AMD’s Genoa-X EPYC server processors can offer up to 1,152 MB (1.152 GB) of L3 cache per CPU, while the desktop Ryzen 9 7950X3D has 128 MB. Both use AMD 3D V-Cache, but the 7950X3D is a consumer Zen 4 reference point—not a processor with more than 1 GB of cache.
How much L3 cache does Genoa-X have?
AMD’s EPYC 9004 technical material gives 3D V-Cache-enabled processors a maximum of 1,152 MB of L3 cache per CPU. AMD’s Hot Chips Genoa-X presentation rounds that capacity to 1.15 GB per socket. These figures describe the same approximate capacity: 1,152 MB is 1.152 GB using decimal units, or about 1.15 GB when rounded.
The wording matters: this is a maximum for Genoa-X, not a claim that every EPYC 9004 processor has that amount. It is also cache capacity per CPU/socket, not a combined total for an entire multi-processor server.

The 7950X3D helps illustrate AMD’s use of 3D V-Cache in a consumer processor, but the over-1-GB figure belongs to Genoa-X. The two products use the same broad cache-stacking approach at different scales and in different processor platforms.

What 3D V-Cache changes
AMD’s 3D V-Cache is stacked-cache technology that increases L3 capacity. In the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, it brings L3 cache to 128 MB. In Genoa-X, AMD applies the same broad approach across a much larger multi-die EPYC server package, reaching about 1.15 GB per socket.

A larger cache can be relevant when a workload benefits from keeping more data close to the processor. But cache capacity alone does not establish how quickly a particular application will run. Results depend on the workload, software and complete system, among other factors.

Choose the 7950X3D for a desktop system
The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is an AM5 desktop processor aimed at enthusiast PCs. AMD lists it as globally available and recommends liquid cooling for optimal operation. Its consumer platform and gaming and creator positioning make it a different kind of purchase from an EPYC server deployment.

Consider Genoa-X for cache-sensitive server work
Genoa-X targets server workloads such as HPC, databases and technical computing, and requires server-class SP5 infrastructure. A system decision therefore involves more than the cache figure: platform compatibility, workload behavior, memory and I/O needs, cooling, and total system cost all matter.
The cited AMD technical material establishes Genoa-X’s maximum cache capacity, but does not establish a current price or partner availability. Those details should be confirmed for the specific system and market rather than inferred from the cache specification.

Does 1.15 GB of cache make Genoa-X a gaming processor?
No. The cache figure is a server specification, not evidence that Genoa-X is a suitable or faster gaming choice. AMD positions the 7950X3D for enthusiast desktop use, while Genoa-X is intended for server-class workloads and infrastructure. More L3 cache by itself is not a gaming-performance comparison.
