selected under the plan.
- Keep the service-order number, receipts, technician notes, emails and appointment records.
Verdict: is P.C. Richard worth trying?
Use P.C. Richard first when the TV was bought there and an active plan clearly covers the failure; having the retailer manage a repair-or-replacement claim can be valuable, especially for a large set. Contact the manufacturer first when its warranty is active or authorized brand parts are the priority. For paid work, get a written diagnosis and compare it with replacement cost before approving anything. The key risk is not simply “bad service”: it is misunderstanding transport, exclusions, replacement terms and the absence of a guaranteed turnaround.
