Google began rolling out Android 15 to Pixel devices on October 15, 2024, but that announcement did not mean the update was ready for every Android phone. Availability depends on the exact phone model and its manufacturer’s update support. Android 15 is now a historical release: Google announced Android 17 in June 2026.
Why Android 15 rolled out but may not be available on your phone
“Rolling out” describes a release starting for a group of devices, not an instant update for every Android phone. Google’s September 3, 2024 announcement said Android 15 would reach more devices later that year, including Pixel and phones from other manufacturers. On October 15, Google said the rollout had started for Pixel devices and cautioned that support could vary by smartphone model. Google’s Android 15 announcement and its September 2024 update do not provide a universal list of eligible phones or an arrival date for each one.
So the practical question is whether Android 15 is supported for your specific model, not whether it has rolled out somewhere. A Pixel announcement does not establish timing for another manufacturer’s phone, and the available information does not establish a complete model-by-model or carrier schedule.
How to check whether Android 15 is available for your phone
- Check the phone’s update screen. Open Settings and look for the system software update option. Its exact name and location can differ by manufacturer. Check for updates and follow the on-screen instructions if Android 15 is offered.
- Check official support information for your exact model. Use the manufacturer’s software-update or support page, matching the full model name or number—not just the product family. If the manufacturer does not list Android 15 for that model, the Google Pixel rollout announcement is not evidence that it will receive the update.
- Use the result to decide what to do next. If the update screen offers Android 15, install it according to the instructions shown there. If it does not, the screen alone cannot tell you whether the model is ineligible or whether availability is pending; consult the manufacturer’s model-specific information rather than relying on a general rollout headline.
Google’s announcement does not give a dependable arrival date for an individual phone, so there is no universal date to predict. Check your model’s official update information for any timing the manufacturer has published.

What Android 15 added
Google highlighted several additions in its October 2024 announcement. Which features appear or work can depend on the phone, apps and supporting services.
Privacy and theft protection
Private Space lets users keep sensitive apps in a separate area protected by another layer of authentication. When locked, those apps are hidden from app lists, recent apps, notifications and settings. Android 15 also adds protections such as authentication for sensitive settings and stronger responses to repeated failed attempts.

Google separately described Theft Detection Lock, which can lock a phone when it detects a snatch-and-run motion, and Remote Lock, which lets a user lock a device using a phone number and security check. Google said those two features were available on most Android 10 and newer devices; they are not exclusive to Android 15. Theft Detection Lock is not supported on Android Go, tablets or wearables, and requires a lock screen. Google’s feature announcement says support may vary by smartphone model.
Multitasking, camera and sign-in
On foldables and tablets, Android 15 adds options to pin or unpin the taskbar and save app pairs for split-screen multitasking. Camera-related additions include Low Light Boost and expanded in-app camera controls. Supporting apps can also offer single-tap passkey sign-in.

Android 15’s rollout began in October 2024. On June 16, 2026, Google announced Android 17, saying it was rolling out first to Pixel and then to other eligible Android devices during 2026. Google’s Android 17 announcement describes that newer release; it is not an Android 15 compatibility list.
