The phone this headline most likely refers to is Huawei’s Pura X View, a wide-screen Android phone with a conventional, non-folding body. Instead of opening a hinge to reach a larger display, it uses a wider screen in a slab-style design. The identification comes from an Android Central report dated August 20, 2026. The headline does not name the device, so the match rests on that report’s description.
A wide screen without a hinge
Foldable phones get their larger display by unfolding, so the screen size depends on the hinge. The Pura X View keeps a fixed body and relies on a wider panel inside it. The table below compares the two approaches using only what the August 2026 reporting establishes.
| Factor | Pura X View (as reported) | Typical wide foldable |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | Non-folding, slab-style body | Hinged; opens to a larger inner display |
| Display shape | Wider than typical flagship phones, according to Huawei’s comparisons | Outer and inner screens usually have different aspect ratios |
| Price | Not stated in the August 2026 reporting | Varies by model; check the specific product |
| Availability | China preorders through Huawei VMall and JD.com, with a retail launch set for August 28, 2026 | Depends on the model and market |
The August 28 date is now in the past. The reporting does not confirm whether sales began on schedule, or whether the phone will sell outside China, so treat its availability as unresolved until you check the sources in the final section.
The figures Huawei is claiming
Android Central reported the following numbers from Huawei. None are independent measurements, and the report did not describe how the comparisons were run.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Huawei Pura X ,Compatible with MagSafe
- The flexible TPU bezel and PC back case absorbs the impact of an accidental drop and provides complete protection for your phone. The 0.5mm raised anti-abrasion buffer ring and all-encompassing lens opening design protects your camera and flash.
- Anti-scratch and anti-fingerprint The frosted back is specially designed to protect against fingerprints, watermarks, oil and dust, keeping it clean and tidy.
- Compatible with MagSafe ,with magnetic adsorption, such as wireless charger, magnetic car mount, magnetic battery pack, magnetic wallet, etc. You just need to put the cell phone You only need to put your cell phone on the charger, no need to remove the case. The perfectly aligned magnetic field attraction makes wireless charging faster and more stable. (Must have wireless charging on the phone itself)
- Precise cutouts are designed for easy access to all ports, buttons and camera. The buttons are soft, responsive and easy to press, and are easy to install and remove.
| Claim | Figure | Comparison basis |
|---|---|---|
| Screen-to-body ratio | 96.1% | Huawei’s own figure; no comparison set given |
| Bezel width | 1.05 mm | Huawei’s own figure; no comparison set given |
| Screen space for video | 16% more | Compared with “typical flagship phones,” in portrait mode |
| Screen space for portrait browsing | 21% more | Compared with “typical flagship phones,” in portrait mode |
Huawei positions the extra width for reading, scrolling, and video. Those are plausible uses for a wider panel, but the reporting does not include hands-on tests showing that the phone delivers them in practice. Read the percentages as company comparisons against an unspecified group of phones.

Why a wider screen depends on app behavior
A wider display only helps when apps use it. Android handles this in a few ways, and the outcome varies from app to app. General Android large-screen behavior, described in Android Authority’s explainer on wide foldables, includes the following points:
Rank #3
- Compatible with T-Mobile 5G and Verizon 5G. Ready for 5G on other select networks dependent on availability; contact your service provider for details. Compatible with all major 4G U.S. carriers, including Verizon, ATandT, and T-Mobile. It also works with prepaid carriers, including Cricket Wireless, Metro by T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, Tracfone, Net10, Mint, TracFone, and H2O.
- Unrivaled external display. Access everything that matters—without opening your phone—on the largest, most advanced external display for a flip phone.
- Iconic flip design, reimagined. Experience a fully interactive 3.6" external display, then flip open for an ultra-smooth, incredibly vivid 6.9" pOLED screen.
- Capture like never before. With Flex View, stand your phone on its own at multiple angles, giving you entirely new ways to interact, capture, and create.
- Ultra-flexible cameras. Capture more detail in any light or go ultrawide and fit more in the frame. Get the ultimate selfies with powerful cameras and the external display.
- Apps built for a narrower aspect ratio may show letterboxing, leaving unused bars on the sides.
- Apps that are not optimized for large screens can stretch or reflow in unexpected ways.
- Android 14 QPR1 added a user option to force unoptimized apps to full screen. That option can change layout, but it is a general Android feature, not a documented Pura X View setting.
Nothing in the reporting shows how the Pura X View handles these cases, so check the behavior of the apps you use most before assuming the wider screen will help.
Other wide-format devices on the way
Wide displays are not limited to non-folding phones. Several makers have shown or leaked wider designs, but these should be treated as announcements or rumors, not shipping products.

What to check before buying
The reporting is dated, and most purchase details were not public when it was published. Use this checklist before you buy:
- Confirm the exact model name and current price on Huawei’s official site or an authorized seller in your country.
- Ask the seller whether the model includes Google Mobile Services and which Google apps work in your region.
- Check that the model supports the network bands used by your carrier.
- Read the warranty terms and find out where local support is provided.
- Confirm whether the phone is on sale in your market, since the August 2026 reporting covered a China-first launch.
If you are comparing it with a foldable, use the same four factors as the table above: construction, usable display area, app behavior, and price in your market.
