AMD has completed its $665 million all-cash acquisition of Silo AI, adding an established AI research and engineering team as it builds software and services around its chips. AMD said the deal was intended to speed development and deployment of AI solutions on AMD hardware; it does not, by itself, establish a measurable gain in market share or revenue.

When did AMD acquire Silo AI, and how much did it pay?

AMD announced the agreement on July 10, 2024, and announced its completion on August 12. In its 2025 Form 10-K, filed February 4, 2026, AMD gives the closing date as August 9, 2024, and reports an all-cash purchase price of $665 million. AMD’s deal announcement and completion announcement establish the public timeline; the later filing supplies the accounting detail.

The filing also records $553 million in purchase consideration after closing adjustments, transaction costs and deferred cash compensation, and allocates $577 million to goodwill. These are purchase-accounting figures, not alternative headline prices: the $665 million remains AMD’s reported cash acquisition price. AMD says the goodwill was attributed to Silo AI’s workforce and the expected acceleration of AI solutions on AMD hardware. AMD SEC filings

What did Silo AI bring to AMD?

AMD described Silo AI as a Helsinki-based AI company operating in Europe and North America. Its work covered end-to-end AI solutions for customers’ products, services and operations, including tailored models, platforms and systems for cloud, embedded and endpoint computing. The acquisition therefore added people and applied AI expertise alongside technology, rather than simply a single model or product.

Why did AMD buy Silo AI?

AMD’s stated goal was to accelerate AI model and software development and help customers deploy AI solutions on AMD hardware. It presented Silo AI as part of an effort to offer end-to-end AI solutions based on open standards and partnerships, and said Silo AI’s team had experience building models on AMD platforms.

In a September 2024 TIME interview, AMD chair and CEO Lisa Su described the company’s approach as combining hardware, software and, in some cases, implementation services. She said acquisitions add talent and intellectual property alongside organic hiring and partnerships. That is management’s account of the strategy, not an independently measured result of this particular acquisition. TIME’s interview with Lisa Su

How might Silo AI help AMD compete in AI?

AI customers often need more than accelerators: they need models, software and help integrating systems into real products and operations. Silo AI’s model-building and implementation experience could help AMD make its hardware more useful to organizations seeking that broader package. This is the strategic logic AMD described, not proof that the acquisition narrowed a competitor’s lead or improved AMD’s market position.

  • For the advanced Socket AM4 platform

The acquisition represents one route to building capability: buying a specialist team, rather than relying only on internal hiring or partnerships. AMD’s public statements describe all three routes, but do not provide a like-for-like comparison of their cost, speed or outcomes. The deal’s impact on competition cannot be isolated from that evidence.

What does AMD disclose about Silo AI’s results since the acquisition?

AMD’s 2025 Form 10-K says Silo AI’s financial results since the acquisition were not material and were included primarily in the Data Center segment. The filing does not state a standalone Silo AI revenue contribution, so it does not support a precise estimate of the business’s post-acquisition sales or a conclusion about how much revenue the deal generated.
