AMD’s Zen 6 desktop Ryzen family, reportedly codenamed Olympic Ridge, could span 6 to 24 cores, according to configurations attributed to leaker HXL. Those core counts remain unconfirmed. Separate reports say AMD documentation lists Olympic Ridge under AM5, but that does not confirm the rumored specifications or guarantee support on every AM5 motherboard.

What core counts are rumored for Olympic Ridge?

On February 19, 2026, ComputerBase reported HXL’s proposed configurations: four single-CCD options and three dual-CCD options. A CCD is a core-complex die; the reported totals for two-CCD chips are the sum of the cores on each die.

Configuration reported by HXL Rumored total Status
One CCD with 6 cores 6 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
One CCD with 8 cores 8 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
One CCD with 10 cores 10 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
One CCD with 12 cores 12 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
Two CCDs with 8 cores each 16 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
Two CCDs with 10 cores each 20 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026
Two CCDs with 12 cores each 24 cores Unconfirmed rumor reported by ComputerBase, February 19, 2026

The proposed change is a CCD with as many as 12 cores, compared with the 8-core-per-CCD layout described for the current Ryzen generation in coverage of the rumor. The 24-core maximum would therefore be a reported configuration, not a confirmed retail model or evidence of a particular performance gain.

How does the rumor compare with current Ryzen?

ComputerBase used AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X as a 16-core Ryzen 9000 comparison point. Against that example, the rumored 24-core Olympic Ridge configuration would have eight more cores on paper. That is a core-count comparison only: no benchmark results establish how Olympic Ridge would perform in games, creative applications, or other workloads.

Is Olympic Ridge expected to use AM5?

Reports published in August 2026 say AMD documentation lists Olympic Ridge among desktop Ryzen families for AM5. TechSpot and ComputerBase both reported the listing. It supports the expectation of an AM5 platform, but AMD had not formally announced Zen 6 or confirmed the socket in a product announcement in those reports.

AM5 is a socket designation, not a promise that every AM5 board will support a future CPU. Motherboard makers determine support through their model-specific CPU lists and BIOS releases. Hardware Busters explains why socket compatibility does not by itself establish BIOS support or memory behavior: its AM5 platform coverage.

What is known about the cache and launch timing?

ComputerBase’s February 19, 2026 report also attributed 48 MB of L3 cache to each proposed CCD, implying 96 MB across two CCDs. These are unverified rumor figures, not specifications confirmed by AMD. The reviewed reports establish no retail price, final model names, benchmark results, or AMD-confirmed launch date.

ComputerBase reported that desktop Zen 6 processors were then expected the following year. That was a dated expectation in its August 27, 2026 coverage, not a launch date announced by AMD: ComputerBase’s AM5 report.

What should AM5 motherboard owners check?

If you are planning an upgrade, use the exact motherboard model—not just the socket name—to assess future compatibility.

  1. Find the complete model name and hardware revision printed on the board or shown in its firmware or vendor utility.
  2. Open the manufacturer’s CPU-support page for that exact model and revision; check whether Olympic Ridge is listed when the manufacturer publishes support information.
  3. Check the required BIOS version and the vendor’s instructions for installing it. Do not assume a board supports a processor merely because both use AM5.
  4. Review the board maker’s memory guidance for the specific CPU and memory kit before expecting a particular speed or configuration.

Until vendors publish board-specific support information, the reported AM5 listing is useful for platform expectations but not enough to establish whether a particular motherboard will work.
