American Airlines plans to begin installing Starlink Wi-Fi on its entire mainline fleet in early 2027. The airline lists 1,030 mainline aircraft in the plan, but it has not announced when installations will be complete. The announcement does not include regional aircraft.
When will American Airlines start installing Starlink?
American announced the expanded plan on October 8, 2026. Installations are scheduled to begin in early 2027; the airline has not provided a completion date, a per-aircraft schedule, or a commitment that the work will finish during 2027. American’s announcement is a plan, not confirmation that Starlink is already operating on its flights.
Which American Airlines planes are included?
The plan covers American’s mainline Airbus and Boeing narrowbody and widebody aircraft. The fleet counts below are figures published by American in 2026:

What about American Eagle regional flights?
The announcement addresses the mainline fleet and does not say whether American Eagle regional aircraft will receive Starlink. It is not evidence that regional flights are included or excluded from any future plan.
What Starlink service has American described?
American says the aircraft will use Starlink’s Performance Aero Terminal, which the airline describes as capable of up to 1 Gbps per terminal. That is a stated equipment capability, not a promised passenger speed: the announcement does not establish the speed an individual will experience, the bandwidth available to passengers on a particular flight, or consistent performance across routes.

The airline names streaming, gaming, collaboration, browsing, and messaging as intended uses. These are the company’s descriptions of what passengers may do, not independently measured results from American flights equipped with the service.

In May 2026, American announced a narrower plan to install Starlink on more than 500 Airbus aircraft, with installations beginning in the first quarter of 2027. The October announcement expands the scope to the full mainline fleet, adding Boeing narrowbodies and widebodies to the stated plan. Neither announcement supplies a final completion date. The May announcement records the earlier scope.

Is Starlink already available on American flights?
No availability date beyond the planned start of installation has been announced. American’s current onboard Wi-Fi information describes existing service and should not be read as confirmation that the newly announced Starlink rollout has started. The airline has not provided a Starlink-specific passenger price or access policy in the announcement. It also does not identify any passenger-purchased hardware needed to use the planned airline service.
