Anthropic’s November 18, 2025, partnership announcement committed the company to purchase $30 billion in Azure compute capacity and to contract additional capacity of up to one gigawatt. It named Microsoft and NVIDIA as partners, while separately saying Amazon remained Anthropic’s primary cloud provider and training partner. The deal therefore adds a major Azure compute commitment; it does not, by itself, show that Amazon was replaced.

What Anthropic, Microsoft, and NVIDIA announced

On November 18, 2025, Anthropic announced strategic partnerships with Microsoft and NVIDIA. Anthropic committed to purchase $30 billion of Azure compute capacity and agreed to contract additional compute capacity up to one gigawatt. Microsoft also announced the partnership that day.

The $30 billion is a stated purchase commitment for Azure compute, not a reported tally of capacity already delivered or deployed. The announcement’s separate “up to one gigawatt” language describes additional capacity Anthropic said it would contract. Anthropic also described its initial compute commitment as up to one gigawatt using NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. These formulations should not be added together as if they were separate gigawatt deployments.

What Vera Rubin support means

Anthropic said its initial compute commitment would use NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. NVIDIA later named Anthropic among expected adopters of Rubin and said AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, and OCI were expected to deploy Vera Rubin-based instances in 2026. These are announced expectations, not confirmation that every provider deployment has been completed or that Anthropic’s capacity is already operational.

The announcement establishes an infrastructure plan, not a quantified division of Anthropic’s workloads among cloud providers. It does not establish when all committed capacity became available or how much of it Anthropic ultimately used.

Is Amazon still Anthropic’s main cloud partner?

Yes, according to Anthropic’s public description. In the November 2025 announcement, Anthropic said Amazon remained its primary cloud provider and training partner. In an April 6, 2026, announcement, Anthropic again described Amazon in those terms. That wording indicates how Anthropic characterized the relationship at those dates; it does not quantify Amazon’s share of Anthropic’s computing or training workloads.

“Amazon-backed” is useful context for understanding why readers may wonder about the relationship, but Amazon was not named as a participant in the November Microsoft–NVIDIA partnership announcement. The named partners in that announcement were Anthropic, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.

Where customers can access Claude

In April 2026, Anthropic identified three cloud routes for customer access to Claude:

How to read the deal without conflating its parts

Question What the announcements establish What they do not establish
Azure commitment Anthropic stated a $30 billion commitment to purchase Azure compute capacity. The full amount of capacity purchased, delivered, or made operational.
Capacity scale Anthropic said it would contract additional compute capacity up to one gigawatt; it also described its initial compute commitment as up to one gigawatt. A delivered or operational one-gigawatt deployment, or two separate gigawatt commitments to be summed.
Amazon relationship Anthropic described Amazon as its primary cloud provider and training partner in November 2025 and again in April 2026. A measured workload split, market share, or comparison of capacity across providers.
Claude availability Anthropic named Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Azure Foundry as customer access routes in April 2026. Model-by-model availability or feature parity across those services.

What remains unknown

The cited announcements describe commitments and plans, but do not verify the final amount of capacity bought, when all of it became operational, how Anthropic divided workloads across cloud providers, or whether a later contract amended the deal. They also do not establish parity among Claude offerings on Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Azure Foundry.
