AMD’s Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.10.2 release notes reported up to 18% better performance in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare than with driver 19.10.1. The stated result was for a Radeon RX 5700 XT using Ultra presets; it is a vendor-reported maximum, not a guaranteed gain for every PC. It is also a historical 2019 result—not a reason to install that old driver today.

What did AMD’s 18% performance claim measure?

AMD’s release-note wording, reproduced by Guru3D, says that with Ultra presets on a Radeon RX 5700 XT, players could achieve “up to 18% better performance” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with Adrenalin 19.10.2 than with Adrenalin 19.10.1. The figure is therefore tied to one named GPU, one preset, one game, and one driver-to-driver comparison.

“Up to” describes a maximum reported by AMD, not an 18% improvement every player should expect. No independent benchmark reproducing that result is established here, and the accessible AMD page did not preserve the original release-note text. Treat the number as AMD’s historical claim as reproduced by Guru3D, not an independently verified test result.

Does the result apply to every Modern Warfare player?

No. The claim does not establish the same uplift on other Radeon GPUs, graphics settings, or system configurations. Nor does it show how the game performs on current drivers. Performance varies with the GPU, CPU, settings, resolution, and other system factors; the release-note figure alone cannot predict a particular player’s frame rate.

Keep the title precise, too: the claim concerns the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, not Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, or Modern Warfare 4. Similar names do not make their driver support or performance claims interchangeable.

Which AMD driver should you use now?

Do not use 19.10.2 as current update advice. Activision’s PC video-card driver guidance lists Radeon Software 19.10.2 as the recommended AMD driver for the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but that listing is historical and may not reflect today’s support recommendations. The same article gives different AMD versions for other games, underscoring why you should check guidance for the exact title you play.

  1. Identify the exact Call of Duty game and your Radeon GPU.
  2. Check Activision’s current driver guidance for that game and AMD’s official support page for available drivers.
  3. For a laptop or all-in-one PC, check the computer maker’s support page as well. AMD notes that OEM drivers may be customized for system-specific features and compatibility.

AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 optional driver notes, last updated September 29, 2026, mention support for “Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 4 campaign early access.” That is a different game and does not validate the 2019 18% claim for the original Modern Warfare. Driver support can change, so consult the current manufacturer guidance before updating.
