The Anker Soundcore Nebula P1’s standout feature is not extra brightness or a theater-grade picture: it is a pair of detachable 10W speakers that can sit apart from the projector for more convincing stereo sound. That makes the P1 an appealing option for casual evening viewing, especially if sound placement matters to you. Its 650 ANSI-lumen specification, 1080p resolution and lack of an internal battery are meaningful limits, though, so it is a poor fit for bright rooms or anyone expecting a fully self-powered outdoor movie setup.

What the Nebula P1 is—and what it is not

The P1 is a portable-format DLP projector with Google TV and two detachable wireless speakers. Soundcore specifies a 1920×1080 resolution, a 4-LED light source, 650 ANSI lumens and a 400:1 standard-mode contrast ratio. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Its central appeal is the ability to place the speakers apart from the projector, rather than relying on one small enclosure for all the sound.

That portability has a catch: the projector itself has no built-in battery. The P1 is therefore easier to move and position than a fixed home projector, but it still needs mains or suitable external power to project. Its best use case is an evening movie or show in controlled lighting, not a bright living room or a reference-quality home theater.

How good is the P1’s picture?

Independent reviewers agree that lighting conditions and expectations matter. RTINGS judged the P1 a poor home-theater choice, citing weak brightness and contrast, washed-out images, muted color and motion judder; it also notes that some viewers may be sensitive to rainbow effects. ProjectorCentral describes it as capable and flexible but says it prioritizes convenience over image fidelity, with brightness, highlight-handling and visible-dithering trade-offs. WIRED, after using it indoors and outdoors for more than a month, called the 1080p image “just-OK.” These are the reviewers’ assessments, not a guarantee that every viewer or room will see the same result.

soundcore Nebula P1 Portable Projector with Detachable Speakers
  • 【Cinematic Audio, Anywhere You Go】: Unlock, detach, and place the speakers wherever you like for true stereo sound exactly where you’re sitting. Nebula P1’s detachable 20W wireless speakers deliver 2.0 room-filling stereo with Dolby Audio depth, without the need for a soundbar or external speaker. Enjoy up to 20 hours of wireless playback.
  • 【Exceptional Image Brings Movies to Life】: With 650 ANSI lumens calibrated for evening use, Nebula P1 delivers sharp 1080P Full HD detail at 80–180 inches with 124% Rec.709 color coverage for accurate, lifelike visuals. Designed for both indoor and outdoor viewing, it maintains consistently clear image quality over time.
  • 【Holds Any Angle, Moves with You】: From living room walls to bedroom ceilings to backyard surfaces, Nebula P1’s dual-arm 130° gimbal holds its position without drift or wobble for stable projection. With a built-in handle, you can move and set up in under a minute.
  • 【Instant Auto Setup, Zero Hassle】: Smart auto focus, keystone correction, screen fit, and obstacle avoidance automatically adjust the image when you place or tilt the projector, reducing setup to a quick, simple adjustment instead of manual tuning.
  • 【All Your Streaming in One, Long-term Entertainment】: Access over 400,000 movies and shows through Google TV, including Netflix—no sideloading or external devices required. Google account and internet connection required for initial setup and Google TV access.

TechRadar offers a more favorable casual-viewing take: its scorecard calls the image respectable up to 100 inches after adjustments, while warning that 650 lumens and 1080p limit the impact of very large pictures. Taken together, the reviews support a practical conclusion: use a dark or controlled-light room, and do not buy the P1 for a large, bright, high-fidelity image.

Screen size and placement

Soundcore’s FAQ lists these sample distances. They are placement references, not a guarantee that a given wall or screen will look equally bright at every size.

Diagonal image Distance from screen
60 inches 1.59 m
80 inches 2.13 m
100 inches 2.66 m
120 inches 3.19 m

The listed throw ratio is 1.2:1. The projector’s gimbal adjusts through a maximum 130-degree angle, which gives placement flexibility, but it does not remove the need to find a suitable projection surface and viewing distance.

Are the detachable speakers really all about bass?

The speakers are the P1’s clearest differentiator. Soundcore lists two 10W units and up to 20 hours of wireless speaker playback. That figure applies to the speakers, not the projector; it does not mean the complete projector can run unplugged for 20 hours.

ProjectorCentral reports that each speaker has a 480cc acoustic chamber, with bass response down to approximately 65Hz, peak output up to 85dBA and latency below 60ms. Those figures are claims reported by that review, not independently verified measurements here. What Hi-Fi? calls the audio a distinctive strength, while TechRadar also praises the satellite speakers. Detaching and separating them can make left-right sound more convincing than a single projector speaker, but it cannot improve the projected image.

Sound modes

The official FAQ lists Movies, Music, Outdoors and Custom modes. Soundcore says Outdoors mode slightly reduces bass while increasing maximum volume to improve clarity in open or noisy settings. Custom mode lets listeners adjust bass and treble. So bass is part of the product’s appeal, but the outdoor preset deliberately trades some low-end weight for audibility.

Power and outdoor use: the important limitation

There is no battery inside the projector. Anker’s US product listing recommends its SOLIX C300 power station and estimates 3.5–3.7 hours with all features in use. That is the manufacturer’s estimate for that power station and stated usage, not a general runtime for any battery or power bank. What Hi-Fi? cites one hour using an Anker 737 Power Bank in its configuration and recommends at least 100W output for unofficial USB-C supplies. Those examples are not directly comparable because the power source, brightness, speaker use and load can differ.

For outdoor viewing, plan the power arrangement before you take the projector outside. Confirm that your power station or supply can meet the projector’s requirements, and do not assume an unspecified USB-C power bank will last through a movie. TechRadar describes IP33 protection for the projector and IP54 for the speakers, but those ratings should not be treated as permission to expose the equipment or power supply to water; check the applicable regional documentation before relying on a weather-protection rating.

Setup, streaming and connections

The US listing describes autofocus, keystone correction, screen fit and obstacle avoidance. These features are intended to reduce setup work, and ProjectorCentral likewise describes automatic features for focus, keystone and obstacle avoidance. They do not make the setup infallible: Soundcore’s FAQ says the projected image does not automatically stabilize if the projector itself moves or shakes slightly.

Streaming app catalogues and availability depend on region and can change. What Hi-Fi? found BBC iPlayer unavailable in its market and describes phone casting as a workaround, so check the services you actually use rather than assuming every regional app is present.

Who should buy the Nebula P1?

  • Consider it if you want a projector with detachable speakers for casual movie or TV viewing in a dim room, and value flexible placement and built-in Google TV.
  • Look elsewhere if you need a bright-room picture, strong contrast and color for serious home theater, or motion performance without the compromises reviewers report.
  • Plan carefully if outdoor use is the goal: the projector needs external power, and its speakers’ wireless-playback claim is not projector battery life.
  • Compare before buying if the current price is close to projectors that better match your priorities. For a useful comparison, assess brightness in the same room and screen size, contrast and motion, sound placement, power and runtime, portability and protection, regional apps and ports, and street price.

As of October 4, 2026, Soundcore’s US product page displayed a price of $799. That is a dated US listing price, not a promise of current availability or a price in other markets. TechRadar reports launch prices of $799 in the US, £699.99 in the UK and AU$1,299.99 in Australia, with discounts later; regional stock, bundles and promotions can change. Anker Japan said sales there began on February 18, 2026, through its store, Anker Store locations, Amazon Japan, Rakuten and selected retailers.

Verdict

The Nebula P1 is a sound-led portable projector, not a picture-first one. Its separated speakers and convenient Google TV setup give it a distinctive role for casual, controlled-light viewing. Its modest specified brightness, image-quality trade-offs described by reviewers and need for external power make it a much less compelling choice for bright rooms, serious home theater or truly untethered outdoor use. Buy it for the audio arrangement and flexibility only if those strengths matter more to you than image fidelity and battery-free portability.
