Amazon announced a new Fire TV Stick 4K on September 30, 2026, alongside a redesigned remote that it says works with Fire TV streaming players launched from 2019 onward. The stick has a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, Wi-Fi 6 and 4K output up to 60 frames per second. Amazon’s speed figures are company claims, not independent benchmark results. The US launch price is US$59.99; Amazon announced A$129 in Australia.
What’s new about the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K?
The main changes are updated hardware and wireless support, Amazon’s Vega OS and new Fire TV experience, and a redesigned remote. Amazon lists these specifications for the stick:
- Processor: quad-core, 1.7 GHz.
- Storage: 8 GB internal storage.
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth Low Energy.
- Video output: 2160p (4K), 1080p and 720p at up to 60 frames per second.
- Listed video formats: HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, H.265, H.264, VP9 and AV1.
- Software: Amazon’s Vega OS, Alexa+ and the new Fire TV experience.
- Power: Amazon’s Australian announcement says the stick can draw power from a TV USB port using the included cable.
These launch specifications do not establish Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos support for this model. TechRadar identifies those as features of the higher-tier Fire TV Stick 4K Max, so buyers who need either format should check the specific model’s listing. TechRadar’s launch report

Amazon claims the stick is 20% to 40% faster than a similarly priced competing 4K streaming stick, and that apps launch 35% faster. The cited comparison does not name the competing stick. TechRadar reports that Amazon’s promotional video illustrates company test data rather than showing a live, side-by-side device comparison. Neither report provides an independent benchmark of the new model, so these percentages should be treated as Amazon’s claims—not a guaranteed improvement for every app, network or household.

Amazon also says Fire TV Home buttons receive more than 100 million presses per day on average across Fire TV devices. That is company-reported context for its decision to make the new Home button easier to identify by touch, not an independently verified usage count. What changed on the redesigned remote?
Amazon has changed the remote’s shape and button feel so users can orient it without looking down. It has an asymmetric profile, a flat top and a curved, weighted bottom. The Home button has a distinct metal surface; other buttons are shaped or indented to feel different from one another.

The remote also has dedicated power, volume and mute controls for compatible equipment, plus a customisable star button. Amazon says the star can be set to launch a favourite app or a setting.
Will the new remote work with an existing Fire TV Stick?
Amazon says the redesigned remote pairs with Fire TV streaming players launched from 2019 onward. That compatibility statement covers eligible Fire TV streaming players; it should not be read as a promise that every Fire TV device or television is supported. Check the compatibility details on the listing for your specific device before buying.

Can you buy the remote on its own?
Yes. Amazon announced a standalone redesigned Fire TV Remote for US$14.99, with US shipping planned for late October 2026. In Australia, Amazon listed it at A$24.95 with a ship date of October 22, 2026. These are announcement prices and dates; current stock may differ. For owners of a compatible Fire TV player who mainly want the tactile controls and customisable star button, the standalone remote may be the relevant upgrade rather than replacing the streaming stick.

What is Fire TV Remote Plus?
Fire TV Remote Plus is a separate planned premium remote, not the remote bundled with the new stick. Amazon says it will have an aluminium case, backlit buttons and Find My Remote, which can make the remote play a sound when prompted through a compatible Alexa device, the Alexa app or the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon announced an early 2027 release window but did not announce a price. Should you buy the new stick or just the remote?
- Consider the Fire TV Stick 4K if you want the new player’s listed hardware, Wi-Fi 6 and 4K output, and its launch price makes sense in your market.
- Consider the standalone remote if your existing Fire TV streaming player launched in 2019 or later and you want the tactile redesign without buying another stick.
- Compare the 4K Max if Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos support matters; the launch coverage identifies those as Max-tier features, not established features of this new base 4K stick.
- Do not choose on speed percentages alone: Amazon’s performance figures have not been independently benchmarked in the cited launch coverage.
