The Fire HD 8 with the RAM upgrade is Amazon’s 2024 12th-generation tablet, not a new 2026 model. Its 32GB version has 3GB of RAM and the 64GB version has 4GB. Amazon also announced three software-based AI features for compatible Fire tablets. October 2026 deal reports list the 64GB model at $79.99, but that reported price is not a verified live checkout offer.
What the 2024 Fire HD 8 RAM upgrade means
Amazon described the refreshed Fire HD 8 lineup as having “50% more RAM” than the previous lineup. That is Amazon’s lineup-level comparison, not a claim that every configuration has 50% more RAM than every older model. The actual memory depends on which 12th-generation configuration you choose:
| 2024 Fire HD 8 configuration | RAM | Model ID |
|---|---|---|
| 32GB storage | 3GB | KFRAPWI |
| 64GB storage | 4GB | KFRASWI |
Amazon’s Fire HD 8 product listing is the place to confirm the selected capacity and current offer before buying; the two storage options also have different RAM.

Amazon announced three AI experiences for compatible Fire tablets alongside the 2024 refresh. These are software features, not a separate AI-branded Fire HD 8 model or evidence of a dedicated AI chip.

- Writing Assist: Offers writing revisions through the device keyboard, including help with rewriting, tone, grammar, and spelling.

- Wallpaper Creator: Generates wallpaper images from text descriptions.
Writing Assist has specific requirements in Amazon’s support documentation: Fire OS 8, English (United States) as the keyboard language, and a US user with the tablet registered to an Amazon.com account. Amazon’s announcement refers to “compatible Fire tablets”; it does not establish that all three features have the same regional or language availability, or that they all run on-device.
Fire HD 8 specs and what they mean for everyday use
| Specification | Amazon-stated detail |
|---|---|
| Display | 8-inch, 1280 × 800 IPS |
| Storage | 32GB or 64GB built in |
| Expansion | microSD card support up to 1TB; card sold separately |
| Rear camera | 5MP |
| Battery life | Up to 13 hours, according to Amazon |
The compact HD display suits basic browsing and video viewing, while the microSD slot gives you a way to add local storage if the built-in capacity is not enough. Confirm the compatibility and details for any card before purchasing. The battery figure is Amazon’s stated maximum, not an independent test result; the available evidence does not establish an independently measured battery life or performance benchmark.

Which Fire HD 8 should you choose?
Choose 32GB if keeping the purchase price down matters most
The 32GB configuration has 3GB RAM. It provides less built-in storage and less RAM than the 64GB option; consider whether you plan to keep many apps, downloads, or other files on the tablet.
Choose 64GB if you want more built-in storage and RAM
The 64GB configuration has 4GB RAM. It is also the capacity named in the October 2026 deal report, though the reported discount needs to be checked against the live offer.
