AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT launched with two configurations: an 8GB model with a $299 U.S. suggested entry price and a 16GB model with a $349 suggested entry price. Both have 32 RDNA 4 compute units and boost clocks of up to 3.13GHz. For most buyers targeting demanding 1440p gaming, the 16GB card is the safer pick; the 8GB version is a lower-cost option if keeping the purchase price down matters more than memory headroom.

What AMD announced

At Computex 2025, AMD introduced the Radeon RX 9060 XT in 8GB and 16GB GDDR6 configurations. The two versions share 32 RDNA 4 compute units, a 128-bit memory interface and a boost clock of up to 3.13GHz. AMD’s stated suggested entry prices are $299 for 8GB and $349 for 16GB in the United States. These are launch suggested prices, not a guarantee of current retail price or stock. AMD’s announcement positions the card for 1440p gaming and highlights FSR 4, HYPR-RX, Fluid Motion Frames and second-generation AI accelerators.

Is the 16GB model worth $50 more?

For a 50-dollar increase at the announced suggested prices, the 16GB version doubles the memory capacity. That extra VRAM gives demanding games and high-resolution textures more room, making it the more sensible configuration for a card AMD markets for 1440p. It is also the less risky choice if you expect to keep the card for several years and want to avoid memory capacity becoming an early limitation.

Independent testing supports treating the two capacities as meaningfully different buying choices, rather than assuming the 8GB model is simply the same card for less. Tom’s Hardware’s 10 June 2025 review described the 16GB card as a strong value with ample VRAM and cautioned readers about the 8GB model. Its review reported 8GB cards around $299 and 16GB cards starting around $389 at the time, so the 16GB street price then exceeded AMD’s $349 suggested entry price. Those are historical observations, not current prices. Tom’s Hardware’s review is useful context, but actual value depends on the price available when you shop.

ASUS Dual Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 Gaming Graphics Card
  • Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
  • 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
  • Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
  • Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs

The 8GB version can still make sense when the budget is firm and you are comfortable choosing game settings with memory use in mind. If its price is close to the 16GB card’s actual retail price, the additional capacity is a stronger reason to choose the latter than the small difference in listed board power is to avoid it.

Can the RX 9060 XT run games at 1440p?

1440p is AMD’s intended target, but the experience depends on the game, settings and memory configuration. The 16GB card is the more appropriate option for demanding 1440p presets and texture-heavy titles. The 8GB model may require lower texture quality or other settings adjustments in games that exceed its available memory.

Ars Technica’s 4 June 2025 review found the RX 9060 XT generally ahead of Nvidia’s RTX 5060 by a small, consistent margin, while generally trailing the RTX 5060 Ti by 10–15%. It also found the 16GB RX 9060 XT usually 40–60% faster than a 2021 RTX 3060 in its tests. These are the publication’s review results, not a promise of performance in every game or system. AMD promotes FSR 4, HYPR-RX and Fluid Motion Frames as part of the card’s feature set. Upscaling and frame-generation features can affect perceived smoothness, but they do not make the 8GB and 16GB configurations interchangeable: available VRAM still matters when a game’s assets and settings demand more memory.

How does it compare with the RTX 5060 Ti?

In Ars Technica’s review testing, the RX 9060 XT generally fell 10–15% behind the RTX 5060 Ti. That comparison is a useful broad performance guide, not a universal result: relative performance can change by game, settings and graphics features. The same review put the RX 9060 XT slightly ahead of the less expensive-positioned RTX 5060 in its tested games.

Choose based on the specific card prices and the games and features you care about, rather than treating a single performance gap as decisive. The cited review evidence establishes raster-performance comparisons, but does not provide a complete head-to-head verdict for every ray-tracing workload or upscaling mode. The 9060 XT’s support for AMD features such as FSR 4 is relevant if those features are available in the games you play.
