The $499 Ryzen 9 7950X3D offer behind this headline was reported by HotHardware on June 10, 2024—not a verified deal for October 8, 2026. HotHardware called it the processor’s lowest price at the time, compared with its $699 launch MSRP. Price trackers now show different historical lows, so there is no well-supported universal “lowest ever” figure. Here’s what the old deal included, what the processor offers, and how to assess a price you find today.
What the original gaming CPU deals were
On June 10, 2024, Paul Lilly’s HotHardware article reported the following prices. They are historical figures from that date, not current offers.
| Processor or bundle | Price reported June 10, 2024 | Context in HotHardware’s report |
|---|---|---|
| AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D | $499 | Amazon offer; described as its cheapest price to date against a $699 launch MSRP. |
| AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D | $329 | Described as an all-time low. |
| AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | $339.99 | Processor offer. |
| AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D | $323.73 | Processor offer. |
| AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | $199.98 | Processor offer. |
| Ryzen 7 5800X3D plus MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus motherboard | $399.98 | CPU and motherboard bundle. |
HotHardware connected the discounts to AMD’s announced Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 generation, which was expected the following month. That is historical context, not evidence that a new-generation announcement will reliably cause prices to fall in the same way.

That depends on the retailer coverage and tracking period. HotHardware’s “cheapest price to date” claim referred to the $499 Amazon offer reported on June 10, 2024. It should not be treated as a universal all-retailer price record.

- Cooler not included, liquid cooler recommended
As of October 7, 2026, TechSpot reported a current price of $569 and a tracked low of $569 on October 2, 2026. Other tracking sources list different lows, including $399 records, while Tom’s Hardware’s CPU Price Index showed a $472 lowest-ever figure. Because these services do not share identical retailer coverage or tracking windows, their figures cannot establish one definitive all-time low. See TechSpot’s price report and Tom’s Hardware’s CPU Price Index for their respective figures and scope.
For a purchase decision, check the live listing, seller, stock, and price history for the retailer you can actually buy from. Treat a tracker’s low as a record within that tracker’s coverage, not proof that no retailer has ever charged less.

What the Ryzen 9 7950X3D offers
AMD’s official specifications identify the Ryzen 9 7950X3D as a Zen 4 desktop CPU for the AM5 socket. It has 16 cores and 32 threads, a 4.2 GHz base clock, boost clock up to 5.7 GHz, 128 MB of L3 cache, and a 120 W default TDP. It supports DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0. These are manufacturer specifications, not comparative gaming benchmark results; they do not establish how it performs against the other processors in the 2024 deal list. AMD’s product specifications provide the official details.
AMD says the thermal solution is not included and recommends a liquid cooler for optimal performance. Include a suitable cooler in your build budget if you do not already have one.

Compare total platform cost, not just CPU price
The 2024 list spans two platforms. Ryzen 7000 processors such as the 7950X3D, 7900X3D, and 7800X3D use AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory. The Ryzen 5000 options, including the 5800X3D and 5700X3D, use AM4 motherboards and DDR4 memory. A lower CPU price may not mean a lower total cost if you also need a motherboard, memory, or cooler. Conversely, an existing compatible system can make an upgrade much cheaper than a full build.
- Upgrading an existing PC: Confirm the motherboard socket and memory type before choosing a processor; the platform change can outweigh a CPU discount.
- Building from scratch: Compare the complete platform bill, including motherboard, memory, and cooling, rather than comparing processor prices alone.
- Gaming and other demanding work: Consider whether you need the 7950X3D’s 16 cores and 32 threads for mixed workloads, alongside its gaming-focused cache configuration. The available sources do not provide a same-date, independently controlled benchmark set for ranking these CPUs.
How to judge a deal you find now
- Verify the current price and stock at the retailer, and check that the listing is for the exact Ryzen model you intend to buy.
- Check the price tracker’s date, retailer coverage, and tracking window before interpreting a claimed “low” or “record.”
- Add the cost of any required AM5 motherboard, DDR5 memory, and cooler for a 7950X3D build—or the compatible AM4 and DDR4 parts for a Ryzen 5000 option.
- Choose based on your workload and total system cost. Do not infer a performance ranking from the historical prices or AMD’s specifications alone.
