AMD’s GAAP net income rose 476% year over year to $709 million in the first quarter of 2025, from $123 million in Q1 2024. The increase was specific to the GAAP measure: non-GAAP net income grew 55% to $1.566 billion. AMD announced the results on May 6, 2025; the headline does not describe its latest reported first quarter as of October 4, 2026.
What did AMD report for Q1 2025?
For the quarter ended March 29, 2025, AMD reported $7.438 billion in revenue, up 36% from $5.473 billion a year earlier. GAAP gross margin was 50%, compared with 47% in Q1 2024. GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.44, versus $0.07, an increase of 529%.
GAAP operating income reached $806 million, compared with $36 million a year earlier. The reported 2,139% increase is striking in part because the prior-year comparison base was small. The results were reported by AMD on May 6, 2025.

It was GAAP net income that more than quadrupled. AMD reported a separate non-GAAP net income figure of $1.566 billion, up 55% from $1.013 billion. Non-GAAP diluted EPS increased 55%, to $0.96 from $0.62.

- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz
- Drop-in ready for proven Socket AM5 infrastructure
- Cooler not included
These are distinct accounting measures, not competing versions of the same headline. AMD says its non-GAAP measures supplement rather than replace GAAP results. The “more than quadruples” description applies to GAAP net income, not non-GAAP net income.
How much of the increase was year over year versus quarter over quarter?
The 476% net-income increase compares Q1 2025 with Q1 2024. Against the immediately preceding quarter, Q4 2024, GAAP net income rose 47%, from $482 million to $709 million. Revenue moved in the opposite direction sequentially: it fell 3%, from $7.658 billion in Q4 2024 to $7.438 billion in Q1 2025.

Keeping the comparison periods separate matters: AMD’s large year-over-year profit gain does not mean revenue increased from the previous quarter.

| Segment | Q1 2025 revenue | Year-over-year change | Reported context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Center | $3.7 billion | Up 57% | Primarily driven by EPYC CPU and Instinct GPU sales |
| Client and Gaming combined | $2.9 billion | Up 28% | Client growth outweighed the decline in Gaming |
| Client | $2.3 billion | Up 68% | Demand for Ryzen processors |
| Gaming | $647 million | Down 30% | Semi-custom revenue declined |
| Embedded | $823 million | Down 3% | Revenue declined year over year |
AMD attributed Data Center growth primarily to EPYC CPU and Instinct GPU sales, while Client revenue benefited from demand for Ryzen processors. Gaming fell as semi-custom revenue declined, and Embedded revenue was also lower. These segment results show areas of strength and contraction, but AMD’s earnings materials do not establish that any one segment alone caused the overall net-income increase.

No. It refers to AMD’s Q1 2025 result, not its most recently reported first-quarter comparison. In Q1 2026, AMD reported GAAP net income of $1.383 billion, up 95% year over year from $709 million; non-GAAP net income was $2.265 billion, up 45%. Revenue was $10.253 billion, up 38%. Those figures are in AMD’s Q1 2026 results. The quadrupling claim belongs specifically to Q1 2025.
