A passenger’s Xbox prompted a carry-on search at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, according to a September 22, 2026, report republished by Yahoo News Malaysia. TSA officers reportedly found several fake IDs in the bag, and Port Authority Police confirmed they were fraudulent. The report does not explain what caused the Xbox bag to trigger an alarm.
What happened at LaGuardia?
The report says TSA officer Ashley Leo was remotely monitoring a screening area when a passenger’s Xbox set off an alarm. Officers diverted the bag for a search. Supervisory officer Christopher Ramos reportedly found a plastic bag containing “several fake IDs.” He described licenses with different dates of birth and class types but the same photograph; some appeared to use a photograph of musician Tyler, the Creator.
According to the report, Ramos contacted a TSA manager, the LaGuardia TSA Coordination Center, Port Authority Police and a TSA inspector. Port Authority Police reportedly confirmed the IDs were fraudulent. The passenger was located and arrested shortly before boarding. The report does not name the passenger or state any charges or later legal outcome. Yahoo News Malaysia’s report, republishing PEOPLE, attributes the account to a TSA press release.
Why did the Xbox set off the alarm?
The report does not identify the Xbox model or explain the technical reason the bag alarmed. TSA’s general guidance says an item may receive additional screening if it triggers an alarm, appears tampered with or raises a security concern, even when that item is generally permitted. That guidance does not establish that Xbox consoles are prohibited or explain this specific alarm. TSA’s travel tips describe the general screening process.

What does the report establish about the fake IDs?
It says officers found several suspected fake IDs and that Port Authority Police confirmed them as fraudulent. The account does not establish why the passenger had them, how they were intended to be used, or what happened in the case after the reported arrest. Those details should not be inferred from the discovery alone.
What identification do adult travelers need at a TSA checkpoint?
TSA says travelers aged 18 and older must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint and lists acceptable forms. That requirement provides general travel context; it does not establish the passenger’s motive or intended use for the IDs. See TSA’s list of acceptable identification.
