A phone that won’t charge does not necessarily have a broken charging port. First rule out the cable, adapter, outlet, and case; then follow the phone maker’s guidance for heat, moisture, debris, or visible damage. If the port is damaged or the fault persists, get a diagnosis and a written, model-specific estimate before deciding between repair and replacement. There is no reliable universal Android charging-port repair price, and the repair method varies by phone model.
What to check before assuming the charging port is broken
- Test the charging setup. Try a known-working cable and compatible power adapter, then try another outlet. Reconnect the cable securely and remove any case that may prevent the plug from seating fully. Samsung Galaxy owners can also use Samsung Members diagnostics to check charging status. - Stop if the phone or charger is hot or a liquid/debris warning appears. For a Pixel, Google advises unplugging the adapter from the wall, disconnecting the cable, and letting the phone cool. If it is too hot to touch, contact support using another device. Do not continue charging through a warning.
- Follow the maker’s instructions for the exact phone. Google says not to put anything into a Pixel USB-C port. For debris, point the port downward and gently tap the phone against your hand. If the Pixel is wet, turn it off and let it dry at room temperature. Do not substitute generic cleaning advice for the manufacturer’s instructions. - Escalate visible damage or recurring warnings. For a Pixel port that appears burned, melted, or corroded, Google directs owners to warranty or authorized repair support. Contact support if an “Unplug charger” warning returns or a “Liquid or debris” warning lasts two hours or more. Stop using a damaged cable and replace it.
If those checks do not resolve the problem, ask a repair provider to diagnose the phone rather than authorizing a port replacement based only on the symptom.
When DIY charging-port repair is reasonable
Consider a DIY repair only when the exact phone model has a documented procedure, a compatible part and the necessary tools are available, and you can follow the instructions safely. Check warranty implications and regional eligibility before opening the phone. Samsung’s UK self-repair page, updated June 19, 2026, describes charging-port self-repair for specified models and says its covered phones are currently limited to the Galaxy S20, S21, and S22 series. Samsung cautions that damage caused by an improper repair by someone other than a Samsung-certified service provider may not be covered. Motorola’s North American right-to-repair information describes genuine parts, tools, documentation, and port-replacement procedures for eligible models; it also warns that damage from improper repair may not be covered. Availability and eligible models can vary by region. Check Samsung UK’s self-repair information and Motorola’s North American right-to-repair information for your device.
Repair procedures are not interchangeable across Android phones, or even across models from the same brand. An iFixit guide for the Galaxy S22 replaces the USB-C port and charging board; its Galaxy S20 guide replaces the daughterboard because the USB-C port is soldered to that board. The S20 guide warns about heat exposure to the display and battery. These are model-specific examples, not evidence that every Android port is a simple board swap or soldered to the motherboard. Consult the Galaxy S22 USB-C port and charging-board guide or Galaxy S20 USB-C port and daughterboard guide only if you have that exact model and compatible parts.

When professional repair is the safer choice
- The port is visibly burned, melted, corroded, or physically damaged.
- A moisture or debris alert, or the charging fault, continues after the manufacturer’s safe troubleshooting steps.
- The documented repair requires soldering, board-level work, or disassembly you are not equipped to do safely.
- The phone is valuable, you lack repair experience, or warranty or statutory consumer rights may apply. Ask the manufacturer or seller about coverage before opening it.
Use the manufacturer’s official regional support route where available, or choose a qualified local repairer who will explain the diagnosis and provide a written estimate before work begins.

No authoritative source establishes one Android charging-port repair price for 2026. Google says Pixel repair charges depend on warranty status, the issue or damage, and the repair partner or location. Its estimate flow requires selecting the device and issue, and the final amount can change after inspection if additional damage is found. In-warranty status does not guarantee a free repair when the damage is excluded, including liquid damage. Start with Google’s repair-cost estimate flow for a Pixel; for another brand, check its regional support channel or get a written local quote.

- Ask for a diagnosis and an itemized total that accounts for the part, labor, related damage, and any warranty on the repair.
- Compare the quote with the phone’s current condition, remaining usefulness, replacement cost, and any other repairs it needs.
- Choose DIY only if the model-specific procedure, compatible part, tools, skill, and repair risk make sense against the professional quote.
There is no evidence-based universal percentage of a replacement phone’s price at which repair stops being worthwhile. The answer depends on the device and what you need it to do.
