Ampere announced its original AmpereOne processor family on May 18, 2023, with up to 192 single-threaded custom cores, eight channels of DDR5 memory and 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes. The company’s product brief identifies the 192-core model as the A192-32X. These are Ampere’s specifications, not independent performance-test results.
How many cores does the original AmpereOne have?
Ampere’s May 18, 2023 launch announcement described the original family as offering up to 192 single-threaded custom cores. The company’s product brief names the A192-32X as the 192-core model. The figure is the family maximum, not a core count for every AmpereOne SKU.
Ampere described the processors as single-threaded. That distinction matters when comparing core counts with CPUs whose cores support multiple hardware threads: a core count alone does not establish equivalent throughput.
Does AmpereOne use DDR5?
Yes. The original AmpereOne family has eight DDR5 memory channels. Ampere’s product brief lists memory speeds of up to 5200 MT/s; that is a vendor specification, and the brief’s publication date is not stated. Supported memory speed and capacity in a working server depend on the specific system configuration.

- CEB (12" x 10.5")
- Supports AmpereOne family Processors
- 8 DIMM slots (1DPC); Support RDIMM, RDIMM-3DS
- 6 FL PCIe5.0 x16
- 2 MCIO (PCIe5.0 x8)
For a purchase or upgrade, check the server or motherboard documentation for supported DIMM types, capacity, and population rules. The family-level DDR5 specification does not establish that every DDR5 module will work in every AmpereOne system.
How many PCIe Gen5 lanes does AmpereOne support?
Ampere lists 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes for the original family. Its launch materials say a single-socket system can use those lanes to support up to eight x16 devices. That describes potential lane connectivity; the actual slots, devices, and lane allocation available to a user depend on the server design.

Original AmpereOne versus AmpereOne M
AmpereOne M is a distinct, later family. Ampere’s current processor page describes AmpereOne M with 12 DDR5 channels. That specification should not be applied to the original AmpereOne family, whose launch materials describe eight channels. Confirm the exact family and SKU when reading specifications or selecting a platform.

The core, memory-channel, and PCIe figures describe Ampere’s announced product capabilities. They do not, by themselves, show how AmpereOne performs against another server CPU in a particular workload. Ampere’s launch announcement includes company positioning, including CEO Renée James’s statement, “We cannot continue to use power as a proxy for performance in the data center.” That is her launch statement, not an independently verified comparative result.

A meaningful server comparison should account for the workload and configuration, including:
- Core and thread model, rather than core count alone.
- Memory channels, supported DIMM type and speed, and usable capacity.
- PCIe generation and the lanes actually exposed by the system.
- Power and cooling requirements.
- Independent benchmarks for the workloads that matter and the cost of the complete platform.
The cited launch and product materials do not establish independent cross-vendor benchmark results, current street prices, current server inventory, or DIMM compatibility for every AmpereOne board.
