AMD has announced a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The deal had not closed when AMD announced it on September 28, 2026; the company expected completion by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
What is World Labs?
World Labs is an AI company whose work, as described by AMD, centers on spatial intelligence: models that generate, reconstruct and simulate interactive 3D environments from text, image and video inputs. AMD also says the company develops technology for robotic learning and simulation.
Those are descriptions in AMD’s announcement, not independent validation of the models’ capabilities.

AMD says bringing model researchers into the company could help it understand how AI workloads are changing and inform the hardware, software and systems it builds for them. The proposed link is between research into emerging models and the computing infrastructure those models may need; AMD has not established that the acquisition will produce particular technical or financial benefits.
