Supermicro is the clearest documented example of a U.S.-based company with motherboard design activity. It is headquartered in San Jose, California, and identifies engineering and manufacturing operations in the United States. However, Supermicro also designs and manufactures products in Taiwan and the Netherlands, so an American headquarters does not prove that a particular motherboard was made in the United States.
To answer this question accurately, separate three ideas: where the company is based, where the board was designed, and where the specific board was manufactured.
What counts as an American motherboard manufacturer?
“American motherboard manufacturer” can describe different situations:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- U.S.-headquartered company: the corporation’s headquarters are in the United States.
- U.S. design and engineering: motherboard architecture or development work is performed by a U.S.-based team.
- U.S.-made product: the exact motherboard model or system was manufactured in the United States.
These categories overlap, but none automatically proves the others. A U.S. company can use overseas factories, and a board designed in the United States can be assembled elsewhere. Country-of-origin claims therefore need to be checked at the model or SKU level.

Supermicro: the strongest documented U.S.-based example
Company base and engineering
Super Micro Computer, Inc. (Supermicro) maintains its worldwide headquarters in San Jose, California. Its company overview describes U.S.-based engineering and manufacturing, while its fiscal 2025 Form 10-K identifies expertise in motherboard, power, and chassis design.
Why its boards are not automatically U.S.-made
Supermicro’s FY2025 filing, covering the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025, says products are designed and manufactured in-house across the United States, Taiwan, and the Netherlands. That international footprint means the company’s nationality and headquarters location cannot be used as a blanket country-of-manufacture label for every motherboard.

Evidence for specific U.S.-manufactured systems
Supermicro’s U.S.-made product brief names the server systems SYS-420GP-TNAR+-US and SYS-220BT-HNC8R-US. The brief describes a manufacturing process using vetted U.S. personnel. These are complete server systems, however; the statement does not certify every motherboard sold by Supermicro, nor does it establish that every board installed in those systems is separately sold as a U.S.-made motherboard.
How Supermicro compares with ASRock
ASRock is useful as a contrast, not as an American-manufacturer example. Its 2024 annual report describes the company’s core business as designing, developing, and selling PC motherboards. It also says the products are manufactured by professional foundries. The reviewed report does not establish U.S. headquarters or U.S. manufacturing for those boards.

| Company | Headquarters evidence | Motherboard design or development | Manufacturing evidence | What can safely be concluded |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supermicro | Worldwide headquarters in San Jose, California, according to its FY2025 Form 10-K | Motherboard design expertise identified in the filing | In-house production across the United States, Taiwan, and the Netherlands; two named U.S.-made server systems are documented separately | Strongest documented U.S.-based motherboard company in the reviewed evidence, but not proof that every SKU is U.S.-made |
| ASRock | U.S. headquarters not established by the cited 2024 annual report | PC motherboard design and development are core activities | Products are manufactured by professional foundries; U.S. origin for particular boards is not established | Motherboard maker, but not evidenced here as an American manufacturer |
How to verify whether a motherboard is actually made in the USA
- Identify the exact model and revision. Country of origin can differ among product families, revisions, or production runs.
- Check the manufacturer’s model-specific documentation. Look for an explicit manufacturing-origin statement, not just a U.S. address or “American company” wording.
- Distinguish a system claim from a board claim. A statement about a complete server does not automatically apply to its removable motherboard.
- Check the date and market. Manufacturing arrangements can change, and documentation may apply only to a particular region or period.
- Ask the seller or manufacturer for written confirmation. Verify the board’s socket, chipset, CPU-generation support, form factor, and country of manufacture together before ordering.
What this means for buyers
If you want a U.S.-based supplier
Supermicro is the best-supported starting point in the available evidence, especially for server and workstation hardware. Its U.S. headquarters and documented motherboard design capability are clear, but you should still verify the manufacturing origin of the exact board.
If you require U.S. manufacturing
Do not rely on the company name, a California headquarters, or a “designed in the USA” description. Require model-specific documentation. The cited Supermicro brief supports U.S. manufacturing claims for SYS-420GP-TNAR+-US and SYS-220BT-HNC8R-US server systems, not a general claim covering all Supermicro motherboards.

- AMD Socket AM4: Ready to support AMD Ryzen 5000/4000/3000 Series Processors
- Enhanced Power Solution: Digital 3+3 VRM Design and premium chokes and capacitors for steady power delivery.
- Advanced Thermal Armor: Chipset heatsinks for better heat dissipation.
- Boost Your Memory: Compatible with DDR4 and supports 4 DIMMS with Extreme Memory Profile support.
- Comprehensive Connectivity: 1x Ultra Durable PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, 1x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot, 1x PCIe 3.0 M.2 slot, 4x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for hassle-free setup.
If you are shopping for a conventional desktop board
Confirm whether the listing is for a standalone motherboard or a complete system. The available evidence is strongest for Supermicro’s server-oriented products and does not establish a comprehensive list of U.S.-manufactured consumer desktop boards.

Is there a complete list of American motherboard manufacturers?
Not from the evidence available here. It supports Supermicro as a clearly documented U.S.-based company with motherboard design activity and identifies ASRock as a motherboard company whose manufacturing is handled by foundries, but it does not establish an exhaustive, consistently verified industry roster. Any broader list should verify each company’s headquarters, board-design activity, and exact model-level manufacturing origin from current primary documents.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Supermicro is the clearest evidenced American motherboard company, but “American company” is not the same as “every motherboard made in the USA.” Treat headquarters, design location, and product manufacturing origin as separate facts and verify the exact SKU.
