Amazon’s September 2023 Fire TV announcement brought faster 4K streaming sticks and a generative-AI search feature designed to find shows and movies through natural conversation. In 2026, the clearest current update is Alexa+: Amazon says compatible Fire TV customers in the U.S. get it at no extra cost, with or without Prime. The 2023 hardware prices below are launch prices, not a statement of today’s retail pricing.
What Amazon announced for Fire TV
On September 20, 2023, Amazon announced the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, a refreshed Fire TV Stick 4K, conversational generative-AI search, updates to the Ambient Experience, and a Fire TV Soundbar. The AI search was intended to let viewers describe what they wanted in ordinary language, then refine recommendations in a back-and-forth conversation.
For example, a viewer could ask for action movies with car chases, comedies for a rainy day, or animated movies available free to watch. Amazon said the feature would roll out to U.S. customers later in 2023. Amazon’s later Alexa+ announcement describes a broader conversational experience on compatible Fire TV devices.

Fire TV Stick 4K vs. 4K Max: what is different?
The 4K Max is the higher-specification choice in Amazon’s 2023 lineup: it has a faster processor, Wi-Fi 6E, more storage, and access to the Ambient Experience. The standard 4K model is the lower-cost launch option for 4K streaming. The figures in this table are the specifications and prices Amazon announced at launch in September 2023; current prices can differ.

Which model should you choose?
Choose the 4K Max if you want the larger storage capacity, Wi-Fi 6E support, the higher stated processor speed, or Ambient Experience. Choose the 4K if your priority is 4K streaming at the lower of the two announced launch prices and Wi-Fi 6 is sufficient for your setup. The processor figures and Amazon’s “nearly 30% more power” comparison are manufacturer claims, not a promise of a particular speed increase in every app or network.
Does the Fire TV Stick support Wi-Fi 6E?
The 4K Max announced in September 2023 supports Wi-Fi 6E. The standard Fire TV Stick 4K announced alongside it supports Wi-Fi 6, not Wi-Fi 6E. A Wi-Fi 6E stick benefits from Wi-Fi 6E connectivity only when paired with a compatible router and suitable network conditions; the stick’s specification alone does not guarantee faster internet service.
What can Alexa+ do on Fire TV?
Amazon’s later Alexa+ rollout announcement says compatible Fire TV customers in the United States can use Alexa+ at no additional cost, whether or not they subscribe to Prime. Amazon says the device upgrades automatically; customers do not need to download an app or activate a separate subscription. Eligibility is described as applying to compatible Fire TV customers, so it should not be read as a guarantee that every Fire TV device or customer in every country has Alexa+.

On Fire TV, Alexa+ supports conversational discovery and follow-up questions, including requests to narrow recommendations. Amazon also lists Prime Video handoff between Fire TV devices, Ring camera feeds, lighting and lock controls, weather, recipes, sports scores, and timers among its capabilities.
Amazon reports that customers talk to Alexa+ on Fire TV nearly two times more than they did with original Alexa. It also reports that customers choose Alexa’s top movie recommendation over 40% more often than they did with original Alexa. These are Amazon-reported comparisons; the announcement does not provide the underlying measurement period or methodology.
What changed in Fire TV’s interface in 2026?
In its 2026 Fire TV update, Amazon said a redesigned interface began rolling out in February 2026 and was then available worldwide on current-generation Fire TV Stick devices. The update includes a cleaner layout, faster underlying code, app rearrangement, shortcut controls, and Alexa+ throughout the experience. Amazon says some devices show 20–30% speed gains with the new interface; it does not say that every supported device sees that improvement.

Amazon announced Ambient Experience for the 4K Max as a way to use the television screen when it is not being used for active viewing. Its announced capabilities included calendars, reminders, sticky notes, smart-home controls, audio playback, personal photos, and more than 2,000 free gallery-quality artworks.
Amazon also announced voice-created AI Art as a free U.S. feature planned to roll out by the end of 2023. That was the stated rollout plan at launch; the later 2026 announcement confirms Amazon’s art collection figure but does not establish the present availability or device eligibility of voice-created AI Art specifically.
Where the Fire TV Soundbar fits
Amazon announced a separate Fire TV Soundbar at $119.99 at launch in September 2023. The 24-inch, two-channel soundbar supports DTS Virtual:X, Dolby Audio, and Bluetooth, and Amazon said it was compatible with all Fire TV devices. It is an optional audio product, not a feature required to use either streaming stick.
