Anthropic launched Claude for people and businesses across Europe on May 14, 2024, expanding access through Claude.ai, a free iOS app and its Team plan. The move was also part of a commercial push: Anthropic was seeking paid subscribers, API customers and larger business deployments. By 2025, the company was adding European staff and planning more offices, while Reuters reported that business and enterprise customers generated most of its revenue.
When did Claude launch in Europe, and how could people access it?
Anthropic announced the European launch on May 14, 2024. Its announcement listed Claude.ai, a free iOS app and the Claude Team plan. Anthropic said the Claude API had launched in Europe earlier that year, allowing developers to integrate Claude into applications, websites and services. The announcement described availability across Europe, but did not provide a country-by-country rollout list.
Anthropic also said Claude could work in French, German, Spanish, Italian and other European languages. That is a statement about the languages it supported, not a published measure of quality or a claim that every feature was available in every language.
What did Anthropic charge at launch?
The prices below are from Anthropic’s May 14, 2024 announcement. They are historical launch prices, not confirmed current prices; subscription pricing and plan terms can change.

Why is Anthropic expanding in Europe?
The expansion serves a commercial purpose as well as a geographic one. Consumer subscriptions can bring in individual users, while API access and team or enterprise deployments give organizations ways to build Claude into workflows and products. Reuters reported in 2025 that Anthropic had more than 300,000 business and enterprise customers, which together accounted for about 80% of its revenue. Those figures help explain why building local sales and operating capacity matters to the company.
Rank #2
On April 8, 2025, Anthropic named Guillaume Princen Head of EMEA and announced plans to add more than 100 roles across Europe, primarily in Dublin and London. The company said the hiring followed rapid organic growth among businesses and consumers. Princen framed the push around business demand for AI that also prioritizes security and privacy; that is Anthropic’s stated rationale, not independent evidence that Claude meets every organization’s requirements.

Reuters also quoted Anthropic saying EMEA had become its fastest-growing region, with run-rate revenue up more than nine times over the preceding year. The company’s statement concerns revenue growth, not a measured European market share.

What does the revenue push mean—and what do the figures show?
Anthropic’s routes to revenue include paid consumer and team subscriptions, API access for developers, and enterprise deployments. These serve different buyers: an individual can subscribe directly, a developer can use the API in a product, and an organization can deploy Claude for employees or business processes. Reuters described enterprise products as the main growth engine and reported that Claude Code had reached nearly $1 billion in annualized revenue since launch, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Reuters reported in October 2025 that Anthropic’s internal target was a $9 billion annualized revenue run rate by the end of 2025. It also reported internal 2026 projections ranging from a base case above $20 billion to a best case of $26 billion. These were projections attributed to people familiar with the company’s plans, not audited results. Reuters defined annualized revenue run rate as annual revenue extrapolated from the current pace of sales.
Rank #4
In that same report, Anthropic confirmed to Reuters that its run rate was approaching $7 billion at the time, but declined to comment on the future projections. The confirmed statement and the reported targets are different kinds of evidence: one is the company’s description of its then-current pace; the others are reported internal goals and scenarios.
How does Claude compare with ChatGPT for European users?
For a Europe-focused comparison, the available evidence supports a limited set of points: Anthropic announced Claude access through its web service, iOS app, API and Team plan, and specifically named several European languages it supports. The company’s hiring, leadership and office plans also show an effort to build a regional presence. This information does not establish how Claude compares with ChatGPT on answer quality, features, privacy terms, price today or country-by-country availability.
Best Value
Reuters characterizes Anthropic as an OpenAI rival in the competition between Claude and OpenAI’s GPT family. That framing does not, by itself, establish either service’s European market share. No European market-share figure is established by the sources cited here, so a claim that one chatbot leads the other in Europe would go beyond the evidence.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can businesses use the Claude API in Europe?
Anthropic said the API launched in Europe before its May 2024 consumer and Team announcement. It described the API as a way to integrate Claude into applications, websites and services, making it relevant to businesses building their own software as well as organizations evaluating an enterprise deployment.
The announcement does not specify country-by-country API eligibility, current technical limits, data-handling terms or regulatory compliance for a particular use case. Businesses should confirm current access and review Anthropic’s applicable API, security and privacy documentation before choosing Claude for a production system.
