Barcelona confirmed on 20 September 2026 that Andreas Christensen had strained his left thigh, specifically the rectus femoris muscle in his quadriceps. The club said he would be unavailable for the time being and that his return would depend on his recovery; it did not announce a return date. AS reported an expected absence of four to five weeks, but that is a media estimate, not Barcelona’s official prognosis.
What Barcelona confirmed about Christensen’s injury
Barcelona’s medical update on 20 September 2026 identified the injury as a strain to the left rectus femoris, part of the quadriceps. The club said Christensen would be “unavailable for the time being” and that his evolution would determine his return.

Christensen’s Barcelona season before the injury
At the time of its 20 September medical update, Barcelona said Christensen had played six matches in the 2026/27 season, started four, recorded one assist and accumulated 402 minutes. These are the figures reported in that update, not a season-ending total.

Christensen previously sustained a partial anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee in December 2025. Barcelona’s player profile records his return against Valencia on 23 May 2026. That earlier knee injury is distinct from the newly confirmed left-thigh strain; the available information does not establish a connection between them.
What to watch for next
Barcelona has said Christensen’s return depends on his evolution. A newer club medical update would be needed to establish any change in his status or a firmer timetable; the four-to-five-week estimate remains AS’s reporting, not a club-confirmed date.
