Anthony Mackie says he expects to return to work on Avengers: Secret Wars after his Broadway engagement in 2027—but his wording indicates when he plans to finish his work, not when filming begins. It does not confirm a production delay or a change to the film’s reported December 17, 2027 release date.
What Anthony Mackie said about Secret Wars
GamesRadar+ reports that Mackie told Deadline: “So once I finish on Broadway, I’ll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars.” The quote places his remaining Avengers work after the Broadway show, but it does not say that he will only begin filming then. GamesRadar+’s report says he may have filmed some material before the engagement.
The available statement does not specify when Mackie’s filming starts, how long his total work on the movie will take, or how much work will remain after the show. “Finish up” should not be read as a precise production schedule.

Does this mean Secret Wars is delayed?
No delay is confirmed by Mackie’s comment. GamesRadar+ reports the movie’s current release date as December 17, 2027, but an actor’s schedule alone does not establish when the full production will film or whether the release date will change. The date is the reported schedule as of October 7, 2026, and may change.
The distinction is between Mackie’s individual work and the film’s overall schedule: his comment addresses the former, not whether the entire production will wait for him.

What the 2015 Secret Wars comics have to do with the film
GamesRadar+’s Secret Wars guide assesses that the movie is likely to draw heavily on Marvel’s 2015 comic run. That storyline centers on Battleworld, which Doctor Doom reconstructs from pieces of different universes. This is comic-book context, not confirmation that the film will reproduce those plot details.

Readers interested in that background can look to a Secret Wars (2015) comic collection, but the comics are optional context and do not clarify Mackie’s filming schedule.

ComingSoon.net also reports Mackie’s post-Broadway comment and the December 17, 2027 date. The quoted wording and Broadway schedule here are attributed by entertainment outlets to Mackie’s Deadline interview; the interview page was not directly accessible for verification.
