A call that ends at about eight hours may have hit a duration limit set by the carrier or calling service. T-Mobile says calls dropping after eight hours is normal for its service, and Google Meet allows dial-in calls for up to eight hours. Neither example means every phone call has a universal eight-hour limit.

Why might a call end at eight hours?

Some carriers and calling services impose maximum call durations. T-Mobile’s dropped-call guidance describes calls ending after eight hours as normal on its service. Google says Meet dial-in calls can last up to eight hours, though carrier restrictions may shorten that maximum.

Limits vary: HONOR notes that a carrier may set a maximum of one or two hours, for example. That is an example of variation, not a rule for all providers. Your carrier or calling-service provider can confirm the limit that applies to your account and call type.

How can you tell a duration limit from a dropped call?

Clue Possible provider or service limit Possible coverage, device, or network problem
When the call ends Repeatedly at nearly the same elapsed time Timing varies, perhaps with location, signal, or device condition
Best first check Ask the carrier or calling-service provider about a maximum duration Check whether shorter calls also drop, then review coverage, device, and SIM guidance
What the evidence supports T-Mobile and Google document limits for their respective services HONOR, Samsung, and ITU-T describe technical causes such as poor coverage, SIM or terminal issues, handover failures, and network-link problems
What not to assume That every carrier has an eight-hour rule That every long call ending is a handset fault

A repeatable cutoff is a useful clue, not proof of a provider limit. Technical problems can also interrupt calls.

What should you do when a call ends?

  1. Record the elapsed time. Note whether several calls end at roughly the same duration, and whether shorter calls disconnect too.
  2. Identify how the call was placed. Distinguish ordinary cellular voice from Wi-Fi calling, an app call, or a service dial-in number; the applicable limit may depend on the service.
  3. Ask the provider if the cutoff repeats. Contact the carrier or calling-service provider and ask whether a duration limit applies to your account, plan, network, or dial-in feature. For a Google Meet dial-in call that ends after eight hours, Google’s guidance is to dial back into the meeting.
  4. Investigate technical causes if timing varies. Check for local coverage problems and follow the phone maker’s guidance for software, phone-app, and SIM issues. HONOR and Samsung both publish troubleshooting for interrupted calls and network signal problems.

Can VoLTE cause an eight-hour cutoff?

VoLTE carries voice over LTE. Verizon’s HD Voice FAQs describe VoLTE calls over its 4G LTE network, but that explains the transport technology; it does not establish VoLTE as the cause of an eight-hour cutoff.

For calls that end unpredictably or much sooner, technical causes can include terminal bugs, poor coverage, handover or SRVCC failures, radio-link drops, and network-link or signaling problems. These categories are described in ITU-T Recommendation G.1028, published in June 2019. It is general technical context, not current carrier-policy guidance.

Will changing phones or accessories prevent the cutoff?

There is no evidence here that changing phones, using a headset, or enabling an accessory can bypass a limit enforced by a carrier or calling service. If the cutoff occurs at a consistent duration, confirm the provider’s policy first; if calls drop at varying times, investigate coverage, device, SIM, or network issues.
