AMD’s Ryzen AI PRO 300 is a family of Zen 5 business-laptop processors announced in October 2024, with an XDNA 2 neural processing unit (NPU) rated at up to 55 peak TOPS in the top listed model. AMD later added two more models in its CES 2025 portfolio update. The headline AI figure describes peak hardware throughput—not how fast every AI app will run—and the family’s business features and supported uses depend on the complete laptop and its software.
What AMD announced—and when
AMD introduced Ryzen AI PRO 300 on October 10, 2024, as a commercial PC processor family combining Zen 5 CPU cores, Radeon integrated graphics and an XDNA 2 NPU. The initial lineup comprised the Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 375, Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 and Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360. AMD positioned them for what it calls “Copilot+ enterprise PCs.” AMD’s launch announcement
At CES 2025, AMD expanded the commercial lineup with the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 350 and Ryzen AI 5 PRO 340. The company said these models are designed to support the next generation of Microsoft Copilot+ experiences and include AMD PRO Technologies for security and manageability. Ryzen AI PRO 300 model specifications
AMD’s published specifications distinguish the top model with up to 55 peak NPU TOPS; the other four listed models are rated at 50 TOPS. CPU boost frequencies are maximum figures, not guarantees of sustained clock speed in every laptop.

What the TOPS number does—and does not—tell you
TOPS means trillion operations per second. AMD presents 55 TOPS for the HX PRO 375 as peak NPU throughput under an optimal scenario, and notes that it may not be typical. Results can vary with the laptop configuration, AI model and software version. It is a capability figure for one part of the processor, not a direct measure of application speed, battery life or business productivity. AMD’s specification qualifications

An NPU can accelerate supported AI workloads locally, but the software must be built to use it. AMD’s examples include CyberLink PowerDirector using the NPU for real-time scene detection, subject isolation and dynamic effect placement, as well as categories such as video-call improvements and workflow automation. These are vendor examples, not a promise that every application or feature uses the NPU. AMD also says Ryzen AI feature enablement depends on OEM and software-vendor support, some features may not yet be optimized, and capabilities vary by laptop configuration. What PRO adds for business laptops
AMD PRO refers to security and manageability capabilities intended for commercial deployments, including AMD Security Processor features and management tooling. Those are platform capabilities described by AMD; a particular feature’s availability or configuration depends on the laptop and the organization’s software and policies. PRO branding alone does not establish that every function is enabled in every deployment. AMD’s CES 2025 announcement · AMD’s Ryzen business laptop information

How to read AMD’s performance comparisons
AMD said the HX PRO 375 delivered up to 40% higher CPU performance and up to 14% faster productivity performance than Intel Core Ultra 7 165U/H comparison systems. These are AMD lab claims, not independent head-to-head results. The 40% figure came from a September 2024 Cinebench R24 nT test in Best Performance mode: an HP EliteBook X G1a with the HX PRO 375 at 40W was compared with a Dell Latitude 7450 using a Core Ultra 7 165H at 28W. For the 14% productivity claim, AMD used office productivity workloads across systems with different processors, memory and power settings. AMD also cautions that laptop makers can vary configurations and results. AMD’s launch announcement and test notes
Those comparisons give context for AMD’s positioning, but they do not establish how every retail laptop will perform. For a purchase decision, compare complete systems using the same relevant workloads and consider their power limits, cooling and configuration—not only the processor name or advertised peak figures.

Which laptops use these processors?
Ryzen AI PRO 300 processors are intended for complete commercial laptops rather than a routine standalone upgrade. AMD named the HP EliteBook X G1a and Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 among systems associated with the processors; that does not confirm current stock or the exact processor configuration in every regional listing. Check the manufacturer’s product page or retailer listing before buying, and verify the model number, processor, memory and AI features for the specific unit.

Where the family sits now
Ryzen AI PRO 300 is not AMD’s newest numbered PRO processor family: AMD announced Ryzen AI PRO 400 as part of its CES 2026 portfolio. The available announcements do not provide an independent, comparable performance or value assessment between the 300 and 400 families, so the newer number alone is not enough to conclude that a particular 300-series laptop is slower, obsolete or a better deal. AMD’s CES 2026 announcement
AMD describes the broader strategy in terms of expanding AI capabilities across devices. At CES 2025, Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, said: “With the next generation of AI-enabled processors, we are proliferating AI to devices everywhere, and bringing the power of a workstation to thin and light laptops.” That is AMD’s perspective on the category, not an independent performance finding.
