The Anker Nebula P1i is a portable 1080p Google TV projector with automatic setup and unusually adjustable built-in speakers. It is best suited to casual viewing in a dark room: its 380 ANSI-lumen rating is modest, and independent reviewers report that ambient light quickly weakens the picture. It also has no built-in battery, so moving it between rooms is easy, but using it away from an outlet requires an external power source.

Is the Anker Nebula P1i worth it?

It can make sense if you want a self-contained projector for a bedroom, a darkened living room, or an occasional outdoor screening after dark—and value simple setup and flexible sound more than a bright, high-contrast image. Its 1080p resolution and Google TV make it a convenient all-in-one option, but neither feature overcomes the brightness and picture-quality limits noted by independent reviewers.

WIRED rated the P1i 6/10. Reviewer Chris Haslam found its picture suitable for casual viewing in a dark room, while warning that ambient light quickly washes it out, especially beyond 60 inches. WIRED describes 60–80 inches in low light as acceptable guidance, not a guaranteed result for every room or screen. WIRED’s review also praises the speaker design but notes the lack of an internal battery.

For a larger image, brighter room, or image quality that matters more than convenience, the evidence points to looking beyond the P1i. RTINGS’ independent testing describes its brightness and contrast as poor, with raised black levels, limited color volume, and noticeable motion blur. RTINGS’ review was published May 15, 2026, and updated August 18, 2026.

How bright is the picture, and how large should you project?

Anker specifies 380 ANSI lumens and 1920 × 1080 resolution. Brightness is the main constraint: a darkened room is the sensible starting point, while daylight or substantial room lighting can make the image look washed out. WIRED’s practical guidance is a 60–80-inch screen in low light; it specifically warns that ambient light becomes a problem, particularly as the image grows past 60 inches. Treat this as review guidance rather than a promise of a particular picture in your space.

Anker lists a 1500:1 contrast ratio and a 1.25:1 throw ratio. Those specifications do not erase RTINGS’ observed weak contrast, raised blacks, and limited color volume. The projector’s 1080p resolution describes pixel count, not how vivid or visible the image will be in a lit room.

What are the speakers and setup features like?

The P1i has two 10 W speakers that Anker says rotate 90 degrees side to side and 200 degrees vertically. WIRED found them more substantial than expected and notes they can play while folded flush against the projector. That flexible arrangement is a notable part of the all-in-one design: you can aim the sound without needing separate speakers for casual viewing.

The official support specifications list Google TV, 2 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage. Anker’s US product page advertises autofocus, automatic keystone correction, obstacle avoidance, and screen fit. RTINGS found the built-in stand and automatic features helpful for quick setup, but notes a key limit: there is no optical zoom or lens shift. If the projector sits off-axis from the screen, the image can be less clean or sharp; automatic correction does not give it the placement flexibility of those optical adjustments.

Can you use the P1i without an outlet?

No—not on its own. Anker explicitly says the projector has no built-in battery. For outdoor use, its US page recommends the SOLIX C300 and estimates 3.5–3.7 hours with all features in use. That runtime is a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test result, and depends on using the specified external power source. An external battery makes an outlet unnecessary for a session; it does not make the P1i self-powered.

Is it suitable for gaming?

RTINGS reports very low input lag at 60 Hz in Game Mode, which may suit casual 1080p/60 gaming when responsiveness matters. The trade-off is a 60 Hz ceiling and motion blur associated with its LCD imaging, so it is not the right choice if you prioritize high refresh rates or crisp motion. Its picture limitations also remain relevant for games with dark scenes or vivid color.

How does the P1i compare with other Nebula models?

Anker Japan’s comparison table distinguishes the P1i from two other projectors. These are regional figures from the Japanese product page, not a guarantee that every market has identical listings or specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Model Weight Resolution Brightness Notable distinction
Capsule Air 650 g 720p 150 ANSI lumens Smaller and lighter, with lower listed resolution and brightness
Nebula P1i 3.3 kg 1080p 380 ANSI lumens Built-in speakers rotate and fold against the body
Nebula P1 2.4 kg 1080p 650 ANSI lumens Distinct model with detachable speakers

The figures are from Anker Japan’s comparison and product page. The P1 is not the P1i with a different speaker position: its speakers detach, and RTINGS cautions that P1i test results should not be applied to the P1. Check the intended market’s current specifications before comparing or buying.

What are the size, contents, and price?

Anker’s support listing gives the P1i net dimensions as 183 × 204 × 228 mm and net weight as 3.3 kg. The listed box contents are the projector, adapter, warranty card, quick-start guide, remote, and two AAA batteries. Anker Japan describes an adjustable stand with 15 degrees of stand adjustment, a removable handle, and a 40–150-inch projection-size range; those details are from regional SKU D2200511 and should not be assumed to apply identically in every market. The company notes that specifications may change.

Prices vary by market and date. Anker’s US product page displayed $399 when accessed on October 7, 2026; that is a time-sensitive listing price, not a durable global price or confirmed offer today. Anker Japan listed ¥59,990 including Japanese tax and a February 2026 release month. These are separate regional listings, not directly interchangeable prices.

What should you check before setup?

Anker’s US product page says to install the latest Android 14 system software update before first use for improved optimization and streaming-app compatibility. Because firmware instructions and app support can change, check the live manufacturer page and the projector’s current firmware guidance before setup. Anker’s current product specifications are available on its support specification page, and its US listing is at soundcore’s P1i page.
