If calls to your Android phone go straight to voicemail, check whether the problem is limited to certain callers, whether Android is silencing calls, and whether the call uses your carrier line or Google Voice. Do Not Disturb and other Modes can filter calls; Google Voice has separate voicemail and device-routing controls; and weak mobile service can prevent calls from reaching the phone. The right fix depends on which path the call takes.
First, identify which calls are affected
Does it happen with every caller, or only with particular numbers? If only certain people cannot get through, check blocked numbers and any call-screening or call-blocking app before treating it as a carrier outage. If all callers are affected, check call-filtering settings and service.
Also establish whether callers are dialing your regular mobile number or a Google Voice number. Carrier calls and Google Voice calls use different routing settings, so a phone can ring normally for one and send the other to voicemail.

Check Android Modes and Do Not Disturb
Android’s Do Not Disturb and other Modes can silence or filter calls. Google describes Modes as a way to silence a device and manage when and how it notifies you. Start by opening Quick Settings and turning off Do Not Disturb. If the setting is not visible, look in Settings for Modes or Do Not Disturb; wording and menu locations vary by phone and Android version. Google notes that some instructions apply only to Android 14 and later. Google’s Android Modes and Do Not Disturb guide explains the available controls.

If calls go to voicemail at predictable times, inspect schedules and custom Modes such as Bedtime or Driving. A mode that turns on automatically can explain why the symptom comes and goes even when you have not manually silenced the phone.
If the calls use Google Voice, check its routing separately
Google Voice has its own call availability and voicemail controls. In the Voice app, review incoming-call device options and make sure the phone you expect to ring is selected. Check that Voice Do Not Disturb is off: that setting sends incoming Voice calls to voicemail. Eligible Google Workspace accounts may also have work or out-of-office schedules that affect Voice availability. See Google’s instructions for sending Google Voice calls to voicemail.

Check mobile service and reception
If the problem affects calls to your regular carrier number, or the phone shows weak or no mobile service, try a different location and toggle Airplane mode off and back on. These checks can help with a temporary connection issue; they will not change a carrier-side line or service problem. For recurring activation, service, reception, or call-quality issues, contact your mobile carrier. Google’s Android connection troubleshooting guide and carrier help page outline those next steps.

Wi-Fi calling is an option only if your carrier supports it, and the setting may not appear otherwise. If it is available and Wi-Fi calling is already enabled but not working, restart the phone; persistent problems may require carrier assistance to reactivate the service. See Google’s Wi-Fi calling guidance.
