Amazon’s October 2026 refresh covers three Kindle families: the compact Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft. Announced U.S. prices run from $149.99 for the 16GB Kindle to $319.99 for the 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Each family also has variants, and Amazon offers Kids versions, so “three new Kindles” refers to the main families—not just three individual devices.

Which new Kindle should you buy?
Choose the Kindle for compactness and a lower starting price
The 16GB Kindle is the straightforward choice if you want a small, lightweight monochrome reader and do not need waterproofing or a color screen. Amazon lists a 6-inch display and up to six weeks of battery life. The aluminum-back version costs more for 32GB storage and its different finish.
#1 Best Overall
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
Choose Paperwhite for waterproofing and warm light
Paperwhite adds waterproofing and adjustable warm light, and Amazon lists up to 12 weeks of battery life. Those are the clearest reasons to pay above the entry Kindle. The Signature Edition adds 32GB storage, aluminum rear housing, auto-adjusting front light, dock charging, and double-tap page turning.
Choose Colorsoft for color content
Colorsoft is the option to consider if color on the reader matters for illustrated books, comics, graphic novels, or book covers. Its premium is tied to that color display and, at the Signature tier, the listed convenience features. It should not be treated as a tablet replacement, and the display does not make every ebook available in color.

What is different about the redesign?
Amazon says all three families have a flush-front display and redesigned display construction. The company also lists new color options: Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite, and Fig. Which colors apply to which model may vary, so confirm the exact configuration on the product listing.

Kindle Kids options
Amazon says the new Kindle, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft each have a Kids version with a kid-friendly cover and 12 months of Amazon Kids+ included. The announced U.S. Kids range starts at $179.99. The subscription period is introductory; do not assume Kids+ remains included after those 12 months.

Are Amazon’s Kindle growth figures independently verified?
Amazon says Kindle has had “double-digit growth globally for three consecutive years” and that readers turned “more than 720 billion pages” in 2025. These are company statements in its 2026 launch announcement, not independently verified market statistics.
