AMD and Meta announced a multi-year agreement on February 24, 2026, to deploy up to six gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPU infrastructure. That is the planned scale of the partnership—not six gigawatts of equipment already installed. AMD said shipments for the first gigawatt were scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
What does the AMD–Meta deal include?
The agreement is a multi-year, multi-generation partnership that aligns AMD’s chips, rack systems, and software with Meta’s AI infrastructure plans. AMD describes it as an extension of an existing relationship. The six-gigawatt figure refers to the planned scale of GPU deployments; AMD’s announcement does not say that the full amount has shipped or been installed. AMD’s February 24 announcement calls for up to six gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs.
AMD said Meta had already deployed millions of AMD EPYC CPUs and significant quantities of MI300- and MI350-series GPUs across its infrastructure. Those installed-base figures are AMD-reported, not independently audited. AMD’s announcement does not provide a separate independently verified deployment total.

What hardware and software are planned?
The first deployment is expected to combine custom accelerators and server infrastructure rather than consist of standalone graphics cards. AMD identified these components:
#1 Best Overall
- NVIDIA Volta GV100 Architecture — 4,608 CUDA Cores, 640 1st-Gen Tensor Cores delivering 14 TFLOPS FP32 and 112 TFLOPS deep learning performance for AI training, inference, HPC, and scientific computing workloads
- 32GB HBM2 ECC Memory — 900 GB/s Bandwidth — High-bandwidth memory on a 4096-bit bus with ECC error correction provides the memory capacity and throughput required for the largest AI models, simulations, and datasets
- PCIe 3.0 x16 Interface — 250W TDP — Standard PCIe Gen3 connectivity with passive cooling designed for enterprise rack server deployment in HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge, and Supermicro platforms with adequate chassis airflow
- NVLink — Scale to 96GB Unified Memory — Connect two V100 GPUs via NVLink at 300 GB/s bi-directional bandwidth to scale GPU memory from 32GB to 96GB for larger AI training and HPC workloads
- Multi-Precision Computing — Supports FP64 (7 TFLOPS), FP32 (14 TFLOPS), FP16 (112 TFLOPS) and INT8 precision modes for flexible deployment across training, inference, and scientific simulation workloads
- Custom AMD Instinct GPU based on MI450 architecture: designed and optimized for Meta workloads.
- 6th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs, codenamed “Venice”: server processors paired with the accelerators.
- AMD Helios rack-scale architecture: the system-level platform for integrating the hardware.
- ROCm: AMD’s software platform for the GPU systems.
AMD’s September 2026 account describes the work more broadly as co-engineering across Helios rack-scale solutions, EPYC CPUs, Instinct GPUs, Pensando networking, and ROCm. In a gigawatt-scale deployment, the design challenge includes coordinating compute, memory, networking, power, cooling, and software—not just selecting GPUs. AMD also described infrastructure progressing from MI300X to MI350X and toward the custom MI450-based GPU. These are AMD’s descriptions of the partnership and its development, not independent performance assessments. AMD’s September 2026 update outlines that wider system approach.
When will Meta receive the MI450-based systems?
AMD said shipments supporting the first gigawatt were scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. This is an announced schedule, not confirmation that shipments have started or that the systems have been deployed. The announcement gives no exact delivery calendar beyond that initial shipment window, and it does not establish when the full six-gigawatt scale might be reached. AMD’s release identifies the first-gigawatt timing as an expectation and includes forward-looking-statement qualifications.

- Double Ball Bearing Fan - Delivers superior heat resistance and rotational efficiency for better performance and a longer lifespan compared to conventional sleeve fans.
Is the deal worth $100 billion?
The Associated Press reported that the agreement could potentially be worth more than $100 billion. That is a reported potential value, not a fixed contract price disclosed by AMD. AMD’s announcement describes the deployment scale and partnership terms but does not state a $100-billion contract value. The Associated Press report is the source for the potential valuation.

How many AMD shares could Meta receive?
AMD said it issued Meta a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million AMD common shares. The maximum is conditional, not an unconditional equity grant. The first tranche is tied to the initial one-gigawatt shipment milestone, while further tranches vest as Meta’s purchases scale toward six gigawatts. AMD also tied vesting to stock-price thresholds and exercise to technical and commercial milestones. AMD’s announcement sets out those conditions.

What the agreement does—and does not—establish
The announced partnership signals a planned, integrated AI infrastructure buildout using AMD technology, with deployments intended to span multiple generations. It does not establish a completed six-gigawatt installation, a final total number of GPUs, or independent performance results for Meta’s custom MI450-based system. AMD’s statements about future shipments and the deal’s expected business impact are forward-looking; actual delivery and financial outcomes may differ.
